A HD-Tuner does not supply it's own guide. You have to get it from somewhere. Now you can get limited guide information directly from the stations now, but a full e-guide like that supplied by IceTV is yet to be made available from any or all current 'freeview' stations.
yeah, just $70 a month is alot for a glorified tv guide.
looking at the site it seems to me it's $70 a year (after discount), not a month.
Not that bad…I mean my mother buys the Sunday news paper purely to get the TV guide so this would be roughly the same cost over a year for her.
For vista media centre (& other programs) -> www.epgstream.net
Full guide for free, works very well and simple to set up. Limited to manual guide data download as well as 7 days data.
For a small donation you get a license which allows autodownload of the guide data, and greater than 7 days guide data.
Have had a licensed copy on Vista Media Centre (x64) and works very well.
Now just waiting for the Windows 7 availability, as the EIT (provided by the stations) data is handy but not as complete as the epgstream (oztivo) data.
Not a bad deal - I signed up for a 12 month subscription a little a while ago when they had a special on for $50 though.
I couldnt live without IceTV now - I have a Topfield PVR and its so handy setting shows to record while im at work or even from my mobile
I think the consensus is that IceTV data is of higher quality than EPGstream. I use shepherd personally. It is sometime since I used EPGstream, and I've never used IceTV. It's worth doing a little research before signing up. In the end, $5 a month isn't too bad though.
Don't forget remote scheduling on your iPhone :)
I use their web-based TV guide on my HTC Touch Dual (http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/webpimp.cgi?op=list_shows_mo…), it's come in handy a couple of times. But when it comes to TV and subscription services, I'd rather not pay… (Personally) There are better things that I could do with my time, and money. But still, doesn't take away from the fact that if you have a disposable income, that IceTV is a great service!
i just read what ice tv is, you know you can do the exact same thing for free using an HD-TV tuner on your computer, windows media centre, and an internet connection? but i spose what ever floats your boat.
If anyone is interested i use a AverMedia AverTV hybrid NanoExpress DVB-T (HC82)
