    Had me until "Locked".

  • Noob question. Does that mean if I want to take it overseas and use it with a local overseas sim, it won't work ?

    • +2

Yes. You have to unlock the phone first.

I doubt it, once its locked to a network will only work with that network.

Can anyone confirm. I want it for overseas only also.

      • to the knobs that neged me, im right.

It will only work with the network its locked to. In OTHER words WONT worked any where els

    • +1

It won't work on any other network apart from Optus. You need to get it unlocked. Worth contacting bagman to see if this phone can be unlocked cheaply.

      • To the knobs that negged me, neg yourself for being losties. Im RIGHT :)

    • not only you can't use in overseas
you can't even use it in Australia if you are not with Optus or not on their network

Spare? Screw that. This thing is better than my main phone atm.

    • +1

If you weren't joking, what phone are you using now?

      • Nokia 2690. Only "2.5G" (Edge), with 640x480 camera. This thing is far better. Too bad it's locked.

        • You browse ozbargain on that thing??

        • Er, no? I use my PC.

  • Since VirginMobile is on the Optus network, would this mobile work with a VirginMobile sim?

    • I would also like to know.

This phone is no slouch stats-wise for something of this age (2010) and price bracket and it gets incredibly favourable reviews.

    • +2

Yes it works with a virginmobile SIM. The wife often swaps between same optus locked phone and her main phone when we go fishing.

      • Thank you for clearing that up.

    • It should work. I've used LiveConnected on a Optus Prepaid phone before and worked fine.

  • Has anybody managed to get one ….keeps searching for pick up store for the last 20 minutes….lololol

    • Can't find any round Sydney city or Canberra :(

  • There are a few Optus resellers, so maybe locked isn't so bad.

  • Just for any one using TPG mobile this will work with them too since they use the optus network

    • not necessarily; it could be "subnet locked"; I bought an optus locked phone once that didn't work with TPG without unlocking first.

BUT this seems great value as a spare phone, I may just pick one up as a spare handset

  • target have the nokia ash 300 for $15 too but its locked to telstra and has no wifi.

    • Hi akasell, is it in the catalogue for this week? Do you have any photo/receipt that we can use for pricematch?

  • Appears to be only at Brighton store (in Melb anyway), and delivery (a great deal at $2 door to door) is not available

edit also Mornington & Shepparton (all too far me to bother)

  • In Summary, cost to unlock the phone from Optus network:
If you've had the phone for less than 6 months, to unlock your Pre-Paid handset a fee of $80.00 applies.

If you've had the phone for mort than 6 months, a fee of $25 applies to unlock your device.

A link to where I got the info from:

  • Have anyone managed to buy this phone online from Good Guys? It seems that it's not available for delivery nor for pick up.
