Although the front page of Scoot suggests otherwise, it's only $149 (no baggage, POLI as payment method) to fly one way to Singapore (undefined periods). It's been on and off at this price unadvertised, so I just thought I'd let people know to check every once in a while (NOTE THAT I CAN NOW SEE THESE PRICES ADVERTISED AS A BOXING DAY SPECIAL ON THEIR WEBSITE, MAYBE I MISSED IT…WHO KNOWS? :)).

You'd arrive in the evening in Singapore so would in most circumstances need to stay overnight if connecting somewhere (safer anyway, unless you're willing to risk it). Hopefully Scoot won't ground a plane overnight completely else you're screwed in catching the next day's flight anyway (just hope there's a cheap enough flight over the next few days to your destination).

If travelling to elsewhere in South-East Asia I would combine this with a return flight with AirAsia via Kuala Lumpur to Sydney for ~$125 (no baggage + CC fees, it might/probably will be cheaper to pay in MYR, depending on your bank charges, as AirAsia adds a 5% conversion rate).

Note that I've done this before and it's my standard method for getting to SE Asia for under $500. You can use Tiger ex-Singapore and AirAsia to return to Kuala Lumpur. More suited to people with a freelancer, bum, backpacker or student lifestyle. You'll have to get used to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur :)

Based on flight time I guess this is better value than a $99 flight from Perth, but last year I only paid $99 SYD->SIN.

    Awesome info. Thx

    • No worries. I'll probably see you on board :)

  • i just bought tickets from sydney to hk one way for 199 + 17(card fee)
    Wasnt really promoted anywhere

    • thats the normal price from scoot.

      • that is not normal…

    • That's great. I've updated above.

I can see the "boxing day special" above on their website. Their Facebook account must be strictly tailored to Singaporeans (based on currency as well).

I'm so happy in Australia they have to show taxes and charges. Go through the past deals for Singaporeans and a lot of the deals ended up being only slightly cheaper than usual.

  • Yeah i have booked 3 return flights from gold coast to Cebu Philippines via kl and Singapore for $1100 in jan ,feb and march about $367 each trip ,good value if you have the time and patience waiting between flights.

    • That's great too.

I'm guessing $149 GC to SIN with Scoot, $121 KL to GC with Air Asia and $35 Cebu to KL (Air Asia). How did you manage to get to Cebu so cheap? Cebu Pacific or Tiger Airways?

  • Actually scoot had a special on a while back i got 3 return trips from sing to gold for $175 return. One trip coming home i got cebu to kl for $18 kl to sing for $18 and $87.50 sing to gold with scoot. A long way around but i have been going just about every month.

    • :) I do the same things. When you don't have a physical workplace you have to get back to (to get paid) you can make the most out of it and add destinations to your journey for the heck of it.

These days I avoid intentionally sleeping in airports to save money though. And there are surpringly a lot of countries I couldn't be bothered re-visiting as a detour (I'd rather be dissappointed by a new destination :)).

  • Thanks op. $176 with luggage. Not bad. Is there any promo code I can use for this?

If returning from BKK to syd, what would u recommend for cheapest option?

    Btw, what's poli?

    • +1

Nice. So you managed to score the $0 tickets SIN to BKK with airport charges?

I'm not aware of any current promo codes unfortunately.

I believe your cheapest option would be two separate flights from Air Asia (BKK to KL, KL to SYD). This would cost you around the same as before (~$55 + $120 respectively), depending on the day. By the way, if you'll be in Thailand for a while you should consider (if you haven't already) other departure points (AirAsia does a lot of places in Thailand, so you might avoid doubling-up on city visits for a few dollars more).

POLI is a payment method mostly popular with Australia-departing airline companies so that they can circumvent Australian consumer laws :) They elect different charges for different payment methods to pretend they're passing on a charge from the bank, and POLI is normally the free option (despite most likely costing the company more than either credit card or Paypal transactions) [my cynical take on it]. It's pretty much a guided bank transfer that is supported by most major Australian banks but unfortunately not Citibank :(. You select your bank, login and the bank transfer details are already filled in for you. I'm not sure if you're afforded the same protections as VISA and Mastercard transactions, yet it's worth it for smaller transactions with reputable companies.

You'll notice that Tiger Airways and Scoot (aka Singapore Airlines) gladly maintain the traditionally evil pricing structure when Australia isn't a departure or returning point, with hidden taxes and airport charges not advertised.

      • Thx for the detailed reply.

Actually $176 is just the syd to sg part. I am splitting my journey as I'll be staying at sg for couple weeks before going to BKK. Just saw the $0 tickets from sg to BKK you mentioned unfortunately not on the days I want. Smtoi bad I guess.

Cheers for the tip on air Asia and poli. Will look into them. Normally like to use same airlines for return journey but I think I might try air asia this time going back. If there is time at the kl stopover I may step out to look around. Haven't been visited there in ages.
