it's $399 for a computer and monitor, what more can you ask for?
good enough for a computer to surf the web and do some documents…

    i don't see a need for negative.

what would you vote if michael jackson's glove or an item from someone famous was on sale for $10? "NEGATIVE - SECOND HAND"?

    geesh….people these days

I think he voted neg because the OP didn't state it is a Refurbished machine before, he updated it just now

"NEGATIVE - DO NOT KNOW WHERE IT'S BEEN"

these are a pretty good computer (its what i use at home) chuck in a 8400gs or galaxy 9600 and they are pretty good and will keep up with most games at moderate settings. (not gonna be a knock your socks of AA, AF type) good for home theater PC.

    pretty average price, though…

190 there though thats without the monitor, you can get cheaper at a swap meet (and flee bay) but as i cant find any on line i wont neg it for now…+165 for a brand new monitor.

check out your local swap meet for better deals though.

  • This isn't worth it.

This dell is $388 for $45 more you can get a brand new system from a real shop (Umart)

    Benefits:
    E1400 is faster then a P4.
much larger hard drive (40gb vs 80gb)
Better quality screen with better contrast and probably more)
    better keyboard and mouse
This system can also be upgraded, dell computers often can't very easily.
Proper warranty with a shop you can physically return to.

    Monitor:OC 917Sw 19inch WLCD 3000:1 5MS $155
    CPU: Intel E1400 $62
    Motherboard: MSI G31M3-L V2 Intel G31 LGA775 mATX $59
    Hard Drive: Seagate 80GB SATA 7200RPM 8mb Cache $48
Case + PSU: Power Case 7502 with 500W PSU $55
    Ram: 2x DDR2 1024MB(Single stick)PC6400 800Mhz $36
    Logitech Internet 250 PS2 Desktop K/B & Mouse Black $18

    Total: $433

You can do even better if you shop around.

    • But assembled and delivered? I think IJK charge $45 for assembly and delivery is at least about $20, so even given those prices it's creeping closer to $500.

For $500 assembled, delivered, the rig you point out is actually a great deal too, but for those on a shoe-string budget or those who only need a basic PC for the kids, $389 would be tempting. I'm not going to vote -ve or +ve though.

      • While you have a point, you have to understand that this is a dell, and its refurbished.

If you are on a low budget, why would you want to get a computer that could easily break soon and then leave you having to buy another computer?

If you buy a proper computer, you get a good warranty, then if something does break, you don't need a new computer, you just need another part a local computer shop can put in.

There is no reason to not get a new computer, most people just don't realise how cheap you can get computers.

Anyone who buys this will most likely regret it when they are buying something else in a years time.

Very reliable computers, great chassis. It's a SATA drive so swap it out for a bigger one and you'll have no problems. For $389 delivered it's going to be one of the better value for money refurb PCs around.

Just a heads up for those consider buying, this particular model is known to have the "Boeing Engine" effect. The CPU fan speed can go way out of control and may damage the motherboard. So when you feel like you're on a plane, no you're not hallucinating:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX7PlUwrO8U

Mine gave this problem, and it has been binned since it's not cost effective to replace the dud mobo, especially for an old system.

    • Well we have heaps of GX280 in the office and don't think any has the issue that you are describing. Maybe this has been rectified in the later build?

      • Perhaps, but the thing is, this happens when the systems get older. Mine happened when my system reached the 5-year mark. I don't know, maybe Dell has looked into this since I got mine, but it's just something some people may want to keep in mind when purchasing this unit. If the CPU fan starts its engine, then don't think it's unique to yours only. :)

  • Can do as well or better at many refurbished PC retailers or auction houses.

  • Seriously, I would try and get someone to build a cheap NEW PC for a couple of reasons.
    1. Chips today, even the really, really cheap ones, blow this out of the water.
    2. New stuff has driver support, so down the line if a Windows/Linux/OpenSolaris update comes down you know it's supported.
