Just picked one up in store. Disappointed there was no cake across it so will return it tomorrow.

*please note I did not actually purchase, just looking for a cheap laugh

  • Looks very similar to the keyboard I bought my kids off eBay 3 years ago for around $30.

"I bought my kids off eBay 3 years ago for around $30"

oh dear. I think you meant FOR your kids. Too much chuff for you!

      • That'd be a nice easy way to get them, mind you we've considered selling them on eBay.

  • would this be suitable for an adult to learn to play a piano?

    • It depends on how little you want to play, but for most people I would say "no". Full-size keyboards have 88 keys. With 54 keys you will almost certainly find yourself playing the plastic casing sooner rather than later. Also, the keys do not have the sensitivity, weighting or hammer action of a piano.

You might get away with it as an introductory instrument for a very short time, but you would run into its limitations quickly. Hard to say whether it would be a viable first step or whether it would make you hate piano.

I bought a $130 yamaha keyboard a while back on COTD, was fun for a little while until a friend lent us their piano whilst they are away for a year. Im very much a beginner player but going back to the crappy keyboard without weighted keys or touch sensitivity is probably similar to jumping the bones of a real lady vs an inflatable one, (this is the part where I say I did not have relations with that plastic girl.)

Digital keyboards don't start getting even close to a real piano until you start spending close to or above $1000 I reckon.

You could probably learn some basic techniques with the BASE but be careful though as I bought a BASE keyboard once and took it back as it only allowed you to play about 3 or 4 keys at a time if I remember correctly.

      $30 though, a bargain for a kid.

We had one once that went back to the shop as well. It had the same issue. No playing chords as it changed tone when you pressed too many keys.

        • Yeah I seem to remember ours had the same issue come to think of it.

Where are all the pianist puns?

    • I couldn't /key/ them in in time.

  • MIDI interface?

  • So…did this deal strike a chord with any of you guys? At this price, it's beginning to sound like music to my ears :P

  • Thanks OP bought one for my 3 year old.

  • My kids just play on my old - el cheapo- keyboard that I bought from MSY.

  • Wish I still had my pencil case piano. I'd play 1155665 over and over.
