How do these compare to the ALDI ones and do these work with Nespresso Capsules?

    • -1

They should be the same as I use the Woolworths Caffitaly pods in my ALDI.

And Nespresso pods aren't even comparable… put it simply, theres more coffee per pod in these than nespresso = not compatible + bigger and better taste

      • The ALDI pods do not work in the Caffitaly system. My understanding is that this is because the filters are in reverse.

There are 3 brands of capsules commonly available in Australia: MAP, Gloria Jeans & Woolies Select. There are also sellers on eBay.

        • They do work, but its not 100% You get duds now and then and probably not the full strength possible. The woolworth select pods are pretty good, or glora jeans. Didnt care much for the MAP varies I had

        • The red MAP pods are the only one that I drink - period. Once you find one that you like, stick to it. And yes all the other MAP ones sucked, as did the Aldi ones but that was just my prefence.

      • Which Caffitaly flavour do you recommend? I tried a fair few of the ALDI ones and some were much better than others

        • Taste differ, but I've tried thesee two flavours Ecaffe Prezioso (expires: 3-Feb-2014, 4 available) and Ecaffe Intenso (expires: 4-Jan-2014, 3 available) deals on eBay at $99 for 300 capsuled delivered are good value.

I think the hot chocolate capsules do provide a richer taste and are a nice occasional treat for the kids especially with frothy milk.

You can also order direct from Italy.

Works out $40 and free delivery if you use it with the $10 off and free delivery when you spend $50 [already posted].
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120399

You have to add something worth $1 though to make it $50

    • Excellent, thanks for the reminder. I just added a pack of capsules to get the $10 off and free delivery. It will be a starter pack! Delivery tomorrow so that is fantastic.

Also, being ozbargainers, here is a link to the Caffitaly page on 'Capsules Caffitaly Refillable capsule? How to refill your CBTL Cafissimo Capsules', enjoy!

The whole point of a capsule machine like this is the simplicity - it saves time and mess. If you want to save money, buy a proper coffee machine.

        • +1

My point was directed to 'ozbargainers' who may want to save a bit or who may have a problem with throwing away pods!!!!!! Get it. It was a suggested option for those who were interested - clearly not you.

        • Your "point" was pointless. About as much sense as buying dishwasher power to make your own tablets. It completely defeats the purpose.

    • That deal expired weeks ago.

      • lol on you.. it only expired yesterday…

It is hard to pass 40 dollars for a coffee machine.

Comparison with Aldi is confusing. I guess it is a personal choice rather than better or worse.
There are few complaints about Woolies machine that may break down (so, you can get refund or exchange it).

  • This machine looks good..

but i am actually considering this Nescafe DeLonghi Dolce Gusto for $89 delivered. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120172

anyone has opinion on which to buy?

    • +1

This one… The Dolce Gusto samples I have tasted were very poor.. Plus more expensive per pod

  • I bought 1 a few month back. Pretty good value for money but the bad thing is there are not many variety of pods that compatible with this machine.

  • +4

I can give a bit of a review on a few machines
I've own a kmart one (similar to this one)
    owned an aldi one
used a map one at a holiday house
and currently own a nespresso one

I have to say the nespresso one is better
the coffee that comes out is hotter, means the flavours are a bit stronger

  • What is the milk frother like?

    • Just use a handheld one I feel a lot better to control.

    • The milk frother is pretty good, makes decent froth and has heat only and froth only options. Just keep your receipt as the first one I bought stopped heating after a week and the button wouldn't work even though the light was lit up. I exchanged it for another one have had no problems with this one so far (been around six weeks I think). It's a single cup frother so if you'll regularly be making 2+ cups at one time, you might want to invest in a larger frother.

      • Just keep your receipt

Oh dear, you too? I'm on my third one. The motor stopped working.

The only problem with these (when they work) is that milk sticks/burns onto the bottom where the heater is and needs wiping.

        • I have a nespresso coffee machine and it occurs on that too. All you need to do after each use is simply get a long scrubbing brush each time.

