Seems like an awesome price, can anyone with this set comment on the quality please?

    • +1

      http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30167507/

Can't find the RRP, but from the UK site its 20pounds, so quite a price drop.

    • +1

the quality probably won't awesome, but for $5, no-brainer

    • +7

The trick with cutlery is 'pressed/stamped' vs 'forged/drop forged'. If it's been pressed/stamped from a sheet of metal, then it's much easier for you to bend it back again. Forged means it was shaped hot, and thus it's always been than shape - it won't bend as easy. You also tend to find forged are heavier than pressed.

Obviously it's not an infallible guide, but helps if you are shopping for something that won't make you look like Uri Geller.

Thus stuff, surprise surprise, looks pressed.

  • +68

Watch out for these, it's really hard to assemble the forks.

    • +23

      Quit forking around.

      • +23

        oh for forks sake

        • +9

          Use the forks, luke

        • +9

But still worth forking out five bucks for.

        • -3

Meh. This IKEA cutlery set doesn't look very knife.

        • +3

          You call THAT a knife?

        • +1

          meh. Zero forks given.

        • +1

          Its a trap!
          .
          .
          (oh wait, its a deal)

        • +2

          That's not a knife, that's a spoon…

        • +3

          I see you've played knifey-spooney before…

        • I love a good fork and spoon.

        • There is no spoon…

        • Only Zuul.

        • re: "it's a trap"
Is this in reference to Black Books?

    • Forks? I thought they were open ended slotted flat spoons…

    • -1

Lol! Why would that be a worry?

  • +1

1.2kg in weight. must be good. lol

  • +3

I know I will be told to hand in my Ozbargain badge but I suspect this is one of those deals where you get what you pay for i.e. not much.

    • +4

      Yep, you're out.

    • +1

Would be good for a "catering" set for when its your turn to host Christmas for your nearest and dearest 25 family members

      • +2

Some one needs to go hungry, max of 4 set @ 6 settings per set = 24 sets.

  • +4

This is absolutely fascinating… price wise.

Good replacements for plastic rubbish, that annoys everyone at bbq's

  • +3

Yeah seriously this is disposable cutlery prices. Any quality above plastic is a bonus

    • Can metal recyclers take stainless steel? If so then this would be better than disposable plastic from a landfill perspective! Use once then recycle!

      • Most plastics are recyclable are you sure they aren't? But reusable is better.

Plastic cutlery is 79c for 20 pack at Coles.

  • +3

I'd rather stay at home and spoon

    • :)

  • why are they so cheap ? ikea is too far away … good deal thou

    • Because they'll be coming in containers from overseas.

    • +7

Because we don't care that it's been manufactured in a dodgey factory in China filled with slaves.

      • +4

frankly, it's a misperception. if u go to factories in China, you'll know. They've come a long way.

        • -4

it's not, they still live in trees. XD

        • Thats the problem that the Chinese is facing, improving working/living standards, pretty soon their labor cost advantage will be out the window. Then its onto the next slave country, India, Africa, SE Asia etc.

        • Its been slowly getting out for a long time, with Countries like Vietnam taking up the slack.

My cousin lives in beijing and tells me about the imported 'cheap' stuff.

  • +2

Not available in Perth..But here is a cheap alternative $2.95 for a 16 piece

    http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/products/00171186/

    • The 16 piece you linked to is out of stock in WA and SA as well.

      • It's never in stock. I've been looking for the past month or so. I ended up going with a $10 set from Big W that was reduced from $22ish.

  • Not much lighter than the other cutlery sets from IKEA. Looks arite.

  • Can I buy online via IKEA website?

  • wow so cheap, logan store is local to me, wonder if they will have enough stock,

    Noticed it's Nov. 15 2013 – Nov. 17, 2013 or while stocks last

  • Anyone know what the normal price for these are? I appreciate you efforts Garratt but I'm fresh out of pound notes!

  • +1

Cake forks! Now I can look classy.

  • +2

    Care instructions
… For the cutlery to be easy to clean and to reduce the risk of corrosion, always rinse off the remains of any food immediately.

    WTF?!

  • Now we can all become professional Spoon Benders?

  • any free delivery? ;)

  • i'm getting 10 sets so i can horn up my fork throwing skills.

    • horn up my fork throwing skills

Either you're going hunting rhino in Africa, or you're got some really weird bedroom habits :P

But a big +1 on this deal for me. No more eating with my hands! Woohoo!

