Sorry I don't have any specs

Are you sure it was Target? That looks like a Kmart sign.

    • Could be hahah ^^

if its anything like the identical looking one i have, then its rubbish.
refrigeration capability is equivalent to putting your can of drink on a small ice cube.
at best, you will get a can with a cool bottom, and a slightly below room temp liquid inside.

    would not recommend

Would it make any difference if the USB port supported 1A or 2A?

      • +4

A USB 3.0 port can supply 900ma @ 5v, that's not going to cool anything. Will need many times that amount of power to even bring the can down a few degrees.

These don't work very well. Or at all. The peltier itself will be cold, but it doesn't do anything to the can or at least cool it significantly — I definitely couldn't see the point in drawing extra power from my computer just to cool the can when a fridge is just in the next room…

Maybe it can be overclocked somehow.

  • +1

this is not a 'fridge' by any stretch of the imagination, it's a cooler and that's being generous, also if you did have a higher powered unit there isn't enough contact area to cool a can because most cans are concave on the bottom so only the rim of can makes contact with the cooler block, if you buy/make a flat bottomed aluminum cup it would cool down somewhat better

My PC heats up my room pretty bad. This will add to the heat.

  • A usb fan or a little desktop fan will cool down a can much quicker.
But yes, this is very cheap price.

This product is not worth even if free.

    • That would only work if the can was above room temperature. Then once it reached room temp it would stay there.
Still, almost equally as effective as this junk would be.

  • Definitely was at Kmart and is Aus wide as they are this price in WA. It won't cool down a warm can drink but more keep a can drink for cooler for a bit longer than room temperature would.

Got one of these as a Christmas present from a very frugal individual. I timed how long it took to "chill" my Kirks. I gave up after the 11th hour.

As an owner of one of these, it's basically a computer fan attached to a metal plate surrounded by a box of plastic. Would not buy.

    • It actually should have a TEC under that

      • I think that's what was meant by 'metal plate'.

I have one.. they are shite, but they look pretty cool!

My Sis visiting me from overseas bought this for $1 from K-Mart Hornsby, I was reluctant but thought $1 was allright for the novelty. $5 is too much for this.

  • +1

I had one but took it back after finding it next to useless

  • +1

My 100w TEC freezes drops of water almost instantly, a usb powered one would have less cooling capacity than an ice cube.

Better off using it as a palm cooler or something.

I went to a Kmart close to me and they had these for 50 cents.I still didn't buy this piece of crap for that price lol.

  • Damn, i bought one for $10. lol.
