2.91 kg isn't THAT heavy for a man. My laptop is about 2.9kg. I do carry it around fair bit. I think people shouldn't be put off by a 3kg laptop.
Good deal Steve, but I'd never buy a laptop without having a look in the shops though. I like to have my Control key be on the left to the Function key, and stand alone Page Up/Page Down keys.
:)

That's the idea — check them out in the shop, and find the cheapest place online :)
I also completely agree that you need to check out the feel of the keyboard, as it is not something that can be easily described in technical specification. One thing that puts me off buying the current MacBook is its keyboard — there is just no way for me to touch type on it.
Okay. 2.9kg is not heavy. I remembered my old Inspiron 8000 is around 3.6kg for a 15", and I carried that to and from work. But I was young and fit back then :)
It looks like a different R61 than the one on sale at Lenovo's website though. It has T7100 (1.8GHz), 14.1" WXGA and 80GB HDD. Since it comes with XP Professional I suspect that it is an older model. Personally I think it might be a better buy though.
Yeah be careful.
Me and "the Boys" have been following this notebook over at OverClockers Australia (www.ocau.com), and I, myself got confused stating that the R61e was the cheapest around, but we had our eyes on the above-mentioned R61 for $1199.
Now this special is the R61e.
Very nice deal. Let's run some numbers:
Looks like one rock solid (but very heavy) notebook.
