Amazon has pushed the price on this 2TB HDD back down for its Countdown to Black Friday Deals Week.
Similar to Canvio basics, for those that missed out on http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121540 you can now get on board.

compared with WD 2TB Ultra, which is better?
The drive in the Toshiba (MQ01AB200) has a standard SATA connector if you ever wanted to reuse the drive in a laptop/computer/media centre/gaming console (assuming the 15mm drive height can fit wherever you put it). The drive inside the WD 2TB Ultra (WD20NMVW) has an integrated USB connector, meaning it's only usable as an external drive.
So this one is the one with the standard SATA connector?
Yes.
Ordered one thanks Op
Hi, how do you make amazon ship to au?
I just checked out and it allowed me
I put in my Sydney address, but it said "cannot deliver to your address".
Maybe you chose a different colour? I tried silver and it doesn't work, but black does.
I can not really tell a difference between Canvio Connect and Basics other than this hard drive comes with a Pogolong PC software that allows me to use this hard drive as a cloud storage.
No difference other than the crappy software and a different (glossy) enclosure. :)
I wonder what to do when the drive goes dead? Is the warranty global or only for the US
quoted from Toshiba support: "Only addresses in the United States are accepted"
Try http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00CGUMS48
It is basically the same site, except Amazon pledges a part of the proceeds to charity.
Now thats ethical bargaining :)
I ordered a 2tb Canvio from the other deal. It was near dead on arrival, was oddly formatted FAT32 from the box and could not be reformatted to NTFS. Amazon replaced it quickly, very impressed with the service. The new drive is totally different to the first one - a) it works b) much fatter enclosure as though it has a 15mm drive inside rather than a normal thickness drive like the first one. Oh and c) new one has rubber feet and a blue led. Almost like the first one was a fake., but probably not being from Amazon.
Did you have to pay to return the first drive?
They have said they will pay return shipping, but will wait and see if that actually happens.
I believe that you keep the old ones which it cost to much just to send it back.
It depends, sometimes they ask you to send it back, sometimes they dont. Not sure what they use for their internal criteria.
Got mine last time, good little drive (although I need to find out why my Dell Monitor won't power it)
Didn't work for me for any of the hard drive, cannot ship to this address? Different prices now, only the silver or white are $US 99 :-(
Same prob - only silver & white are $99 and these are the ones that don't ship to oz!
No bargain!
It was a bargain, but the black version which was shippable to Australia is now out of stock at Amazon.
Have anyone ever opened the case? If so, is it easy to damage to hard disk if one is not careful? Can the external case be put back and continue to use it as portable drive once the case has been opened?
I never open it,
but i doubt the hdd would be damage, most likely the clips if they have any could break or might not break (depends how careful you are)..
Also I think they might have a "void if removed" sticker..
If anyone can confirm this…pls post
Can't speak about this drive, but Toshiba's 2TB Canvio Basics model is very easy to open without damaging the case — you can even reassemble it without any evidence it's been opened. No "void if removed" stickers on that particular model.
Silver and White appear to still 99?
Won't ship
back in stock, bought the basics for US$84.99+shipping
