By regular you mean website down?

  • +1

Hope their site stays up. No wonder they are going broke.

  • Im thinking about buying small appliances like microwave, iron machine and vaccum… Do you reckon Myer's Sale is the best option? Im pretty "new" in Australia xd

    • +1

They are not a bad option. On sale myer price is close to the cheaper online retail everyday price except of course you get to touch/see and take it home then and there.

    • +7

Also check The Good Guys, Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, David Jones and Appliancesonline.com.au (maybe Godfreys for the vaccum). I'd say Myer, HN and David Jones will typically be on the expensive side, but sometimes the prices there will be decent. Depending on what you are after even Big W, Target and KMart might be ok for some small appliances. Browsing the online catalogues will give you a good idea.

Ultimatly you'll just need to shop around if you want the best price on a particular item (which you can do online). If thats too much effort and you just want to get the items right away I'd start with Good Guys. They will stock all those items you are looking for and should be able to price match most other prices anyway.

    • +3

When comparing, it's worth checking http://www.myshopping.com.au and http://staticice.com.au
It usually has fairly up-to-date pricing from many major stores. Gives you an idea of whether you are getting a bargain or not.

    • +3

      Vacuum @ godfreys
Iron @ the good guys or target
      microwave @ wherever you want.

The reality is that unless it is on a specific sale, TGG is likely the cheapest.

Myer is good for 2 reasons: frequent sales, but also, they have good prices on clearance items (usually % off already discounted). When not on sale their RRP is usually high.

Harvey Norman is good on sale items and they have a broad range, but again, not the cheapest RRP.

Also, if you don't mind going second hand you can get lots of great condition second hand microwaves etc off gumtree.com.au
Just be slightly hesitant with big ticket electronics ie fridges/ washers to see them work first.

      Welcome to Australia :)

Bought our vacuum cleaner from Amazon Germany.. still far cheaper than local stores, even with the enormous freight charge.

Are we supposed to play "spot the differences between last weekend's sale, and this one"?

    • +6

more like 'spot the difference between normal price and weekend sale'

      • +2

I'd like to play "spot the difference between a computer browsing the Myer website and one that is turned off"

        • +8

…the computer turned OFF is actually saving you money by not consuming electricity…

  • -5

Why did I read "Myer Normal Price 1 day only 11 January 2014"?

    • +1

Not sure. Pity Myer cannot offer you anything on prescription glasses though.

  • Will this apply to goods that are already on sale or only on full priced items?

    • +1

      Full priced item only obviously.
Otherwise will say further reduced etc.

      • +2

OK thanks … was hoping to get a killer price for a TV. With the 20% it brings it inline with JB HiFi or Good Guys, so nothing spectacular

        • I was thinking about getting a TV too. Now, the flyer says:

20% of TVs and Blu-ray players and recorders

          not

20% of FULL PRICED TVs and Blu-ray players and recorders..

There are some TV's on special… a further 20% off would make those TV prices extra special…

Then again, the current special prices could disappear just for tomorrow..

        • +3

I already phoned up a Myer store and they said the 20% applies only to the full price and not on any TV Sale items … the non-sale price is inflated so its really nothing special at all

        • thanks…good to know.

        • +2

As usual, shop around. An example, the LG BP125 blu-ray player is on sale at Myer for $89 (usual price is $109). $89 less 20% is $71.20 and atm the Good Guys listed it for $67 on their website.
          http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/LG_Electronics_Blu-R…
Walk into a Good Guys store and you'll find that the displayed price for the item will be a few bucks less than $67.

Once i was in Myer looking at TVs when they had 20% off and the salesperson offered me a further discount on top of the 20%. I wasnt really interested so didnt pay much attention. But may be worth giving it a look if you want a certain TV.

        • $1159 with 20% off
fair price for an incredible looking TV.
Samsung 55" (139cm) 3D Full HD LED LCD TV UA55F6400
          http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=UA55F6400&spos=…

        • I have discovered there are no more RRP for TV's, I checked samsung but no RRP like they had.
So what is the RRP in Myer??

          Myer ua55f8000 $2799 On Sale.
          http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/samsung-55-%28139cm%29-3…

Out of TGG, JB & Harvey Norman, HN has lower price $2687.

I am not sure what happens with the old TV's once the new models come out.
I bought 42 LG tv a few years back in Feb, I got best price from Bing Lee $1010, I even had chat record and also confirmation from bing lee, I went to JB and asked for a lower price as run out model and I was told by the staff Great Price go buy from Bing Lee.
Probably on the store, they may get credit from some suppliers and sell Aus run out models in other countries?

        • Is it possible that due to it being a superseded model that JB just couldn't get enough stock for you? Just out of curiosity, why did you need 42 television sets?

  • 10% off Weber could be handy for a Masters pricebeat.

    • Thanks for pointing out Weber, I need some accessories :)

20% of sunglasses - does that include sunglasses hut instore myer ?

  • +5

Myer….bringing uninspiring to dizzy new heights.

    • Hey, whenever I've seen these sales it usually does.

  • "15% off floor and garment care" - would this likely include Dyson?

    • It does include Dyson. Which model are you after? May be cheaper to wait for the next "$15 off every $75 spent" sale if not an urgent purchase.

      • I got that on Boxing day, was a good deal.

  • Usual Myer sale that they have ever month

  • same waste of time every month, boring!

  • any vacuum cleaners in discount?

    • 15% off floor and garment care

  • The toy sale with 50% off 2nd toy would be good if they actually had any stock of what you want… Frustrating.

  • +1

45% off beds/mattresses with free delivery sounds nice.
Are any of them actually good value though?

  • Do myer take rainchecks?

    • Does anywhere do that anymore?

      • Your right! Don't even know why I asked…

        • Yes got one from woolworths the other day. With Myer and DJs you can pay and order. Once stock comes in they give you a call.

        • I rang and asked because it was out of stock online and got told straight out no but She was nice enough to find stock in one of their stores for me. Not like the person I got last time wouldn't do it.

        • She was nice enough to find stock in one of their stores for me.

They should be doing this at a minimum, their inventory POS system allows multiple stores to be searched - it's called good customer service.

Out of curiosity, what product were you after?

        • Lego Technic Crane 42009 was what I wanted. I didn't know they could do that, I thought they did but wasn't sure so didn't argue. Last time I even said I guess I'll have to ring all the stores then and ask and she agreed…

        • Can someone enlighten me.. (serious question) what is a "POS system"? I keep reading that in my head as Piece Of Shit System.

Which is probably is, too, in some cases.

        • Wait - is it Point Of Sale? God I'm thick.

        • +1

No, no… You had it right the first time…. ;-)

  • yesterday at lunch time i checked the online prices for some TVs, and they were not on sale (no little red sale sign) and only had one price tag.
today when i look they all have a red sale sign.
seems like the prices of them stayed the same or have a new price tag that says Was $—— Now$——
    very dodgy.

    • +1

Can't blame them for trying. I always shop around before buying a tv or anything else with a value like a tv with 4 or 5 different places, a lot less chance of getting caught that way,

  • Managed to get a massage chair: http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/homedics-shiatsu-max-mas…

    Very busy.

There are some good sales on at the moment.