    • +2

Buy the IKEA milk frother and heat the milk in the microwave. It is under $4

      • +3

While not a coffee drinker, having bought for my parents a coffee machine (Jura brand ~$1000), an aldi milk frother (~$25), and a hand held (2xAA battery powered ~$5) frother I think I have enough exposure to provide input on the way to froth.

The Jura is great if your wanting to make a huge continuous supply of frothed milk. You turn a dial, it pumps steam into an attachment and a tube into your milk container sucks the milk in, and frothy hot milk comes out the other side and continues to until you either run out of steam or run out of milk. Ideally suited to maybe if your making 10 cups of coffee for visitors at the one time. Clean up is a pain in the proverbial, as is setting it up if only making 1 or 2 cups..

The Aldi milk frother is rather good, barely makes a noise when working, and produces a super silky smooth froth. Clean up is not too bad but you cannot just rinse it under water as a milky skin is formed on the inside surface as the unit heats up, so you have to carefully clean the inside with sponge. Good for 3-4 cups and gives an impressive froth that neither the hand held or jura achieves.

The hand held frother is not too bad, and if you have a microwave is probably the easiest way to froth your milk. Warm it in a cup in the microwave (on medium so as to not burn it), froth it, watch is increase in volume and voila.. Clean up is relatively easy, dip the frothing end into some water and detergent and run it for a few moments. Use rechargeable batteries for best performance.

If someone does not own a frother, I would suggest the hand held as a way to get into it, as being the most cost effective (and you can use it as well for blending/mixing small volumes of liquids like scrambling eggs (if you like them somewhat frothy).. Then move up to a dedicated frothing unit if you outgrow it…

As a foot note, my parents kind of stopped drinking coffee with milk as it did not agree with them too much, so the milk frother is now used only once in a blue moon or when visitors arrive and parents want to impress them)

Just my two chocolate shakes worth

        • Aldi frother is an excellent one person unit. And if it wasn't for that little bit of milk scum it would be a 10/10. I was just a little surprised that you said it was good for 3-4 cups, maybe I drink latte ;) I upgraded to a Breville machine that cost about $130 and I have not regretted it. It does many cups of latte and super easy to clean.
I also don't mind using the stick ones but quality was hard to find.

      • -1

Why I got neg but he got +2 i am talking the same thing, handheld milk frother.

        • You may wish to ask the person who gave you a negative mark as to why….

Reading your post the impression is that your saying 'use something else', and while accurate did not provide any additional information to be valued as a viable alternative. As you know ozbargainers like a bargain so price is an important factor. Mathew may have said the same thing but he provided additional information such as how much they cost, where to get them, and how to use them (even if it is pretty obvious how to use one)…

          Regards

        • OK I am using this one only $4 but I got it as a gift from chemical warehouse. Also I am not using fresh milk just Coles $1 UHT milk because I found that they make less froth and more creamy with the handheld one.

I also owned the ALDI one but not using it anymore.

This is what I am talking about, the cheap one will do the job, no need to buy their Milk Frother.

Also to note, Twinings also makes Tea pods for Cafe Italy. I've got a Nespresso and a bought the Dolce Gusto when Coles had it for $49 and wish I had bought this one instead of the Dolce Gusto! Good value I think. The Dolce Gusto is a rubbish.

    • +2

Twinings also makes Tea pods for Cafe Italy.

tea pods make almost as much sense as hot chocolate pods (probably less when you consider the lack of steeping time for the tea)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Grabbed one delivered for $39 using the code :)

  • I'd buy one, but not too keen on $1 per pod :( (Unless someone can tell me where to get them cheaper).

I'd rather just heat milk in the microwave and add some chocolate.

This makes me wonder if this is 'printer gate' all over again!

Sell them the printer/coffee machine cheap and profit like crazy on ink/pods

    • Where do they cost $1 per pod? From memory a pack of 16 is about $6 for the Woolies variety.

      • REALLY! DAMN! Didn't know they were that cheap!

      • +1

$6.44 for 16 on their web site for the 'Select' branded ones = 40.25 c each.

        • -3

congratulations.. you now know how to do divisions.. kudos.. :D

  • Coffee pod/machine newb here…

So this is similar to Nescafe DeLonghi Dolce Gusto ($89 atm)?,
What are the major diff between this and ND DG?, more flavors with DolGusto? (this seems the case),
I have tried the Dolce Gusto hot choc & cappacino afew times while they had display/samples at local shopping centre,so i have a basic idea how they taste,i liked it.

