    Well spotted.
Gonna stock up on afew forjanuary.
I bet they artificially raise prices 20 or so cents for thefirstfew weeks of jan so best value to use em may be end of jan during weekly low.

      Funny you say that! Twitter:

      RAA ‏@RAAofSA

Coles & #Woolies are trying to spike Adelaide’s ULP price +20cpl again to a +5yr high, so fill up elsewhere. Pls RT #SAFuel

      • +3

Having said that, I drove past a Coles Express earlier here in SA at Norwood and it was 146.9 which is basically the same as elsewhere, so they haven't done it yet here anyway at most locations.

I just saw online that one Coles Express location at thebarton is 164.9 though.

        • I went on a late night maccas run and saw the the woolies/caltex petrol station down at Mawson Lakes full of cars waiting to fill up… at 11pm! Unleaded was at 142 w/o discount. If my tank wasn't already full, I'd probably give in as well..

A caller on 3aw this morning saw petrol at $1.64. Thanks Coles for your 'generous' discount…

  • lol!

Anyway, so you don't have to use these vouches before tommmorow do you? , Just aquire them.?

    • Yeah just acquire them today or tomorrow, they just posted the terms which are the usual ones:

"Fuel discount receipt valid at Coles Express for four weeks from date of issue."

  • It should be interesting watching the Coolies servos in the next couple of weeks deciding whether to target customers with still valid vouchers or anybody.

    Combine with:
    - itunes 20% off
    - pay with combination of ING direct ($99) and cash for the last couple of dollars….
Sweet! Personally I'm stocking up on 5kgs of Vittoria coffee beans…

    • Do itunes gift cards definitely count towards the $100 for fuel offers? If so, i'll grab a few.

    • +2

stocking up on 5kgs of Vittoria coffee beans…

the ones from Queensland are better, more favourable climate.

      • +1

        Don't you mean Quennsland?

        • +1

          no.

  • +1

Does buying gift cards qualify for the fuel discount?

    • From the terms and conditions:
"Qualifying amount must be spent in one transaction and excludes coles.com.au service and delivery charges and purchases of Coles Group gift cards, tobacco and tobacco related purchases. "

      :(

      • maybe non-coles group gift cards qualify?

        • +3

yeah they do I purchased 2 x $50 Bunnings cards and got the 25c fuel discount

  • +1

wow. they're going all out before the >4cpl discounts get killed

  • +2

I figured coles would start something in the last few days of the fuel voucher promotions to match the Woolworths general offer and to give Flybuys customers something for the last few days as the targeted fuel offers ended on Sunday 29 December.

I'm not going to rush out and spend $100 though as I stocked up last Friday at Coles for a 20 cent voucher and topped up today at WW to get triple points(targeted offers). I've actually got enough 20 cent fuel vouchers to get me through to the end of January so don't need anymore.

I saw a stand alone Caltex today in Melbourne at 164.9 but the Coles Express was still at 147.9 base price across the road. I filled up anyway as I'm guessing the price will have gone up by Jan 3 when my fuel voucher expires. I figured in the long run I was saving money by using the high value docket at the low point (if you can call 147.9 low).

  • +8

Most of Sydney has risen 20c per litre over the last 48hrs…just a coincidence I'm sure.

    • +4

Don't worry. I'm sure it will drop 20 c/L again in February when the dockets are all invalid.

      Oh look, a flying pig.

    • I think it's part of the normal whacked up cycle they are on now. Coles/Woolies have been offering some very generous discounts the last month or two, both exclusively via FlyBuys offers or to everyone. I recently got a 30c/L off voucher, kindly filled up my tank plus another 100L in jerry cans, cheers Coles!

Although one thing is you need to keep track of the prices in your area, Coles have a habit of setting a wide range of prices within the same area. Eg. last week Wollongong 150c/L but down in Albion Park Rail (only 20 odd minutes away) prices were 139.9c/L and the only reason I can see for that area being cheaper is there are more independent servos down that way that wont just peg their prices to whatever Coles charge…

    • It's always like that. Every coles petrol is always 3-4c higher than other servos. And so on according to the docket discounts.

