    Groupon + no insurance….

    This should be interesting.

  • EDIT: Looking at the site perhaps this offer isn't even for the Two Men and a Truck company.

Possibly a bargain in the context of usual prices - but my experiences with TMAAT have been nothing but nightmarish - smashed glass tabletops, final prices double those quoted initially, moving teams who are intentioanlly slow and surprisingly weak (usually when I pay for a removalist I don't expect to have to carry my own shelves out because they literally aren't strong enough to lift them).

    • +4

Sounds more like TWTSGAN - Two weaklings, truck, smashed glass and nightmares. TWTSGAN rolls off the tongue well too!

BTW, did you pay the initial quote amount? What happened with the damaged items and fact that you had to carry items? Never asked for a removalist cus I don't trust anyone with my things other than me.

Ps. I hate unrealistic pictures as shown in the link to the deal. Why are people so happy and hugging when they have a crap load of boxes to unpack still…

      • +1

That's probably why the $371 RRP, that's the true cost with the smashed stuff. In this deal the smashed stuff is paid for separately. :)

      • The initial quote was verbal and they did not honour it. We (stupidly) didn't pay insurance so we had to procure the replacement tabletop ourselves (even though the manner of its breaking was due to one of the removalists leaning it on a truck door and proceeding to forget it and open the door) - luckily fantastic furniture are happy to write stock off so gave us a table top for free. I gave them a big and very satisfying serve after I'd paid them for a day's "work" and I have never used them again and I hope I have dissuaded others from considering them too.

  • i think you should look at hiring two labourers if these people's normal rates are $322+$49 for two hours of work. this offer is just a carrot on a stick

Love reading the true local reviews … 2.6 / 5 … nicely rounded up to 3 on the groupon website ;)

I would definitely go with a fixed price quote and pay the extra to know exactly what you are getting.

    • +1

hey! i'm surprised that true local has anything less than 5 star reviews on it in the first place!

      • Which probably after you filter the 5* reviews gives you a true indication of what you are paying for… Call me skeptical :p

  • There is no way there cannot be a massive catch to this. Two people and a truck to show up for $50 isn't going to happen let alone them carrying your stuff.

    • Of course, they charge $370 an hour for the extra 5-10 hours it takes. Terms = no 2 hour jobs.

"There can't be a catch to this."
      Ha, classic.

  • Title should state 'Sydney Metro'

"Do not use this company!!!! We booked for Saturday and were told between 11 and 12. When we called at 12 after no one arrived we were told they could no longer fit us in but would arrive at 730am on Monday as there was no possibility they could do Sunday. After taking Monday off work we received a text message at 8am saying they were not coming. Stay away!!!!!"

    LOL

To me even advertising through Groupon says shonky stay away.

    • +1

yeah this is a stitch up not a bargain

$49 for 2 people, and a truck??? this fits under the category

    TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

  • +2

yeah, nah, wouldn't touch this deal with a long ladder. They have used ALL the coupon sites for advertising.

    Looks very very dodgy!

    From their terms and conditions:
9.4 In additional (sic) travel time is charged from base to base on outward and return journeys, at the stated hourly rate

So if they get stuck in traffic, your hand is stuck in your wallet!

    • so what your saying is if their base is 45mins away they need to pickup and deliver your items in 30 minutes or its going to cost you a lot of money?

  • +1

And, judging by the thumbnail, they will seduce your girlfriend too!

    • After packing her in a box.

  • Stay away!

  • I made the mistake of purchasing this deal last time around. I just wanted to give my recent and firsthand account that I would not recommend it to others.

I was moving from Wollongong and apparently it takes 2 hours to travel from their hub to me…on a Saturday. I was told over the phone that the discounted rate was $130/ph including GST. They charged $130/ph + GST. At one point I was made to feel guilty for not helping (I'm pretty sure I was paying someone else to do it so that I wouldn't have to), so I helped. Once there was enough stuff moved into my new place that I could start putting things in their place, rebuilding the bed, etc. I got to work on that. At that point, once I stopped helping carry things, it would be 20 minutes before they'd bring the next two boxes up. In total I think they took 2 lunch breaks and 4 smoke breaks in the 6.5 hours of moving time.

If I'm being fair, the price was good. Another moving company quoted $2500 for the move, compared to ~$900 for these guys. But to be honest, I would never do it again. If I knew I was going to end up moving the stuff myself anyways, I could have just asked friends to help out and save a ton of money. But I was trying to save them (and me) from the misery of moving. Purchase at your own peril.
