Except… that they've taken away the Free version of LogMeIn - so this app is only useful if you're paying LogMeIn for remote access.

switched to teamviewer after getting told my logmein was no longer free last week. Actually now prefer teamviewer!

  • In the app comments they are talking about a monthly fee?

  • +1

Yes, they recently changed terms and it now costs about $100 a year (but they made the app free).

Works with an account subscription of LogMeIn Pro on your computer.

This is the important part. Logmein is now no longer free so you have to pay a yearly subscription to use it. I guess if you pay a subscription to still use it, they shouldn't be charging extra for a mobile app.

  • Important
You need to create an account at LogMeIn.com, which includes a free 14-day trial of LogMeIn Pro. At the end of your free trial, you’ll need to purchase an account subscription to continue accessing your remote computers. Visit LogMeIn.com to find the subscription package that works best for you.

They screwed over a lot of customers when they forced the subscription service. No deal.

I'm negging because while this looks like a deal on the surface, people need to realise that the reason why the app is going free is because the service itself that you use this app for is no longer free, and is now by paid subscription only.

This is particularly bad if you'd previously paid a LOT of money for the app - at best, the company is considering offering an extended trial period longer than the 14 days to people who've previously purchased the app but even that's not confirmed.

    DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY.

  • Negging as well because they shafted myself and only gave me 7 days notice.

I had previously paid for the app which is now useless

    • I thought if you had previously paid for the app then you'd get 6 months of Pro subscription for free.

      • Bought the app quite some time ago wasn't even aware I got anything free with it

"free house! previously 1 million dollars, now totally free!"

    • to actually be able to live in the house you must pay a subscription fee of 1 million dollars a year for access.

this company sucks. use team viewer.

    • Vice president of strategic product operations Tara Haas said in a blog post that LogMeIn Free "is going away" after being offered for the past decade.

The company is also axing the paid Ignition apps for iOS and Android devices.

The move is expected to impact "a large percentage" of the company's user base. The company did not put a number on how many customers are affected.

LogMeIn wants all affected Free and Ignition users to migrate to a new "single offering" called LogMeIn Pro that effectively charges $50 a device a year, with a small discount for users with up to 10 machines.

The minimum spend is $99 a year, which covers up to two computers, though the first year is presently being offered for $49 to existing users, according to TUAW.

    • I like your house analogy,

The house was for sale for $1m!
Now you can get the keys for free!!! (provided you pay $1000/w rent)

  • I just read about this app yesterday. Here's a summary of what happened to the app.

This is not a deal, just a change in billing structure which equals a MASSIVE increase, not decrease, of price

  • +1

Not a deal due to the fact it's a new system that requires a subscription over the once better 'free'system. Sorry OP

  • Teamviewer is the business, switched from logmein along time ago stay clear of them.

  • Teamviewer is free and it works. Why do we need anything else.

This is like posting "Sony Music Unlimited" app is free. Yes its free but does nothing without a paid sub.

  • I just checked & my LMI 'free' is still up & running (alongside Hamachi) & expires in 2017. So I'm guessing existing free accounts will stay active, but they won't accept ppl registering new 'free' accounts?

So technically this app will work like Ignition (which I have previously been using)? Correct?

edit: I can still add new PCs with a 14day trial of Pro which reverts to free.

When exactly did the removal of 'free' come into effect? It hasn't affected me…

    • People have been getting e-mails with only 7 days notice. Like you, I haven't received anything yet but I really wouldn't count on it staying that way for long - it's probably being done in phases according to account usage stats, potentially to minimise PR damage.

      • OK, thanks for clearing that up. Guess when the time comes I'll have to switch to Teamviewer. Having not used TV before, is it similar if not better than LMI (feature+function wise)?

        • When I switched over I found their system of logins and ID'ing computers a bit harder to understand than LMI, but it's no less intuitive, just different.

  • Been using LogMeIn for years and now I have uninstalled all those LogMeIn clients on my many relatives' comp. Time to switch to TeanViewer.

  • If you manage lots of computers it looks like you can pay an annual subscription to Logmein Central & then still have access to Logmein Free for current & future computers.