      • yep. getting a fork holding belt and with an expertise in throwing forks, i'm all set to hunt rhinos!

  • +1

MARTORP I believe is the Uri Geller signature set.

  • +1

I wonder why WA doesn't have it.

That aside I don't usually buy IKEA cutlery because of the IKEA logo stamped on most of them.

    • +1

My understanding is that the WA/SA stores are a different franchise (and hence different specials) to the VIC/NSW/QLD stores.

  • Be careful of the Swedish trap. They offer you cheap utensils so you keep coming back for the food.

  • +1

The last special was sold out on the first day. Get in early if you really want it.

  • +2

No love for WA as usual :(

    • Getting FORKED again in WA!

  • +2

    pfft cake forks.
    i use my bare hands

    • pizza knife and fork… burger knife and fork… kebab knife and fork… carrot sticks and dip… you guessed it, knife and fork

  • 1.2KG of 'metal' for $4.99, nice deal.

  • I guess i can try brushing up on my 'knife' throwing skills…..the spoons are a plus too…..damn no SA :(

    • Sorry, I resisted…..

    • Thanks for posting this. Might score a big outdoor table for the Xmas dinner!

    • I can't seem to find any details about the RANSBY 7 piece outdoor set?

There's no dimensions on the above offers link, and when I google the setting there doesn't appear to be any other versions of it?

Is this perhaps a new set that is being introduced?

      Odd..

  • Spooning leads to forking….

    • Me love you long tine.

      • …..and if you don't pay it leads to knifing…….

  • +1

Official offer can be found on:
    http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_AU/offers/martorp.html

  • Wonder if they will have stock. So anyone queuing up for this?

  • I spoke with one of the customer service rep at Ikea and they mentioned that due to quality issue this product has been discontinued..if you use ikea's online assistant and type Martorp it also says the same thing..

    http://tinypic.com/r/15mcv34/5

    • Which means there's no stock. And might corrode even when you can buy it

  • Since it's Friday, any one can confirm if the grade is 304 or (18/8 and 18/10)?
    http://mightynest.com/blog/stainless-steel-all-about-food-gr…

    • On the back it's stamped 224 22.

  • +1

Springvale Ikea has been open for 7mins and apparently have sold 2 pallets of these (maybe sold out already).

    • I was thinking of going after work but now no point to go.

  • It's now sold out in Tempe Ikea.

  • +1

I can confirm I was there, and it was sold out in around 10 mins, people pushing and complaining. when I got to the pallet there was still a few levels, due to the pushing I wasnt able to get one, after speaking to one of the staff, they were able to obtain one for me.

I have never seen so many people at ikea.

    • It was like watching one of those black saturday walmart clips on youtube. =S

      • they should have limited to 2 per person or even one, as i checked out almost everyone had 4, one family had 8-10 people and had 4 each, thats just crazy must be running a restaurant

        • +3

+1 to that. I watched a small Asian lady get pushed over by a big white guy (not trying to be racist). As she was trying to get up, more and more people just brushed by and stepping over her to get between her and the pallet, did the thought of helping a poor young lady never crossed their minds (IKEA RICHMOND). I had to stand in front of her to stop the chaos so that she could get up. Do people really lose all their sense of decency over $4.99.

        • +1

At Ikea Springvale members of my family got knocked over (By a big Asian bloke also not being racist) and my daughter dropped her bag which was stolen ever after going back several times to look for it could not find it. I will call up to see if its been handed in but not holding my breath. If anyone sees a pink dora bag with spare clothes in it please message me.

Initially at the door one staff member said 10 at a time (Smart thing to do) and then an older staff member said let them all in which pretty much caused a stampede. I will be making an official complaint and requesting compensation for the missing bag and contents. NOT HAPPY IKEA.

        • poor thing. I'll donate for a new bag if you like pm me

        • Thanks for your kind offer.

Just got off the phone to their complaints. Initially they called it lost property and not their issue so I requested a manager and said I want compensation because their mishandling caused this issue and they took all of my details and a valuation of the bag and spare clothes inside it and gave me a reference number so they may do the right thing.

I'm more incensed that they could have handled it sooo much better and avoided this issue. Lets hope they learn from this.

        • -2

I lost my bag too can you please buy me a new one k thanks

    • +1

Thanks to Addo for speaking to the staff member. I got one set from Ikea staff member as well
