I have been trying to buy them in WA for last 2 weeks!

only brownbox had them for $850 + free delivery

    so http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/lg-50ph6700-50-inch-127cm-full…

    its bargain IMHO.

I still cant get this WA, or can I ?

  • only one pair of 3d glasses? wonder how much would it cost for a pair of the 3d glasses?

    thanks

Fairly typical inclusion for an active 3D TV these days. Heaps of other smart TV features on this panel over the standard inclusion of doing 3D. Link to LG site - http://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-50PH6700

Plasma is a lot heavier on the power consumption than the LED-LCD's, worth considering despite the awesome price.

    • +5

Didn't take long for the plasma v led power comment come up … surely we don't need to debate this again. The actual ratings figures on LG plasmas aren't as bad as a few years ago and I wouldn't describe them as 'a lot heavier', imo in real world viewing the actual difference isn't that great for this LG 50".

      • I'm surprised 'LCD' wasn't mentioned in the first comment.

Let compare Apples & Microsofts while we are at it, and Fords & Holdens.

    • Define 'a lot'?

Everything I've read suggests the same size Plasma only costs the average user $30 a year more than the LED. Small price to pay for a superior panel / technology and lower purchase price.

This LG plasma will cost -
$0.34 to run for 10 hours a day.
      http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…
      Based on 24.9c/kWh.

      • Bargain, buy me a TV!

  • does this have the same screen as the 6500? i don't need 3D so not sure if the PN6500 at sub 700 is a better buy

  • as far as I know PH6700 comes with those smart remote

According to this thread, one guy bought it for $550 from Bing Lee early this year?

Also, this TV doesn't seem to support DLNA.

To me that thread sounds like he got a run out deal on the old 2012 model. Comment was posted in May 2013 and states it was purchased a 'few months ago', and the deal was for a 50" LG and $75 gift card for $626.

    • o

  • does this do plex???

  • Out of stock.

  • Back in stock - just ordered

  • still in stock. but this one has no plex I am sure. Medialink has been removed from all LG 2013 TVs as far as I know

Anyone know how the PQ compared with Panny ST60?

    • Ya same, would like to know how they compare overall against the crazy popular ST50 and ST60 TV's.

  • Not a big fan of LG but how do they fair in the TV market? Samsung Better?

  • +2

I bought this exact TV from Bing Lee on December 29th last year for $697. Its a great TV but the 3D glasses are expensive (351 model)

    • So price went up after a year?

      • nah ur dollar just went down :P

  • Panasonic plasmas are I think a better Unit,

    ST60 series and VT60 series

    • the panasonic definitely looks better in the shops. better color saturation and depth. reviews say the depth of black is quite poor on this panel, worse than LEDs even. but colour is very good

  • Has the LG Smart TV spying issue resolved now?

Appliance Online will price match. Worth a try fro people in WA/NT?

  • Cheers OP, great price and an easy replacement for my old plasma until I go for a big mumma TV in a few years. :)

The Samsung (and of course Panasonic) Plasma's have better picture quality than the LG's though. When I compared them side by Side My preference was Sammy > Pana > LG. I like the Sammy because of the extra colour pop, if you strictly want the most realistic then the Panna. The LG is just lacking all round in colour and contrast compared to the others.

Considering you can get the Sammy 51" for $847 delivered at bigbrownbox IMO thats a better deal, and you are getting an extra 1" size plus better colour and contrast and a better stand.

In saying that, the LG still stomps on all of the LCD's available under 1.5k, or at any price if you just like the plasma image better than LCD, which I do.

    • i had a look at the 51 inch sammy in the shops and i was struck by how dim and washed out it looked compared to the pana and lg even. unfortunately i couldn't get the remote so it may have been a settings issue. the st60 looked great, deep blacks and vibrant colours. the LG was okay, not great but at half the price it's good value

dse had the 51 samsung for 717 a few days ago which was a great deal

Oh sorry, forgot to importantly mention! my comparison was after I had fiddled with the picture settings of all three! With their Stock image my preference goes Pana > LG > Sammy. But who just leaves the picture at the cruddy stock settings! After fiddling a bit the picture was WAY better on all three. Especially the Sammy which has the best adjustment settings, at stock it uses a power saving mode which cripples the brightness to 30%, once you up the brightness and change the colour option from standard more lively settings it has unrivaled colour pop. At stock they all use some form of power saving though, which compromises their picture. The pana has the best contrast and colour accuracy, but lacks colour vibrancy/pop. The LG just isn't capable of the colour or contrast of the other two.

My separate rankings AFTER fiddling with each of their display settings goes:

Contrast: Pana > Sammy > LG (The pana is a bit better than the Sammy but for a purist its plenty enough to go the Pana, the gap between Sammy and LG is larger in terms of black accuracy, largely due to the excellent software the samsung has, stock the LG has better contrast though)

Colour vibrancy/pop : Sammy > Pana > LG (I'm a sucker for colour pop, with the contrast of these plasmas added to colour pop, it gives the Sammy the most 3D look to the picture, but they all are capable of good colour)

Colour accuracy: Pana > Sammy > LG (pana wins in this, just pure accurate colours for the purist, some would think its boring looking though and would much prefer the pop of the Sammy, the LG just has bad colours imo, not realistic yet not vibrant, just boring and ugly off colours :S

Brightness: Sammy > LG > Pana (yup believe it or not, the pana is the least bright with all at max brightness.( I prefer all their images at max brightness also)

Plasma slow motion Judder: Sammy > Pana > LG (It is present on all of them, the Sammy is only slightly better than the other two, but either way, in slow moving scenes you will shake your fist at the judder on all)

        I wrote too much :/

        • Good summary, but I think a confirmation of models or at least their features is needed, as Samsung only make the one 51" model now, which is base 1080p panel without 3D or smarts. When you did your compare was it against like models, ie the base 50" LG 1080p plasma? And were these then compared to the ST60A? If so then the ST60A should have the best PQ being it is top of the line in features and spec, and it's a Pana.

Quality of inputs/source and connection type will also have an affect on PQ.

In terms of my LG experience, a friend has an older 1024x768 50" plasma (2-3 years old, and yes, this was the time when LG and Pana changed the HD res for a 50" plasma from 1366x768 to 1024x768), Halo game play and graphics on Xbox 360 through HDMI is surprisingly high quality imo.

It seems PQ is still highly important, but the extra smart features of this LG might get punters over the line in comparison to the basic 1080p Samsung for around the same price.

  • $121 shipping to WA

    How is dealing with Binglee?

  • Binglee has been excluding WA lately. Before they had shipping to WA without surcharge.

  • Can this model do Netflix?

  • Got myself to the store last night to check the PQ. The screen is damn reflecting. Its like looking at a mirror. The ambient light in the store did help either. I couldnt get the guy to put FTA on the set but BD looked fine. Think I will pass this one
