  • Is this Melbourne only or nation wide?

    • +2

Was in both Melbourne and Sydney papers. Did not check other papers but I'd assume nation wide. May be those in ACT, NT, Qld, WA, SA & Tas can update us.

gold salted caramels - gotta give them a try!

These are what the prices should be any way if we weren't paying the Woolworths Tax.

    • beg to differ. I am an avid fans of tim tam and the special price was always $2 since 9 years ago. If Woolies/Coles does not compete hard enough and push manufacturer hard enough, arnotts will already double the price of tim tam by now (7% increase per year or so)

I just went to NZ and there is not enough big player to keep the manufacturer price down and what you get is crazy high prices even for local items like milk and bread. Aussie should go to local supermarket when they are overseas and realize how good the price of daily stuff in Australia really is.

How many countries have you sampled? I holiday overseas up to 9 months a year (eating a lot of supermarket food) & dread the expensive food prices in Oz.

Woolies is a big player in NZ, under another name.

Agree that Coles & Woolies do bargain down prices, but sometimes to the detriment of the producers.

Aussies buy based mainly on price. If the manufacturer of Tim Tams raised the price too high…

Small store prices tend to be high in most countries, especially here.

In Japan (considered expensive by most) I could buy tasty $2 noodle salads with an egg & meat or a prepared whole crab for under $5. Food in small supers is usually far cheaper than Australia, occasionally even for meat. Sometimes Aussie foods are cheaper than here! (But Tim Tams are about $4.10.)

[Small, basic hotel single room in Osaka last month, plus all meals, cost under $200/wk! I was eating a lot of sushi & salmon.
Most meals were bought at the "Super" or even a 7/11 & prepared in hotel's guest kitchen.
Doubt could get a price like that in Oz.]

        • hey bruceforaustralia, can I PM you or you may wish to share which hotel in Osaka is that, please.

        • Way off topic…
Very basic business hotel Toyo nothing flash, but cheap at $17 a night or less for 10 or more nights. Never thought I would stay in a place that cheap, but it was far better than expected. (But don't expect that much.)

Japanese style with Futon, TV, small 3+ tatami mat room. Friendly English speaking staff. 10-20 minutes walk to 3 train lines including from Kansai International & subway. Many business hotels in area, cheap eats & supermarkets.

Had a great time. I left my mark - check the common room walls ;-)

I've only seen Tim Tam's cheaper ONCE at $1.50 a packet

    • +2

The 330gm packs were $1.99 at IGA a couple months ago, 60c/100g. 81c/100g in this deal is still good though.

      • +3

Still have Cole's rainchecks (good for 12 months) for 330g $1.94 from last month. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121774

Rainchecks make it possible to have cheap Tim Tams all year:-)

        • +1

          GENIUS!!!

        • +1

I've always been given rainchecks valid for a month. How come you have it valid for 12 months?

        • My Brissie Woolies does not stock 250g MMoccona so no raincheck :-(

But got Coles 12 month rainchecks for 6kg salmon & 2kg smoked salmon :-)

  • Moccona not available in S.A

  • What a perfect combo, coffee and tim tams.

Bite the ends off the Tim tams and suck up your coffee through the Tim tam

      • +5

Opposing corners makes it easier, taking off the whole end just complicates matters.

      • +1

I have taught the fine art of Tim Tam Slam (sucking) in Japan. When there is the realisation the biscuit is no longer solid & must be quickly swallowed - it brings a lot of laughs. But many (older) Japanese like a more bitter chocolate & may pull faces to show their disapproval.

A favourite question I ask is "What is the weirdest thing you've sucked through a Tim Tam?". Port was one unusual response.

For a Japanese video from a few days back (with opinion on the corners/ whole end debate) https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=5WGmU…

  • best biscuits made on earth (or best aussie product??) anyway i am bias towards tim tam