      • +1

Not EVERY Coles. Its different depending on location

  • +3

Bastards have raised ULP to 164.9 in Melbourne

    • -1

Isn't the U redundant since it's all U now? I suppose you mean the basic E10.

I used to joke that ULP! is the sound you make when you see the price. Seems apt for this situation.

      • +1

        Isn't the U redundant since it's all U now?

um, that's not the case in WA at least. thankfully we haven't had the mandatory defile-all-ULP-with-ethanol-crap yet. although you can buy E10 at certain independent servos, it's not as widespread yet

PULP is what your money turns into ;)

        • Isn't leaded petrol banned in Australia? You still have it over there?

        • -1

They're a bit behind over in the west…

        • -1

I can't edit my post now but I realized I left off the rest of your sentence about the E10 bit. That would have been less confusing.

          @jv

They're a bit behind over in the west…

oh we are, in pretty much every aspect of life except for the glorious Fuelwatch. how i love thee

        • +1

          Well E10 is still U, it's U with 10% E. :)

        • Some cars beg to differ ;)

        • +1

Meh, you just want to say something about E. I have no opinion on that. I'm just pointing out that it's all U now, no L. Or maybe should I write Pb.

        • +1

While we're on the topic of fuels, i don't see the harm in mentioning that i find it quite obnoxious they've forced people whose older cars can't run on ethanol blends onto a more expensive fuel.

As for the naming conventions, i suppose people just get comfortable with using the term they've always used. Renaming stuff could get confusing. I mean, there are some out there who still put the wrong fuel in their cars ;)

        • +1

Yeah, I bet a lot of people still say they will tape the TV show.

      • +2

NSW motorists still have choice to buy regular unleaded as the proposed law changes were scrapped.

        http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-01-31/bowser-backflip3a-nsw-…

It's not hard to find in Sydney.

      • If the U was redundant it would be LP making it leaded petrol?

  • +2

LOL, I thought Coles and Woollies agreed with the ACCC that they would stop offering supermarket driven fuel discounts above the 4c per litre? It comes into effect January 1 2014, so this will be the last time!

    http://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/coles-and-woolworths-un…

  • +3

Good riddance to the +4c offers. Always matched with a corresponding hike in fuel prices.

    • +1

      depends on where you are.

also consider that during this part of the year, they also have a thing for raising the prices. i doubt prices will improve once these >4cpl discounts go away

      • +1

A look at your Perth price curve, a very regular sawtooth and well defined good and bad days to buy tells me that you have little competition over there.

        • looking at the search results, you'll find that there are quite a few indies matching or coming very close to the cheapest outlets at the top. not to mention many indies participate in IGA's 4c/$25 spend fuel offer so depending on where you live, they may actually come out cheaper

        • i try to always buy Petrol on Tuesday or Wednesday here in Perth.
          always the cheapest day.
          thankyou Fuelwatch.

    • +2

Terminal Gate Price went up 1c today. Coles Express went up 20c. Tell me that's not related to their 25c offer launched today.

      • +2

Similar thing happened with the 17c offer earlier this month. Shell servos went up, while the indies stayed the same. The servos were expecting people to come in with vouchers and didn't want to lose money.

      • +2

It doesn't really add up - since you have 30 days to use it. I doubt its going to be 20c more expensive for 30 days…

        • +1

Yes, but I suspect most people use it within a few days and the servos don't want to lose money even if it means losing non-voucher customers.

        • +4

Or if they don't use it within the first few days, many people will forget about it or misplace it.

        • These the same people who are so disorganized they forget to pay their bills? :p

        • +1

And CC companies rake in the interest and penalties.

You on a US-centric Swype or something writing disorganized?

        • iPod touch. I've given up trying to teach it proper English

    • +1

You are free to stockpile the vouchers and use them at the bottom of the fuel discount cycle. 28 days is a long time and it likely to cover several discounting cycles. Also, these vouchers work for LPG too where there is no discount cycle and all fuel stations in my city are within 3c/L of one another.

