Thanks! Just confirming.. according to what I am reading we only get 1x 20kg luggage for a place like Japan?

    • Yup

    • +2

If you book through an agent you can get 30kg.

      • Thanks for the TIP!

        • Also another tip is to use the multi city function as you can have a stop over in hong kong or even land at haneda instead of narita for roughly the same price.

      • I just asked my travel agent, and I was told this doesn't exist…do you have more info on this?

  • hi storerep, looking at one of the return flights to Xian, is it possible to extend the stopover in Hong Kong to a few days?

  • Good deal but not as good as the last one which was the lowest I have seen.

I've been to HK for Holidays with the family for the last two years running (just an FYI!), and flew with Cathay.
It would be preferable for someone like me if the OP/REP would include what dates are at what cost etc. since the deal's bargain claim is it's 'from' price.
I liken this to the 'up to' 40% off hotel deals etc. you never find your dates anywhere near the 40% sometimes you won't find any dates at 40% off…

    • Hey mate I'm actually looking to visit HK with the family around november this year… Do you have any tips on hotel hunting around there?

So far the best deals I've found (20% off) is only slightly cheaper than what the hotels advertise (about $50 HKD off tops)

      • Hi, I've put a few of my tips/opinions in the forums (travel), have aloof, but we were quite happy with the Metropark causeway bay for our recent stay, about a 4 star hotel IMO, we dealt with them directly and got a good deal, included harbour views and access to lounge bar (no kids allowed unfortunately) for snacks.\, got my parents to take the kids to the rooftop heated pool (amazing views), previous year we stayed in Harbour Grand Kowloon, again amazing views to HK skyline this time, but pool not heated and closed at 8pm (too early I think). To go to Disney consider staying 2 nights at the cheaper Hollywwod hotel (disney), the Disneyland Hotel (somewhat next door), much pricier (if on a budget).

        • Thanks mate,

Do you have any recommendations around the Kowloon area? So far I've only found the Dorsett around my price range (I'm staying there for 15 nights so even just $30/night makes a HUGE difference!)

        • Have you looked at YWCA, I was very tempted by them, however when I travelled last october, they weredoing some renovations, but they have ver good feedback from people, and are quite price competitive. Our dollar getting weaker won't help you, we felt it from 2012 to 2013. However you'll be pleasantly surprised by food and transport prices. Event he attractions like NnongPIng360 are very reasonable.

        • Unfortunately my parents are older asians… afraid of everything and so refuse to stay in a hostel (they're convinced hostels are death traps in the event of any accident/fire)

          Any hotels perhaps?

        • +1

YWCA (The Salisbury) is not a hostel. It is a 3.5 - 4 star hotel.

Has some good reviews on Trip Advisor
          http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g294217-d305913-R…

        • Oh I stand corrected! It looks nice too!

Unfortunately I can't book this far in advanced so I can't see what the price will be like….

From what I gathered it looks like around $200 a night? I wonder how much for their 3 people bedrooms

          EDIT:

          It's about $200AUD+ per bedroom or $350AUD for a 3 person bedroom…

As nice as it is that's way out of my price range (the dorsett is ~$120/room)

Qantas has a sale on as well, but the dates are a bit better & cheaper.

    • Agreed. I checked same dates on Qantas and Cathay. Qantas slightly better in price with better luggage allowance too.

      BNE-HKG return. June.

  • damnit it's 400 less than what i paid a few weeks ago

  • CX is exceptional. Admittedly I've only flown Business with them, but their service far exceeds anything else I've tried. Love them.

    • Cattle class is pretty standard, the things we saw last year on our way back from HK to Tullamarine well…

  • BNE is EXCLUDED!!!!

    • BNE isn't excluded but it's limited SEVERELY by dates.

      • Why is that? How do u find out about BNE?

  • i had a very bad experience with their service before and simply pushed me away from solving the problem PLUS their seats unable to recline for overnight flight, that's terrible. Just wondering if anyone know if all their plane like that or just i were the lucky one?

    • i've booked a flight from syd to hk and cost me $100 more compare with qantas and virgin, as i heard their five star service and i've decided to spend that extra for their service. On the same day, i have arranged the connecting flight from hk to china with other airline (this is package from travel agent).

It was an early plane around 7am and the plane was delay due to bad weather at hk, the customer serviceS were very helpful and help us to rearrange the connecting flight. Their representative CONFIRMED TWICE that they have rebooked the connecting flight for us and NO EXTRA COST and i can stay back and relax. I went home and take a rest until 5pm the same day and finally got on plane to hk. While i reached hk and tried to check-in with air china, their reps said it was not booked. I ran to cx's customer service desk and spoke to their reps saying they have no idea about this and they unable to contact staff at syd airport to confirm anything (man, cx's headquater at hk and they cant do anything at all and simply pushed me away).

My wife felt upset and i just spent $2000 hk dollar to rebook the flight from hk to china.

If the staff at syd airport has told me that i need to contact my travel agent or air china's reps to rearrange my time for no extra cost due to bad weather, this is what the air china's staff told me, i would have done during 7am to 5pm but not simply stay back and relax.

guys, I am not sure if i were the lucky one but when you go with them, pls do not trust everything and note down their name (hope this may help), PLUS buy your own travel insurance!!!!

man, i would have chosen qantas or virgin if i knew this going to happen and save that $100 for my reconnecting flight.

      • Why would CX change your connecting flight with another airline? Got nothing to do with them!

        • I thought that was part of their "5*" service after they announced flight delay due to bad weather. I was impressed that time as all the affected customers were queuing at their counter and staffs are helping to rearrange connecting flight. Point is they said they have successfully rebook/rescheduled my connecting flight and printed out the itinery and said all done. I even double confirm with her if all good and do I have to do anything and she said all done. Otherwise 10hours time I can even travel to city to meet my travel agent to rearrange my connecting flight. If they can't help with connecting flight just simply let me know so i can sort out myself to avoid unnecessary money to pay.

Air china even said if I call them after they announce the delay, they would have rescheduled it without cost….anyway just to let ozbargainers know these may happen and beware.

          Thanks..

  • I keep searching through the dates, but can't seem to find flights below $880… What period is the $760 flights exactly? Or are they already sold out?

  • Damn it, June school holiday, Melb-HK-Melb, direct, overnight flight both ways: $1740

    • That's how I feel when we travel, in the september school holidays (victoria).

  • Hi All,

I tried to book a trip to HK from Sydney from 17th to 24th Feb and it didnt offer the discount fare. Can anyone help with this one? Is it expiry already? Its only the 3th of feb. Any help would be appreciated.
