  • not much of a bargain when these were $169 at officeworks last month..

  • If you want it now instead of waiting weeks from Amazon
You can pick it up from HN for $198 ( $193 with discount code) or price match with OW for even less for local stock

Why pay $193. Dick Smith currently has it for $179 and price offer ends today. Still listed as $179 online. That price beats this deal in the topic. Local aussie store stock so no waiting weeks for delivery from the USA and no credit card currency conversion fee required.

  • "power supply included" but you'll also need an adapter, so may as well add one to your cart from amazon

    • +1

This model comes with multiple plug adapters, including AU plug. You just slide it into the power supply and until you hear a click.

  • Given you can buy one locally from Dick Smiths for less, I really don't see this as a bargain. Even if you were paying $198 at HN or Officeworks, I'd still say it's worth the extra for local warranty.

    • Come tomorrow it will be back to $209 at Dick Smith but at the moment can enjoy the $179 price. I'm guessing there's a few hours left on this Dick Smith sale price. You can use the click and collect to pick it up at the local Dick Smith store. Pity Officeworks is no longer selling it for $169.

prices will continue to fall on these "4tb" drives anyway

    • +1

prices will continue to fall on everything!

    • Don't forget, whenever you see a normal price drop, please post it as a bargain.

  • Thanks for the tip on DSE. Missed the 169 deal

But some questions-as an added effect to storage—>
    1. can this drive be used externally and attached to a mynet router for streaming purposes
    2. Or can it be attached to the router so that multiple computers can access it and store to it? without a direct connection but more wifi to the router and then cable to the drive
    3. Since I am only getting one, is there any benefit in partioning. The main desktop computer is a Win XP 32 bit (don't know if that mattered but thought I would mention it)

Or is this only in the realm of NAS's

    Sorry for the noobness.

Edit: Router is a Mynet 600. The one that came cheap with MSY. Have openwrt'ed it
I currently use my PC with servio to connect to the PS3
Am hoping for a solution to use this new harddrive and ideally with main computer off

      1. and 2. Yes but it depends first of all if your router has a USB port for file server support and secondly whether it supports drive sizes of 4TB. Check the specs on the manufacturer's website. Also any client PC's accessing files on router-attached drives need to have the correct file-sharing services enabled and whatnot.

      2. No. It'll just increase read/write times and there is no practical benefit for partitioning a pure storage (non-system/frequently used application) drive whether internal or external.

      • Awesome thanks.
Will now need to learn about file services stuff :)

  • i missed the last local 4tb seagate special, aren't we due for one more before EOY - pls! :)