      • +1

Same with Diesel, it has no 'price cycle'

Much like Newcastle, it stays the same price constantly, never really changes (around 1.60P/L for E10)

  • +2

Coles and Woolies should have offered 50cent off vouchers

    • +1

They should have offered a free postage stamp with every litre of petrol :)

      • +2

might not be enough if aus post gets its way to hike up postage to 70c for a regular letter

  • -2

Fuel prices don't fluctuate with discount vouchers.
    http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/petrol-diesel-and-lpg/recen…
There are greater powers from above.
Maybe a supermarket servo will spike prices a day or two earlier than the rest but who cares?

    • +1

No but what happens is that co-branded servos will adjust their bowser prices for voucher bearing customers unless there is significant local competition from indies. After all Coolies goal is really to entice you into their stores. That might be ok if you were shopping there anyway. I hardly ever reach their threshold so I patronise non-Coolies supermarkets for most of my groceries.

    • +1

lol i'll tell you "who cares"…the ACCC for one. while the price rises aren't as huge in some places compared to others, it's a huge stretch to say prices doesn't rise to coincide with those huge vouchers. it's rarely a win-win situation for the consumer

      • In the areas I drive around in, Woolies/Coles branded servos have comparable prices to BP / 7-11 / etc. with the exception of a wide difference appearing in the day or two before petrol prices spike for the week. Within a day or two, everyone's prices have risen.

  • When does the new 4 cents legislation come in?

    • Wednesday IIRC

  • For those interested in buying the Telstra $180/ 12g plan this would be a good time. Not a huge saving but it's better than nothing. I was provided with a targeted offer last week for 35c purchased a 365/ 12g recharge and ended up saving about $30 on fuel (my fuel tank is 70l). So effectively paid $150 for the voucher, also don't forget your fly buys!

I needed another one for the misses so I figured id grab one more as hers plan expires In a week and at least save a few bucks with this 25c voucher (probably 15-20 bucks)
Been hanging out for the 20% discount but haven't had luck finding any offers.

    Anyways just a heads up!

  • +2

..we here can easily figure out these key players inflate the price - however ACCC can't. Seems like we all should get top job at ACCC. I do feel that ACCC must get a huge commission to get their mouth shut as long as they keep ripping us off….

  • +1

Why do you want to get the ACCC to do the dirty work for you..?
Stick it up the supermarket servos and just use BP petrol… you get much better fuel too!
All this coupon crap became too much of a joke a long time ago… you have the choice to play it or dump it.

    • ehh BP and i just don't get a long for some reason. at three different BP's around my area, the pumps are slow as hell. there's never any paper towels, water cans or bins next to the bowser (minor thing i suppose but would it kill them to provide this stuff?). and not all BP servos have PULP. i'm looking at YOU, BP just down the road from me -_-

also tried BP ultimate once….and as grumpy cat would say, i wasn't impressed. i get better mileage from vortex 98.

  • It always drops within a week, wait a week and should drop 10-25c. By the time it hits Tuesday is the best day to fill.

  • +1

I always fill up at 7-eleven as they sell MOBIL fuel. Worked for Gilbarco long time ago and well aware that MOBIL fuel is high quality fuel…just thought to share. Love to get my slurpee as well…though!

    • I have a CX-9 and for me the Shell fuel always seem to last much longer than any other…

      • I'm surprised with a CX-9 you even bother checking. The difference between fuels must be 50L/100km vs 51L/100km

    • Except its only Caltex fuel now, like every other Mobil/ 7/11 station in the country.

  • Lol, just filled up today with no voucher.

  • +2

Now that Coles has this 8c/off for $30 spend or more, last month or so the local Shell has always been priced 5-6c higher than the other local servos. Was a big Coles shopper until then, now shifted to Aldi. Should have made the change a long time ago..

  • +1

The day before the 20c off for Woolworth came out, the local caltex jumped up 20c to 164.9
It's a joke and ill be happy when they are gone.

  • seems like all the 7-E have also increased their fuel price…….

    • 7-11 were the first in my area to go 164.9, ALL the others held back for 2 full days before they copied

  • +3

Just picked up 5 x $100 jb hifi vouchers for 5 25c vouchers. Tomorrow Coles Express is the cheapest in my whole area. Whoop

  • +1

    Goodbye big fuel discounts!

    • Hooray!

Given the lack of competition, I doubt the evil giants will have a fair price without more ACCC intervention but at least these crappy discount games will end.
