  • Great deal for the mini wifi modem imo

  • So any telco sim can be used because its not locked to optus?

    • Unlocked sure, reason- it Ticks 'UMTS 2100/900MHz,' BUT omits 850 .. Standard optus trickery.

-2014-looks to be a neat year for sublimely convenient hand·set 4G. Move on from the Dongles and their wireless-linked cousins & leave them in the dustbin of putridity.

    • Short answer, No.

Only really usable with Sims from Optus resellers.

Also be aware that their coverage away from Hwy 1 (and the mainland) is pretty bad these days.

  • 4G or only 3G?

    • 3G. and its not locked to optus or any other network.

      • every one else in at U850 .. or, another 80%+ of transmitters.

Review of this modem, including a broadband speed test.

  • how about this one compare with ZTE MF60?

    • Definitely MF60 is better. Better network compatible. And more detailed LCD display. E5331 has no display screen. It can only show you connect condition by led.

  • .+ 2for1 movie offer

You can also get a $2 telsta sim @ 7 eleven and get $10 Telstra Movies

  • Do not work with Telstra next G network. And do not work with Vodafone 850 network. It means if you use Telstra and its dealer's sim, you can only connect to the very slow 2G network. SO even it's unlocked, this modem is still an Optus+ modem. But anyway, it's still a good price for an Optus wifi modem.

  • I'm using the modem with a Telstra sim and am picking up the Telstra 3G HSPA+ network.

    • If you E5331 modem has Optus logo. You cannot connect to Telstra 3G. If you check the display besides the signal symbol on dashboard, it will show you EDGE telstra. You connected to Telstra Edge (also called 2.5G), but not Next G(3G Tesltra) network.

      • how weird. are you able to post a screendump when you use your e5331 modem with a telstra sim?

  • @Laura_85 That's interesting thanks :)

just looked online on found this

    E5331 Feature Overview

    **** HSPA+/UMTS/900/850/1900/2100MHz

    http://www.cyberconnect.co.za/Huawei-E5331-Wifi-Modem

*yes the webpage is from S.Africa but would they disable 850 just for Australia ?

    • Almost all Telstra and Optus modems are specially made even they are the same model. There are detailed model number on the modem. Something like Huawei E353u-2 is Optus, Huawei E353T u-6 is Telstra). Optus e5331 is E5331s-2.

Optus branded is 900/2100MHz only. Telstra 850/1900/2100MHz. So Optus modem work 2G(Edge) only with Telstra sim. And Telstra modem works 3G with Optus sim in most area(under 2100MHz network coverage)and works 2G with Optus sim in some rural area(900MHz network cover only)

      • I stand corrected, but would that not also mean that using this Optus unlocked Huawei E5331? modem with 900/2100MHZ would also work on the 2100MHZ 3G band used for telstra in city and some regional areas. I know that you would miss out on the 850MHZ towers, but for some people in certain areas this does not matter.

        • +1

that's correct. I'm using Telstra's 3G signal on the 2100mhz band which works fine for me.
