I don't really think there's a situation where this would be good value. Here's what Exetel, TPG and Spintel offer.

$39.99 a month = Exetel ADSL2+, 100GB, 1mbps shaped, line rental included, free installation this month, Optus.
$49.99 a month = Exetel ADSL2+, 500GB, 1mbps shaped, line rental included, free installation this month, Optus.

Add $10 a month to exetel plans for unlimited local national and mobile calls.

$59.99 a month = TPG ADSL2+, unlimited, line rental included, TPG.

And if you make a lot of calls:
$39.95 a month = Spintel ADSL2+, 20GB, 64kbps shaped, line rental included, all national and local calls included, Optus.

$69.95 a month = Spintel ADSL2+, unlimited, line rental included, unlimited local national and mobile calls, Optus.

$79.99 a month = TPG ADSL2+, unlimited, line rental included, unlimited local national and mobile calls, TPG.

And if you're looking for a more premium unlimited service (less chance of lags and congestion), then that'd be Jiva which is iinet but cheaper.

$79 a month = Jiva ADSL2+, unlimited, line rental included, unlimited local and national calls, Chime/Agile.

$49 setup fee as well for the economy plan.

  • Mynetfone's ADSL2 plans are not bargains, even with 50% bonus data. You can easily get better prices elsewhere.

Their NBN plans used to be quite interesting and they had novel features like data blocks. However, now they're just an average NBN retailer.

Where MNF shine is their VOIP plans, particularly if you choose one of their "whirlpool promotional" plans. These aren't visible through their website, unless you know the special URL to access them. Details here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2120526#r…

    • even that is pretty bad compared to Siptalk. and a number of other voip providers.

9c per minute, charged per second to mobiles.
      10c per national call
iLBC codec (low bandwidth but high quality!)

Mynetfone is 15c per minute (charged per sec)to mobiles, which is way too much, you can get cheaper PAYG rates on a mobile phone plan.

      • Mynetfone's Neosaver plan gives you 100 national calls included in the $4.95/month fee, and a DID included too. That works out to less than 5c per national call if you make 100 calls per month. My family makes about 70 calls per month, so the effective cost for me is a smidgin over 7 cents per national call.

On the same plan, mobiles are 12 cents per minute, with per-second billing.

I agree Siptalk are a little cheaper for mobiles, at 9 cents per minute. There are cheaper options than Siptalk too, see the Betamax Group, a heap of affiliated companies that charge varying rates to different countries:
        http://backsla.sh/betamax

For example, from the list, FreeVoipDeal.com charge one (Euro) cent per minute - about 1.5 cents in Australian currency.

However, chasing cheaper prices often leads to companies with SIP servers in another country, and horrible audio delay in the VOIP calls.

What is the IP address of Siptalk's SIP server? Is it in Australia? Is their uptime/reliability good?
