  • Is there any way to get free shipping with Dan Murphy still?

    • +5

Buy 15 cartons (spend over $300) or use code 'DMWEL1113' and add a bottle of wine ;)

  • +6

These are quite nice on a hot day.
Better then VB/XXXX/Tooheys/etc & a lesser hangover due to the lack of preservatives

    • +2

At the risk of being negged, I actually like the new VB…Like the new Crown, too. Used to despise it.

    • +1

I don't think Tooheys New has any preservatives

      • +1

Yeah I believe you are right, neither does VB or XXXX Gold.

  • +2

you cant pay me to drink this stuff…. the words "cats pi$$" comes to mind

    • +18

what does cat pi$$ taste like?

      • According to the wine experts, like sauvignon blanc. Don't ask me how they know =p

      • +3

        like pussy?

PS: above not meant to offend or be rude (remove if so)

        • +9

I am highly offended at that remark.

          Signed English cricket team.

        • David Warner would describe it as "weak"

      • Corona, probably his choice in beer.

  • +3

Oettinger is a decent beer. Tastes like any other average continental beer from Europe. Not for lightweights. this stuff blows your face off. I'll be picking up a couple at this price.

    • +2

Drinkable, but decent isn't probably the word I'd use. When I spent a summer in a sleepy village in Germany, earning a meagre 200 euros a week, this was my beer of choice. It cost the princely sum of 6 euros for a crate of 20 0.5l bottles.
An Ozbargainer's dream, for sure, but not great. :)

      • Speaking as a European myself, 6 euros for a crate of 20 bottles isn't really considered that much of a bargain over there.

        • Yes, it was the standard price of this budget beer. There were cheaper, but that meant buying them at Lidl or Aldi, and paying too much deposit/not having a crate to return the bottles in.

    • Can't say this really blows your face off..lol

  • +3

    Thanks OP!
Warburn Premium Reserve Shiraz is an absolute bargain at $4.45 each after discount. You can buy 3 max and get 3 free, although multiple times. Chrissie presents done.
Oettinger is a great clean tasting beer.

    • Any opinions on the Warburn? I'm wary of any wine calling itself 'premium' yet costing less than $10.

      • Barossa, shiraz, 2012, full bodied, spicy, Gold - Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2012, great reviews.
The price is unheard of for a reserve wine. It's cheap enough to give it a shot.

        • +2

The term "reserve" is used quite loosely here in Australia. It would seem there are no actual requirements tied to it. Just marketing speak? A 2012 wine certainly would not have been aged for very long.

The gold medal is a different story. That's what swayed me to put in an order.

Unfortunately, as I found out only now, that was false advertising by Dan Murphy. There is indeed a "Warburn Premium Shiraz" amongst the 2012 winners. Albeit that was for the 2011 vintage.

The 2012 vintage was entered into the 2013 show - and did not receive any medal at all.

  • uncle dans also has 2013 Gunn Estate Sav Blanc BOGOF = 2 for $10.90. a very inexpensive NZ and delicious wine. very easy to drink

    • how do you get that? BOGOF not working as a code :) Instore only?? Can you get multiples?

      • instore.

    • I tried this but it didn't work. Do you need to use a different code?

  • +2

if you use code DMWEL1113 and make sure you have some wine or spirits in your cart, its free delivery, i know as i just did it and saved $21 delivery :)

I like the $3.80 Moscato, or i should say the wife does, so a very cheap option to get the free delivery.

Now my only worry - i ordered 2 cases, should i have ordered 200… as nothing worse than paying double the price 5 weeks later when i run out lol

    • The Gossips Sweet Lips Moscato?

    • Brilliant… this code should be added to the OP

    • Code doesn't appear to be working for free delivery? Did you select standard delivery?

      • +2

Only gets applied when you get to the payment screen…
Definitely works, cause I Brodened this deal and ordered 10 cases and a single $9 bottle with free delivery.

        • Yep - Once I continued - it worked fine. Thanks

  • +1

    Thanks guy. Needed some heavies.

  • +4

Decent enough beer, especially for $21.

  • +7

Very good beer at the standard price, at this price it is an absolute steal.

    • +1

Agreed. Best bag for buck beer I know. It's cheaper than VB etc usually.

  • +8

    German VB.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    Damn that is cheap!! 24 x 0.33 x (4.7% - 1.15%) = 280ml taxable alcohol, $12.80 excise. $1.90 GST,
so they only get $6.10 after tax. 25c/bottle. That's cheaper than bottled water.

And it is shipped from Germany FFS!

    • +2

      It's criminal isn't it?
I cannot understand how they can make beer on the other side of the world, bottle it and ship it here and at standard price it's $10 cheaper than even the mid strength stuff that's made down the road.

Even more confusing is how the locally brewed "imported beer" is coming to the point that it's cheaper than the Australian brands…
for example, Australian brewed Peroni Nastro Azzuro is standard price $39/carton at Dans… It's got 5.1% alcohol, and a licence fee to whoever owns Peroni, but comparable "local" beers made in the same or similar breweries are $40+ with less alcohol and no licence fees to pay!

      • +7

I was talking to a German bloke last xmas when DM had Bitburger for $30 & posed the same question.
He reckons the brewery sell a lot less beer in the euro winter, but to keep the brewery going, they just leave production at the same level & flog it off at cost price. It keeps their workers in a job, the brewery ticking over & people get to try their beer.

      • What the guy above said is probably correct, plus the European breweries I assume have a much larger scale which would keep costs down.

I do agree with what you say about the local stuff, its getting absurb the prices on some beers. Even at DM/FC these days a case of Carlton seems to be $45 and it seems gone are the days of cheap VB tinnie blocks….

