720

Have been after this box set for an xmas gift and found this deal in-store today. Was $89.95 down to $67.20 with the current 20% off deal. Looked at importing from OzGameShop, Fishpond, The Hut or similar prior to finding this and all were over $90.

I went to Carousel branch and cant find one. Bought gift card just enough to purchase this online because I used my ING 5% cashback. hehe.

      Thats the Ozbargain spirit!

    • Nearly time to sign up for a new ING card!

      • i think they have cracked down on this..

        • Can't hurt to try…

      • I got the call already, they wanted to consolidate all my online IDs.
but i am still receiving the 5% cashback. :D:D

        • That's because you didn't tidy up after yourself. I've got the one account. As it hits 6 months I'll close it, then open a new account (they're still offering the 5% cashback for 6 months for new customers).

        • I couldnt. I have my superannuation with them. :(

  • Good price.

Amazon UK currently selling for $80.98AU delivered.

Top deal, just don't forget that they are laden with terrible CGI.

    • No option to watch the original, untainted release?

      • Nope. Unless you have a VHS player.

        • +1

          Or the 2004 DVD release.

        • +3

          Three words: Harmy Despecialised Editions

        • Sure do… now i just gotta find the tapes for it lol -_-'

        • He changed things in the 2004 DVD release.

He changed the look of Jabba in ep 4 (acceptable), added Hayden Christenssen in ep 6 (bad choice), and changed the emperor in ep 5 (acceptable).

If you want to see the original cuts where Han shoots first, you have to watch it on VHS.

        • My 2004 release had the original versions on a 2nd disc, therefore can watch Han shoot first on DVD.

        • Sorry, just checked and saw it was the 2006 release of the DVD's that had the original versions.

      • Even better.

Have watched these many more times than the actual movies. :)

    • I bought this version recently off Amazon. Was disappointed. :(
Any idea where can I get the original version DVDs/Blu-Rays?

      • You mean the originals from the 70s and 80s? They only exist on VHS as far as I know.

        • Yes, from 70s and 80s. :(
Haven't people been able to convert VHS version to DVD yet? :)

Great Xmas gift. The price is strong in this one. Amazon UK and Zavvi are around £43-£45 posted which is around AUD$80.

  • Cheapest ever I recall this was $88 around a year ago or so from Big W…Would say its a good deal for a wonderful package

Ugggh, but it's not really the 'complete set' now is it.
Do I buy it now, wait for the three new movies to come out in … 5 years? Then re-buy the 'actually complete set' then?

Also - Cheapest at Amazon US has been $69.99USD (~$77AU) plus shipping, Cheapest at Amazon UK has been £47.75GBP (~$87AU) plus shipping…

    • Mmmm, same dilemma haha… Although I have the Phantom Menace someone gave to me for a Kris Kringle gift. I'll probably wait..

You gotta collect them all. There will be a new cut when the 9 movie box set releases, and George will make more dumb changes to his old movies.

Something else to consider is time frame. I don't know how long JJ Abrams will take to make them, but George Lucas always took 3 years per movie. It could be a very long time before there's a 9 disc set. If you want to see them again before then, I'd just get this.

Would it be naive to assume that Blu Ray won't be #1 in 9 years anyway?

        • That's a good point.

But you can rebuy it (again) with 9 movies and new cuts on whatever will be the current format.

      • afaik, Disney are planning on doing to star wars what they've done with the Marvel movies in terms of releases ie Ep 7 in 2015, a single-character spin-off in 2016, Ep 8 in 2017 and so on…

I think I heard all this when Disney announced they had bought Star Wars so things might have changed since then.

But if they stick to this timetable, I reckon you should be able to get all 9 in 2020…

        • Don't tell me that they are going to do a cross over between Star Wars and Marvel universe…

          Vader: Nooooooooo….

        • Deadpool: We're done here ROLL CREDITS!

    • +1

It's not complete unless it has the Holiday Special. Happy Life Day!

      • The Holiday Special, Clone Wars movie, and all the TV series.

        • Don't forget Angry Birds…

  • Good price. Pity I've already splurged on the LotR trilogy extended editions this weekend from Amazon UK…

    6 movies… lies.

There are only 3 movies in this franchise.

I don't like how Georgie Boy tinkers with his movies every time he releases it for a new format. He's changed the colours in many scenes now and he doesn't offer an option to keep the original cuts.

That Vader NOOOOOO scene is stupid as hell.

    • +3

His directing became even better, and more complex for the new ones in my opinion. In the Vader "NOOOOOO!" scene, Georgie Boy was just mirroring our final internalised reaction to his three recent movies and original 'remasterings'.

    • Never understood why they had to go mess with the old versions. It's a bit like Spielberg re-releasing E.T. but with a new CGI alien.

      • You can have the new ET as Jar Jar Binks if you'd like. He has done well bringing down director reputations throughout the galaxy.

      • To be fair, Spielberg regretted it and now the 1982 version is the only one on Blu-ray. If only Georgie Boy would be that sensible..

EDIT: plus the Berg made BOTH versions available at the time. I don't think anyone would care what new versions of Star Wars were made if there original ones were available in high-def.

  • Rats. After missing out on the last big w special I found it in readiness for a Christmas present for my sons (and me) Took delivery last week from JB at about $90 incl postage.

  • Great price but I rather want a full set from Episode I to IX.

  • Buzz Lightyear lead role in Star Wars VII - IX?

  • I already got the box set, but this is incredibly cheap! By any chance does anyone know where I can get the soundtrack for the original Star Wars movies (new hope onwards) for a good price?

  • Blacktown and North Sydney were out on Friday. Bondi Junction have heaps on a 'box set' table, I picked one up yesterday! I was going to post this morning confirming stock but was beaten to it!

On Sat Dec 7, you can get this for $40 at Big W with their 50% off bluray special.
