$100 Cashback on New Commonwealth Bank Credit Cards

300

$100 cashback on all new personal Commonwealth Bank Credit Cards.

This is an excellent deal for current CommBank customers and for students as the Low Fee, Low Fee Gold and Student credit cards are available for no annual fee. For non-CommBank customers the Low Fee card has a $24 annual fee which means you'll still make $76 from this deal.

Low Rate and Award credit cards are also available for this deal but have varying annual fees.

I am not recommending these cards for everyday use, just get it for the deal and continue to use your usual everyday card :-)

  • Spend $1000 per year on the low fee version for no annual fee. +

The fee is waived for the first year, and with no other benefits to this card you probably wouldn't want to keep it after a year:

      1. The annual fee is currently $24, or $0 if you hold a qualifying CommBank account or loan when you apply. We'll waive your annual fee for the first year, then continue to waive your annual fee each subsequent year as long as you spend at least $1,000 in the previous year (on purchases and cash advances only).

Tempting. But better not getting another credit application under my name on mycreditfile

Indeed. In Australia, loan applications consider serviceability on the entire credit limit regardless of the amount you actually have outstanding.

However, if one of these cards can be a Commonwealth Bank Awards American Express® credit card then that can also be used for the bank issued Amex deals… hmmm tempting.

      • The Amex co-branded cards start with an annual fee of $59 (for existing eligible account holders).
Did I earn more than $60 with cash rebates from Amex last year?
Will they do it again this year?

      • What about closing your cc account? Will this remove it from your credit file?

        • When a credit card is cancelled I know that the balance is no longer counted against you.
I am not sure if it is 'removed' from your file though.

Cancelling credit cards before putting in a loan application is one way to improve your serviceability.

  • hope they dont change it to "upon contact only" again

  • So how long would one have to wait to cancel the card?

    • To be eligible for the $100 cash back, you need to apply though this specific page and then activate your card. The $100 cash back will be credited to your account within 90 days of activation

  • Anyone else getting an error after the Netbank step of the application?

  • +1

Hmm i just got $50 cashback. Should I wait for the other half or give a call?

  • So reading through the website couple of things I haven't found, list of "qualifying" bank accounts? I've got an old netbank share trading account not sure if it would be included or not, and what is the minimum income you need to get the low fee gold card with travel insurance & extended warranty?

  • Anyone know how easy/hard it would be to open one of the eligible accounts first (I am not a commbank customer), and then apply for the CC to avoid the fee? Anyone had recent experience with wait times for savings account applications? Know if it can be done on the spot in-branch?

    • opening a streamlined or everyday account will take no longer than 15 mins online.