I'm tempted with the NG DG,but am tight for $$$,so this is looks good as a start, but am I missing anything by getting this over Dolce Gusto Genio/Pico?
So $6.44 for 16 Wow Select VS $8.68 for 16 Coles Dolce Gusto range VS $? GJeans = which is about 15cents diff.
Can this do cold drinks like the Dolce?

    Again,thanks in advance for info.

    • +1

half regretting buying a genio now because of the lack of flavours/ease of finding pods…you have to use DG pods so your stuck with their brand..many shops do not stock even close to the full range..most just have expresso/americano…(until someone invents compatible or DIY pods that could be bought in australia at a reasonable price)

DG capp and hot choc (anything with milk basically) makes 8 cups as it uses two pods
so your 8 bucks for 16 pods = 8 cups

Genio is automatic and pico (i believe) is manual water levels…not really familiar with pico

yes can do cold drinks on DG (one of the draw cards that made me purchase) but i dont have the pods for it yet…..again…cant find easily

      • Thanks for the reply.

Yes your right, Genio is automatic and Pico is manual, so Im guessing this is also manual?
You have given a good reason to choose this unit over DG, due to easy access to pods and more range of pods.

But since Im only into Cuppacino & few hot chocs & dont drink black,I would need to get a milk frother aswell, another $30 :[
So $80,thats the same price as Map Presto Machine (HN) which has inbuilt steam wand…cant decide now….
Maybe I should wait for the Map one to go on sale?

Anyone know of a decent milk frother around $15-20?

        • +1

no this machine is automatic actually

it is true, some people cant stand the powdered milk
i don't really have much of an issue about it when its hot

the hot choc in the DG is actually the best thing about the system so far

MAP went on sale last year around xmas
if your not in a rush maybe wait to see if it comes around again

  • +1

Having used this one for a few months, I can say it's good value and a good machine.

But it just doesn't make it hot enough. Nowhere near in my opinion. Have gone back to a kettle and instant coffee for my fix.

    • i've never owned one of these before but i've owned some espresso machines so not sure if they are similar in making the espresso coffee. Given the issue you have, I leave the water boiled a bit longer (after the indicator light becomes steady and leave it for another 3-4 mins) before pressing the make espresso button. The coffee becomes hotter afterward and that's an advice that I've received from a sales person at a coffee machine Shop in Asia.

  • +2

The cheapest they have been is $29. They go on special for half price pretty often.

  • I have been using ALDI for over a year want to try something else, Nespresso is good but a bit too expensive in term of coffee and machine.

Is the pods better than ALDI? With ALDI I only use Pod 10 and 12.

  • -2

Hi there, just thought I' d mention that these machines were recalled recently, there was a fault somewhere ? Not sure what that was,but I do remember reading it. Just be careful what you buy

    • +1

I think you are referring to BIG W—La Cucina Capsule Coffee Machine where the defect was "Water may leak onto the electric parts of the coffee machine.
What are the hazards?" If the defect occurs, users may receive an electric shock during use.

The Woolworths S14 machine appears to be the same as the MAP Bella Coffee Machine which currently retails for $149 and previously was $199. I did this research last year when Woolies first released the machines.

  • +1

Ordered online just now. $10 discount plus free delivery codes worked a treat. Thank you very much OP

  • Do they have a decaf capsule for this coffee maker?

    • +1

Yeah they do. Its Woolies Brand Decaf.

  • Woolies online is down, ozbargained? :p

  • Okay, my machine was delivered on time, ordered late yesterday, so very happy with the price and the service from Woolies. Have just made my first tea and coffee. All extremely good. Very easy to use. Great bargain, thanks.

  • I've tried a $300 something nespresso one at the gfs (normally $500 something, on special) and the coffee tastes fine/good.Obviously this will be cheaper and hence quality less, but do any avid coffee drinkers find the coffee still great to try? We already have a perculator at home and I can do instant fine, so if it's going to come out similarly tasting then it beat sthe purpose of the coffee pods (being more exp, and its just as fast to make an instant for me).