      • +2

I think I read the other day that the Australian beer industry is basically a duopoly, with the two major companies not Australian owned, and they have margins of about 30%. 30% margin on plain old beer is just outrageous.

  • These are always the last beers in the esky but still cant resist at that price

  • DMWEL113 not working here when I add the mosacto as well.
tried a few different suburbs to see if it changed .. gr!! :P

    • +1

I added Sweet Lips Moscato (Case of 6) to my 2 cases of beer, it says delivery is there, and its not to till the payment screen that the option is removed from your cart, so you dont think it has worked for the first few screens, but as long as it says it has applied the code, just before payment, it will work fine (or did for me).

      • I got to the payment screen where it wants card deets and it is still there, assume i just fill out details of my CC and hope it takes it off?

        cheers

        • I used Paypal, so i could have the option of not processing if the price wasnt deducted, maybe the code had limited use?

Wish you the best with the code.

        • Should be taken off at that stage… did you enter the code on the shopping cart page?

        • Code didn't work for me. Got to the PayPal login screen where it told me I was still able to confirm the order back on the Dan Murphys site but once I was taken back there the order was already finalised & confirmed :(

The deal is great BUT please be careful with this code OK!

        • make sure you click standard delivery
          worked for me

  • Dang, was just about stop drinking… But yeah, I don't think it's too bad a beer, just different to the usual Aussie ones.

    • +2

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking beer." is the phrase :)

  • +1

Great deal and a nice beer thanks OP.

  • In-store too?

    • Click and Collect, so order online and then rock up at the store with 24 stubbie coolers and your right to go.

  • -7

Cheap European Beer. Not taste great. Taste roughly similar to Cold, much worse than VB

    • +2

Tastes nothing like Cold, also miles above VB. Its average for a euro, but I would rather have this than anything CUB make

  • -7

Oettinger !!! Damn this beer tastes yuk…!

  • Willing to give it a go at that price. Also got four bottles of Shiraz, so in total a case and four bottle of plonk for less than $40. Love it!

  • 3 ordered with DMWEL code

    thanks OP

  • Good value at that price - grabbed 3 Warburn SHiraz's as well (so got extra 3 free) - reviews are that it's an exceptional buy under $10 so at effectively around $4 a bottle worth a few in the cellar/cupboard.

FWIW you can only get a max 3 BOGOF bottles. Thanks OP!

  • Delivery code is not working for Tasmania

  • -1

This stuff is not to bad, rather have it than any CUB swill

  • How are you guys getting BOGO on the wine bottles? Does it need to be a case or just single bottles. The code RO6971 is not working for me.

    • +1

add a single wine to the cart, add code, redeem, second bottle appears in cart with discount.

      • Looks like works only on warburn premium Shiraz and not on the Warburn premium moscato. Can anyone confirm on what all bottles the BOGO is working.

Also how does free delivery work with bogo coupon on wine. Or I guess it either BOGO or free delivery.

  • Thanks OP! Got 2 cases with free delivery with a bottle of muscato.

  • Back to $29.90 now :-(

  • price changed to 29.90 already :(

  • +1

just went back to $29.90 as I was clicking through checkout >:(

    • -1

      Same here :(

  • Deal over :-(

  • so the question is, was it an error or they just got swamped with too many orders?

    • If it's an error, they're honouring my order. Just got my ready-to-collect SMS.

    • No they had that price in store.

  • +8

I'd bet a carton of this on the fact that the people who think this is pi$$ think Corona is a great beer….

    • This is better then Corona but they are both average beers.

      • +2

and yet Corona asks for $45+ a carton.

I wouldn't rag on Corona as much if it priced appropriately.

    • +3

Corona is beer? Doesn't taste like it. It's not offensive, but it's not beer.

  • hopefully the honour my order

    • My order got honoured. Its packed awaiting shipping :)

  • still avaliable at this price in store, just went past.

  • Seconded. Wasn't available at Vermont South store, but a huge stack of slabs at Rowville store at the OP's price.

    Bought 2 :)

    Try some real ale:

    http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/north-coast-old-rasputin-russia…

Oettinger is what you piss out. No taste, laughable watery ABV, no balls.

    • +1

Whilst I agree with you, and am an ale man and not a lager man, there are certain factors that will make me happily buy and drink Oettinger. The price is the main thing, but also I'm not that keen on an ale on a hot afternoon.

    • +2

Stout is not an ale son, it's a stout.

You have much to learn in the way of beer.

      • Actually Stout is just one type of Ale.

      • -1

Clueless. Export stout and porter was it before all this pale rubbish.

        • -1

So Stout and Ale are different then.

          Like I said.

        • Stout is to Ale as Commodore is to Holden.
Stout is one type of Ale. Commodore is one type Holden.

Like Stout, Pale Ale is a type of Ale, so is (traditional English) Bitter or Australian Ale (eg Coopers Green).

        • Coopers Green

          You mean Coopers Pale Ale?

        • Yes. :)

    • +6

This is OzBargain - have some respect for the $20.90 German pils!

    • +1

As this is a stout and comes at around $150-$200 a carton, I have to assume this is a joke.

A crappy joke, but a joke.

      • -4

So in the interests of being cheap, drink rubbish? Gee, clever. And its actually around $160 a case. You know, real ale. Not factory pisswater.

        • +1

You realise $160 is between $150 and $200, right?

You are a sad, strange little man.

        • +3

          This is Ozbargain not Ozletspi$$ourmoneyagainstawall

    • +1

      5% is "laughable watery ABV"?
Sure, it's not Trappist Ale, but it's also 20% of the price…

  • +3

Bummer, that was quick. Just rang my local and they said it's back to normal price. They suggested taking a screen shot next time, and that they'd price match it.

    • +1

      good detective work son
