    1. make sure you click on the right one as the URL link is generic ;)
  • really tempting, but i bet it will go lower after 2 months.

    • +3

sure it will, like all pc stuff. You will never pull the trigger since it will always be going lower.

    • Not always true. There have been shortage of material happening time to time again, which resulted in price rise in the past e.g. hard drives.

      @alwayseric

      Dunno Aussie dollar keeps dropping…

  • $460USD plus post for the 960gb..

I'm still waiting, but I know I'll be going for a 1tb SSD in the future..

    • +1

      Enjoy the long wait

        Huh?

        They exist..

  • With HDD stalling at 2TB for the past few years, I am pretty sure pretty soon everyone will buy SSDs.

    • +2

4TB HDDs have been out for some time now.

      • +2

Not for laptops. Most 2TB HDD is too thick for laptops already.

        • Yup, and the price hasn't been going down as fast as SSDs over the past few years.

  • Thanks OP !

Note: MSY has the Samsung 840 EVO 500GB @ $375

    • Yeah, but that's evo…. Evos die quicker than normal drives.

      • +1

Oops, gave this dumb post a +1 instead of hitting reply. Midnight posting. :|

Anyway, anyone using an EVO will have replaced it long before the flash starts to degrade.

        • That's what I thought about my 2x32gb raided ssd's… (using them as system disks…) Until one died… there really isn't much need to replace a system disk if you have additional storage drives to go with it.. You can revoke your vote by clicking votes just under my post…. But looks like someone already negated it for you….

Man I can't believe people don't know that (mlc?) The tech used in these drivers isn't as durable than other ssd's but is cheaper to produce….

      • got any proof?

      • you must've read that somewhere, how about a link to prove your point then?

  • No AU warranty though?

    Can someone confirm?

    Cheers

    • +2

Amazon warranty, any fault or damage they'll take care of it.

      • Thanks for that.

Now, I have to wonder about the capacity & given how it's best for the life of the SSD to limit writes, what is the point of a drive larger than, say, 256GB? With 256GB, you have your OS, programs, the updates that follow the OS, (basically read-only items) + a few items that you take on, temporarily, prior to shifting them off to an ext. HDD…

        Opinion?

        Ta!

        • my 'old' 240gb corsair ssd is currently struggling keeping up free space, this is mainly due to gigantic iTunes library in my program files folder and couple of games like D3, SC2 which take around 20gb each.

I suppose you can put these apps on larger standard hdd, but I prefer to put apps on my SSD.

I'm upgrading to 480gb SSD which is ideal as I was using 500GB standard 7200rpm hdd prior to using the 240gb ssd.

        • Why use an ssd for mp3s? I can't see a need for the iops or speed unless your streaming to hundreds of clients… Even then, cache…

Ssds are awesome for apps not so for movies and music just due to the current price of ssds.

        • the itunes lib isn't for mp3s but for hundreds of iOS apps, which then not running on windows, so they're just static files. any idea how to move these iTunes lib to another drive?
