The prices seem to fluctuate a lot.
Very tempting… considering I just soaked my epl-2 in water… :/
I am guessing another lens will set you back more than the camera itself, any recommendations for the next lens to buy at a ozbargain price?
I would get a Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 prime lens, can be had for about $300-400. Or Olympus 45mm f/1.8 for about $300. Remember that MFT has "focal length multiplier" of 2, so your 35mm camera equivalent focal lengths for those lenses are 40mm an 90mm. Olympus 17mm f/2.8 is a cheaper prime lens alternative, with faster autofocus than the Panasonic 20mm, but obviously not as wide aperture.
I got the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 and Panasonic Lumix X 45-175mm telephoto. Both very good lenses. I bought them off gumtree though almost new. Paid 1/2 of retail price.
wait for a deal on the Olympus 17mm f/1.8, I picked mine up from DCW when they did a 20%
I would stick to Olympus Micro 4\3 native lenses - you get amazingly fast AF and they are very portable and light. Depends on what kind of shooting you do - one of my favourite lenses is the 45mm f1.8 - can be had for about $400 new. Its pure class and so small and light.
Other lenses to look out for are the other primes, 17mm f1.8, 60mm f2.8 macro, 75mm f1.8.
For an everyday walkaround lens you cant go far wrong with the 14-150mm - ( equivalent 28-300mm ) covers a huge range and its light and portable.Enjoy!

free shipping to Oz - unusually from Amazon US - great price for this lens - even with the current exchange rate.
Perhaps there will be a few Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ Pancake Zoom lenses floating around unwanted as it is a kit lens with the new Olympus OM-D E-M10.
I've got an Olympus E-520 (2010 vintage) will its lenses be compatible with this camera? (I've already got a 14-42mm lens but it would be nice to chuck the 80-300mm equivalent lens.)
You'll need an Four Thirds to Micro Four Thirds adapter, such as Olympus MMF-3. Autofocus will work, but it's performance will be quite sluggish.
It will work. But with some caveats.
1. You have to buy an adapter, either a first party one by panasonic or olympus (such as mmf-1)
2. The af speed is much slower. 4/3 lenses were designed for phase detection af. m4/3 lenses are designed for contrast detection af. Hence the speed is slower.
Assuming you can stomach both of these caveats, it will do exactly what you want.
Alternatively you can buy an em-1 which does on sensor pdaf and the speed will be much the same as it would have been before.Cheers guys.
Can anybody tell me if a lense from a Panasonic Lumix GF1 would be compatible, or what sort of adaptor ring I would need?
Thanks.
Yes, it is fully compatible. Both GF1 and E-PL3 are Micro Four Thirds system cameras.
Same mounts etc?
Fantastic, thanks :)
Yes, exact same mount. That's assuming of course, that the lens you have did actually come with the GF1 and isn't itself using an adapter! There's a good list of MFT lenses, see if you can find it there: http://www.four-thirds.org/en/microft/lense.html
The only caveat, Panasonic does in lens stabilisation, Olympus in body (I believe the newest Panasonic also does in body) This means Olympus lenses won't have any any image stabilisation on a Panasonic body, but Panasonic lenses will on an Olympus.
Very nice price for the camera. Tempted to get it as a partner or my GF3. The tilt screen could be handy at times.
For anyone interested, my local DSE sold it to me that price today. I just mentioned the catalogue that starts tomorrow. I think this is a very good price at $218. Even if you don't like it, you could sell it on for a reasonable price.
Amazing what so little $ buys you these days.
Does this stack with %15 off voucher today?
Because that would bring it to $185.
confirmed just then that it does work!
so yes..$18515% voucher valid tomorrow as well? How do you convince them to stack the deals?
Anyone happen to have a receipt? :)
^^ I can't edit this, but thank you so much to the person who found out that it stacked! Stoked with the camera for $185.30!
I got it as well. Good deal for 185, how do I go about getting a longer range lens. Zoom isn't too great on the stock one.
Hey guys, what's this 15% voucher and how does one get it? Cheers.
Nice find. Great compact camera and at this price I would have bought it if I didn't own one already.
