I am assuming no OS , as the cheapest i could source the same parts was $632

      I am assuming no OS

or monitor, or keyboard, or mouse…

As with most custom PCs posted on OB; by the time you chuck in a proper PSU and a decent GPU that will actually run things @ 1920x1080, you've easily gone over that $632 mark.

The motherboard is complete junk too (no SATA III, no USB 3.0, cramped mATX board).

They call this a "basic gaming" PC but really it's barely fit to be in a library. Another unbalanced build that doesn't really serve any purpose well, aside from an E-Machine (which in that case you could easily knock off a few hundred more with a cheaper CPU, GPU and HDD).

      • I'm running an mATX, no SATA III and no USB 3.0 computer with a r9 280x and 30" Yamakasi. I play BF4 on Ultra just fine.

          Good, great to hear.

Now what if I bought this and wanted to hook up a Samsung Pro 840, a front I/O panel with USB 3.0 and had a fairly cramped interior due to multiple HDDs, a CPU cooler, tall RAM spreaders and a long GPU? Complete waste.

I'm not a Neophile who must have current-gen technology right now, heck I have an old rig from 2010 that can still run BF4 on Ultra as well; I'm just saying for this price point ($600-800) there's no sensible reason to skimp on those things. A $62 dollar mobo has all of those things these days. Here's a full-size ATX for $84.

      • Listen to this man. No SATA III and no USB 3.0 is a massive black mark on this deal. May as well live in the year 2000.

        • If you're looking for nostalgia I can offer a high end system from that era sporting PIII 500mhz processor, 256Mb ram, 2 x USB 1.1 and 17in CRT.

Do you guys reckon this is worth it?

Looking at my building my own PC and not sure if that will be cheaper or not haha.

    • +4

Price is good but I'd rather not get a generic PSU

Do you guys reckon this is worth it?

Not if you want to play anything made in the last 3 years with acceptable performance.

At a minimum, the $700 dollar build from Whirlpool's PC Suggestions is what you'd be looking at:

It's good value on the parts, but one or two of these parts are poor choices that you'd have to sell and replace with something else, so not worth it.

If you're at all willing to build, build. It's always better, no matter the budget, for a PC that'll be used for gaming (and other stuff).

Use staticice, au vendors in pcpartpicker, and reddit.com/r/buildapc to choose the right parts and sellers.

    • Build your own.
and dont exspect a complete gameing computer for this cheap without sacrificing
around 75-800 is what you will pay.
i build my tower last week for 517+72 for windows 7 off ebay without the graphics card which ill get in a week when i get paye next lol

this shows everything i bought to build mine.
but i went to MSY which got it little cheaper but i got G-skill ram and asus Graphics card
i got that card as that motherboard doesnt have vga/DVI/HDMI output for screen.

up to you whether you want amd or Intel

btw im buying a R9 270 or 270x still unsure all depends on prices and what i got to spend not getting anything less then R9 270 though.

as for a screen look on gumtree i picked up a 1080p 24" for 50 bucks

AMD owner here: Don't get AMD at the moment unless you'll also be mining. Nvidia is better value for games at current prices (due to mining demand).

    This isn't a gaming PC.

      FB gaming PC

      • It'll suit you if you only play Farm Ville 2, Candy Crush, etc on PC!

        • or FaceBook.

  • What warranty are they offering on the system a whole? Do they build the system and test it for you before sending? If something is not working ok, but you don't know what it (eg blue screen in windows after a few minutes, or crashes during games) will they pay to have it returned to base for a fix (as per their "return to base warranty"). Otherwise it is a pile of parts in a box.

Unless this is clarified I would avoid.

Apparently (according to threads on WP), CPL don't honour warranty.

        CPL don't honour warranty.

They don't exactly have a choice in the matter…

        • Go read the WP threads, a lot of amusement to say the least.
