Edifiers aren't no name are they? I have two of their speakers and they are great! I have the S550 in the living room and Predator for my computer.
Sorry, new to me. Looks like they are big enough that you can find reviews. A chinese brand, but they are a real company.

Anyway, if you already have good speakers, better to add the dongle than buy cheap speakers just because they have bluetooth.
your $5 ebay bluetooth receiver is going to make it sound terrible too though. Heck, a belkin ("brand name") bluetooth receiver I got sounds like the music is echoing down a water pipe.
That sounds like you are using the headset profile instead of A2DP. You sure it is stereo coming out?
I think it's just shit. All it is is a dongle with power in and aux 3.5mm out. Phone thinks it's connected as "media". No idea how to check what actual profile it's using.
If the sound is mono (no channel separation) you are using voice profile.
More likely you just got a dud.
Checking my email, mine cost $12 a few years ago and sounds fine.
If you are really fussy, you won't be using bluetooth, or $50 speaker/amps, anyway :-)
for budget speaker Edifier is heaps better than Logitech.
Personally, most Logitech speakers I played sound like shit. They have been around since 1996. Bought a 2.1 system with magnetically shielded fronts 4 years ago and still using them for gaming.
Since when has Edifier been a no name?.
havn't seen these before, can you give me an example of one with rca/hdmi/optical connections?
Non-Bluetooth version is $39 @ MSY this weekend if you're concerned about audio quality.

Anyone know if APTX or A2DP?
TIA
No speakers at this price level have apt-x codec support. A number of dongles for under $50 (use your own speakers) have it, but no speakers under $100 that I'm aware of.
As an alternative to these no-name speakers,
you could just get a stereo bluetooth receiver for $5 off ebay, and use your existing speakers, or known decent ones, and USB power source.
