Is this MSY PACKAGE DEAL worth the price and value?

Hi guys,

I've been thinking about this long and hard.

I have no idea about the computing world and hence why I'm asking for advice.
I have never owned a computer before apart from a notebook which is 5 years old and have recently been fried because I've poured icy cold water over it.

I'm using my iPad to type this up.

Here's my problem.

I want to purchase a computer for my everyday use. Such as gaming (Cod,dota,bf4&etc…), use of office program's, surfing the net and all sorts of other computing activities.

please consider my budget at around 1200$$$ or lower.

I have found a package deal on MSY.

Actually, can I link instead? There's so much to type. Sorry for anyinconvenience guys.

Here: http://www.msy.com.au/SYSTEMS/INTELAMD-GAMERENTERTAINMENT1.p…
I'm leaning towards the very first deal. Which costs exactly $1115. Intel core i5-4440 3.1GHz (LGA-1150)

What do you guys think? Is it worth the price and value? Should I look more? I'm not too sure about specs and all. I don't know what I need.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Peace, love and eat. Cheers guys. Love you all.

  • I would wait for a deal from cplonline or mrpcgeek

The 7750 is not all that great either, only worth ~120; yet the entire bundle is $1115

Screen + keyboard combo only worth $180 max

    Not Worth.

  • http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c… Suggest that, plus a $200 GPU + $200 24" LCD

  • I'll check both your advices. Thanks guys.

Building a computer isn't hard, plenty of tutorials on youtube, but if you're not comfortable with assembly it can be arranged for $70. I'm assuming you will need a monitor, keyboard and mouse, headsets maybe?

    So for the PC build:

    cpu: i5 4440 @ $204
    motherboard: asus b85m-g @ $88
    RAM: G.Skill-NT 8gb single 1600 @$84
    HDD storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB @ $94
Graphics card: MSI HD7970 Twin Frozr iii @$359 (i own this card, plays BF4 in ultra with 60+ average frames per second: http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=10748)
Case: Thermaltake Commander MS-III @ $58 (you may want extra fans if you don't have good air con in summer)
    Power supply: Antec Neo Eco 620C 80Plus Bronze 620W @ $89
Monitor: AOC 23.6" @ $164 (comes with speakers)
Optical drive: Asus 24x DVD writer @ $19
    Total is $1159

Doesn't leave much room for mouse and keyboard if you're after those suited for gaming, you can pick up cheap generic packs for $20 which are fine. My keyboard is the thermaltake knucker for $42 and I purchased the 8000dpi anker mouse off ebay for $53. Also purchased Sades 905 gaming headset which is the best $34 investment I've made, great positional audio.

You can find sales on certain items such as the graphics card and monitor, I picked up the same card for $299 a month ago, try and get a hd7970 at the very least on sale to really get the most out of gaming, keep your eyes pealed for specials! This was just last weekend: https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/view/EpicHour Good offers will come up on Ozbargain.

Also you may want to consider purchasing a solid state drive to install your operating system on but thats another $100 for 120GB or thereabouts. Operating system is around $110 for windows 8.1 or 7.

    • Holy shit, thanks donkey doc. I'll def consider this build. Cheers.

    • CPU is poor, you don't want a low clocked i5 that is locked to boot. MOBO is so so, I'd get H87 minimum for full 6 SATA 3 ports, single channel RAM is retarded, you obviously want dual channel, GPU is OK, CASE is crap, get a real HAF case with decent airflow at least, those monitor speakers are laughable.

      • hey big spender, dig this bender!

      • +3

If you have that much to say about his build, why don't you pay the difference for him? You're always on these threads telling people to spend way more than they budgeted for.

        • Thnks both scrimshaw and donkey, and.. Ethereal.

Just to make sure donkeyman, the build youve suggested, is it worth the overall picture? The money well spent? Or should I spend more? I'm still indecisive as this is my very very first comp and build, with my own savings spent.

And also, the raedon hd7970 is cheaper than what you have suggested, should I get that instead?

Will this also work on a larger screen such as 27" inches?

Ssd? What do you think? Cause I'm thinking of getting one as well, since its on sale on amazon for the 120gb.

What do you or guys think?

Thanks alot, I appreciate this. Love yall

          • If you do want to spend more then one area you should spend on is perhaps a bigger SSD for all your games, look on Amazon Black friday deals for some 200+ GB ones as they're currently far better value than 120GB drives.

I just bought a 180GB Intel 530 this arvo for just $130 delivered, and that was probably the best deal I've seen in ages. You can probably try the Samsung Evo which is a little more expensive, but still a deal nonetheless.

If you don't need all that extra storage, then I would look into getting a faster Core i5 4570, a kit of slightly faster RAM and perhaps throw in a wireless NIC if you're not connected via ethernet LAN and a nice gaming mouse.

          • It doesn't matter what 7970 you get, just get whatever is a good deal. The 7970 is a top end card and can handle the newest games at the most common single monitor resolutions.

Price on Samsung 840 just updated to $144.

        • ssd have dramatically decreased loading times for me in bf4. well worth it.

You can build a 4670 + H87 board in a proper case and PSU for 1200. Stop being so demented and lost.

        • +2

why get a H87 for 2 extra sata slots that he wont ever use? you can get 4 sata 3 @ 6gb/s with the asus b85m-g, only $88

  • I struggled to hit the magical 1200 pricepoint.

I did however get to 1464 using the MSY website with ethereal's suggested cpu and board. I am not surprised that I blew the budget on ethereal's recommendations. There is no need for a H87 motherboard and you'll get by perfectly well with a b85. I also don't know why you'd want an i5-4670 because the cpu will have less effect on FPS in games as opposed to the GPU. In fact, if you go by this benchmark here, so long as you have 4 cores, you are sweet.

    • Ex monitor. Once you chuck in that and a mouse and keyboard naturally you'll crack 1200. H87 for full SATA 3, not 3/3 split like B85. And you want a 4670 due to the higher 3.4GHz base clock + boost clock (3.8GHz) not 3.0GHz/3.2GHz, which is just slow.

      • Good point, but I don't think he has a monitor, mouse or kb lying about.

        • Thnks guys, but I have at all, not even a piece of smoked salmon.

But I'll def consider this. Btw, instead of a 23.7 inch screen, is a 27" alright? Or?… Nah?
