  • Price matching is not a deal.

Adjusted. Nothing stopping people from trying a price beat at OW though. :D

      • +1

        Yep.

      • +2

I just Price matched with OW in North Sydney , came to $449.10 -
Great machine Runs a lot quicker than I thought.

        • Just what I wanted to hear! Thank you!

        • If I'm not mistaken OW only price beat by 5%, how do you get 10%? Coz I'm going to get one as well.

        • To be honest i'm not sure how(I though it was 5% as well) , but that's what the receipt says.
          This might explain why https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/129218

        • it's automatically takes 10% off at register as the item is listed as a valid school item, although your store location may be a factor

I noticed that Digital Star online have this item listed at A$499 with free shipping.

    Is that a bargain?

    • Yes.

  • +3

Seems like a pretty average price.

    • Average is about A$549.

      • +1

It might be a good idea to mention that in the description or title.

  • +3

Actually $528 at Harvery Norman. So good price including shipping.

    • +2

the price is better than hn's, but still not that good imho.

  • -2

Sounds okay price, but I'm a little bit puzzled by this machine:

    • very little memory
    • very little storage
    • very low res display
    • pretty slow cpu

Is it actually a useful device?

    • +4

      Yes.

    • +4

Its actually not a slow CPU.
People often associate Intel Atom = Slow.

Actually the new 3rd Gen CPUs are pretty good. It is around twice the speed of the 2nd gen and saves more battery.

This device is more aimed towards office workers or students. e.g. use MS Office / Surf Internet / Check Emails / Play Angry Birds etc.

You can argue there is Android Tablets which does similar with higher res screens and what not. But this one supports the full version of Windows which means the possiblities are endless.

      • Just Picked mine up a day a ago . great battery life but terrible charging rate. 10% per hour.

    • Saw one review where they hooked up a 1080 monitor to it…. was think if this would work over wireless HDMI to a tv or something… but say you hook up a second screen, how would you work your touchscreen finger onto the monitor/tv??

      • +1

        you can use a mouse/keyboard

Could also be used for Powerpoint, videos, etc

        • I dont want to use a keyboard/mouse, is it possible to control a 2nd screen via the touchscreen?

        • +1

I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad 2 that I project to my 50" Plasma through Mini-HDMI that I am able to use the touchscreen on the tablet for.

          TL;DR Possible

        • Champion. Thanks bro

    • 2GB sounds low but this thing flies even with multiple programs open, swiping from the left switches apps smoothly, thanks to Windows 8.1 and it's low memory usage, i had about 6 apps running recently and all except the active one had zero cpu usage and memory is like 2MB!
as for storage, you can put in a 64GB SDXC microsd card which i bought, brings storage upto 128GB, if you want more storage Asus give you free 1000GB Web storage

lcd is standard 1366x768 but since it's 10" display it's sharper than say the same res on a 13.3"/15.6" display

and slow cpu? this is more than 2X the speed of last gen(Z2760) and has 3x the graphics speed, this thing gives lower end cpus like the Celeron and even Core i3 a run for the money! it's very good performance for the power consumption, here are some benchmarks http://blog.laptopmag.com/intel-bay-trail-tablets-benchmarks

  • Still waiting for the delivery of mine from Myers @ $449.
That price was a few days ago. Why is this considered such a bargain?

    • It's currently $599 at Myers.

    • +2

If you use that sorta logic then 50% of the stuff posted on Ozbargain shouldn't be posted. lol. Because there is always a previous time which it may have been slightly cheaper.

The correct logic is "Is there cheaper price which is CURRENTLY available?" if not then it is a bargain.

      • +1

Fair enough. It's just that the wound is still fresh and it seems that the price is changing for some reason. I would think that further opportunities for cheaper prices will present themselves soon enough.

  • Does this have outlook?

    • no, just windows mail

    • +1

Sadly it doesn't come with Outlook, since the package "Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013." doesn't have it.
However if you have a installation and a key from another PC, you can easily install it via USB and activate it.

Since this is using full Windows 8, not its unpopular reletive Windows 8 RT.

  • Wow the weight is 1 kilo. I will just wait for another sale on Surface tablet.

  • No deal this was $404 a few days ago. Would feel better paying extra over other ozbargainers for the same thing. I don't need one anyway.

  • so is it 10% off the digitalstar.com.au price or is it match and then beat by 10% of the difference?

    very tempted at $449.10
