Found this deal by accident when on Skyscanner. This is the cheapest I've seen flights from Sydney to Los Angeles.

Departing Feb 14th and returning Feb 22nd I got 2 x adults and 2 x children for $3,613. Seems pretty cheap!

For travel outbound 1 Feb - 31 Mar and return 1 Feb - 28 Apr 2014.

  They had this exact deal only a few weeks ago. Some OK prices but much better to pay a bit more and go with Qantas as they fly direct IMO. You end up losing an extra half a day with these indirect flights, so you have to put this issue into consideration…cheaper for a reason!

    It is hardly half a day! I went to LA with Air NZ last year and it was no more than 3 hours more in travel time. For our family of 6 this small additional time was worth us saving in excess of $1500 over the next available fare. Also Air NZ do offer the skycouch between AKL and LAX which is nice

      I'll give you my scenario (looking at going to LA in March):

      Melb-LA (Qantas) 7/3/14-14/3/14
      - 14 hours up DIRECT, 15 hours back DIRECT
      - $3,175 for 2 people

      Melb-LA (Air NZ) same dates
      - 17.45 hours up via Auckland, 18 hours back via Auckland
      - $2,825 x 2 people

      So for an extra $175 each I save nearly 7 hours and fly direct and get to fly on the awesome A380…no brainer for me but for some people prices will work out better on different dates I guess?

      Skycouch is a massive rip-off by the way! Don't see many good reviews on this.

    I booked mine with the "899" deal and got a price of 1082.
    Checking with this deal for the same dates it was 1192

  If you're thinking of going Air En Zed from Brisbane watch the connections. While the outbound is a tolerable 17 hours, some itineraries on the return trip are based on three flights and take 23+ hours, there's nothing less than 18 hours. Think of this inconvenience in saving a few hundred dollars. Or perhaps you like sitting in Auckland airport.
