Features

Tilting widescreen LCD
The E-PL3 is the first PEN series camera with a tilting 3.0-inch display (16:9 aspect) to make shooting more convenient. This allows for easy shooting and framing regardless of if you are caught behind the crowd or even holding your camera at waist level whilst photographing your kids and pets in the backyard. It also allows for more creative framing opportunities.

Superior Image Quality
Features the same high image quality as the premium E-P3. This is achieved by utilising the very same size of sensor taken from Olympus' DSLR series. With 1080i Full HD video capture in an extremely compact body weighing just 313 grams with battery and memory card, the PEN Lite E-PL3 is perfect for the user that wishes for the highest quality in the most convenient package.

Lightning Fast Autofocus Speed
The first PEN Lite uses FAST AF (Frequency Accelerated Sensor Technology) and features focusing speeds and camera responsiveness similar to the flagship E-P3 model. This allows for focusing speeds that match and even surpass the focusing speeds found in modern DSLRs. Perfect for capturing the kids running around in the backyard or even to capture that sput of the moment shot when street shooting.

Creative Art Filters
Six popular Art Filters with advanced Variations and Art Effects allow users to express their creativity and unleash their artistic side. Choose from:

Pop Art

  • Awesome price, even better than most of the grey importers

  • Great camera for the price.

    Tip to buyers planning to buy this before going overseas: since this is below the $300 TRS threshold, be sure to buy something relevant to get it over $300 on the invoice.

    If I hadn't bought the Nikon V1 and flash kit, I'd be onto this like Flash…

    • It doesn't even have to be relevant, basically anything $2 or more will take you over the threshold…
      In fact under the new rules, if you purchased something from DSE previously (but still within the 60 day window), you can just add that to the camera receipt to ensure you exceed the $300 TRS minimum.

      I wanna buy it just so I can "capture that sput of the moment shot when street shooting" ;-)

    Great price. It's a slightly older model, but it's very much quite capable.

    A better camera than the e-pm1 that is sometimes listed here.

    The current model in this line would be the e-pl5 (& e-pl6, which is available only in Asia), which has a 16mp sensor, which is identical to the one in the e-p5, e-pm2 and omd e-m5 (e-m1 has a similar sensor, but contains additional phase detect sensors).

    I think with the right lenses, this camera can produce some great photos. I own the e-pm1, which has the same 12mp sensor.

    Lenses to consider adding at some stage:
    * Panasonic 14mm f/2.5
    * Panasonic 20mm f/1.7
    * Samyang 7.5mm f/3.5 fisheye
    * Olympus 45mm f/1.8
    * Sigma 60mm f/2.8

    The above are all superior to the kit lens for night time/low light photos.

    Obviously there are many other lenses available for m4/3 that would work with this camera, those are a few of my personal suggestions.

    Combined with the Panasonic 14 or 20 mm lenses, this camera becomes quite pocketable/small.

    • I own the Mark II 20mm f1.7, its a awesome lens.

  • If I hadn't just bought myself a camera, I would be very interested in this - it looks like a really good option at this price.

    I'm curious though - doesn't this camera have a 4/3-size sensor? Why does Olympus say:
    "This is achieved by utilising the very same size of sensor taken from Olympus' DSLR series."

    Do their DSLR models really use a 4/3-size sensor as well? I thought DSLRs usually have APS-C size sensors and up. Or am I missing something basic?

    • DSLR's aren't restricted to just APS-C sensors.

    • I just did some reading - there's so much I don't know! Turns out Olympus had a range of DSLRs years ago that used a 4/3-size sensor. (The last one to be released was back in 2009 apparently.)

      These cameras (which retained the traditional mirror box design) were part of the Four Thirds system - not to be confused with the Micro Four Thirds system (mirrorless cameras such as the one in this deal).

  • This is a very underrated camera. I use this with a Sigma 30mm f2.8 Art lens and the IQ and sharpness rival many more expensive and bigger sensor cameras.

    I thought the kit lens was ok but these primes really unlocked the potential of the camera.

    I got my 30mm from Digidirect store in Sydney city for $170 (maybe this should be a separate deal). Best bang for buck lens. Free plug for them:

  • Only $50 more than the E-PM1 kit for $249 Target had on clearance .

    Both the PL3 and PM1 are great. Best buy a spare battery-under $50,

  • Also for a fun lens, try the BCL-1580-I own one. Not the greatest IQ but for $99, it's fun to shoot with.