Still, seems decent priced to try my first coffee pod machine. Can anyone tell us how much the gloria jean coffee pods are going for? And like the nespresso ones do these self clean/is the only thing you need to do is clean out the pod collection tray occasionally and refill water etc? Or do you have to dismantle and clean it like a proper coffee machine regularly?

The milk frother isn't included it seems - has anyone tried it, and if so how much is it and how'd you rate it to get a decent job done? : http://www.caffitalysystem.com.au/product-range/milk-frother…

Do the frothers just get sold at woolies too?

    • Are the frothers same price as instore? $29? saw they're $29 online, feel pressured to throw them in with the free shipping but how is it? Does anyone recommended it to get the job done or am i better off with something else as affordable/that lower end of the price that froths better? Not too fussed with fancy frothed milk as I usually just like my flat whites with nice , warm, well done milk than all the bubbles and fancy foam to it :)

      • The frother is sold at Ww (same brand) & are $29,afew bucks more than the Aldi one.
If the frother was half price I would get this, but I think I will wait until MAP Presto goes on sale.

Im surprise that no one knows of a cheaper frother as its only a basic device.
Yes I know you can use those cheap $5-10 handheld mix wire stick machine, I have 1 but cant find it.
It looks like a steam wand would be more versatile? (ie hot choc mixes etc) VS a frother machine.

        Cheers

  • +1

I bought one yesterday based on this post, so thank you. I'm very happy with it. The frother isn't bad at all. It is $29 on the shelf. I have bought the Columbian Espresso pods (Woolworths Select) and Gloria Jeans Caramel Indulgence pods and I'm happy with them. I have a great machine at home, but it takes a minimum of 5 minutes to make a coffee, plus at least 15 minutes heating up time, as well as the fact that it needs a substantial cool down in between making more than two at a time, so this is going to be a lot easier when we have guests over.

Really very happy for the price, happier than I would expect to be. Feeling guilty about the wastage of the pods though. And I realise how ridiculously expensive the coffee really turns out to be compared to using beans. Still, it's pretty good.

  • Thanks OP, Im still between this or to wait for the Map Presto to go on sale again, its draw card is a more compact unit with its inbuilt steam wand (I have limited space).

Anyone here own a Map Presto or similar model and has any feedback?

    TIA

  • Just grabbed one with a packet of capsules for $45.44 & free delivery - that Woolworths coupon (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120399) worked a treat! Cheers!

    • Just tried it and it's not working for me?! wonder if it's set on AEST, still 9:42pm WA time here! DRATS! trying to get the deal but may have missed out.. sigh that familiar disappointed feeling!

      • 29th OCT is the expiry date. You could buy the Aldi one for $79 any time.

  • -2

Just got the machine delivered today.. now thinking of returning them..

Might get a $89 Returns Card, if I pretend not to have the receipt..

    • why? I got mine a week or two ago, just popped it open last night and it wasn't as loud or crap as people made it out to be. I found the coffee ok, but it was too strong for my mum (got the dark roast gloria jeans capsule). But i've gotten the smooth classic blend and nicargua pods for her today from woolies so hopefully these might be better.

my only qualm is that 1) I don't have a milk frother and the one they sell in woolies at $29 is nearly the same as the machine (when it was sellign for $49). And taht indeed my capsule didn't fall/release into the tray when i opened the lever after use :(

  • Hi all! Finally cranked open the machine last night and used it! So far so good but being my first coffee machine can other users help me out on its use:

We don't use it everyday. It'd be a 'when we feel like it' thing, so at the moment it's sitting with no water on the benchtop.

Does the machine auto prompt you to prime every few days? If you leave water in the water container does priming then not need to be done?

How do people normally leave/store the machine when not using? I note that when i dried everything/removed the water container, the base which the water container sits on/water draws into still has a pool of water. It got me thinking - even if I dry the water container etc, isn't there still water drawn into the machien internally sitting there stagnant? I.e. if i drink every one, two, three weeks this water would be grossly stagnant inside, or cause mold/other nasties wouldn't it?

Are we meant to tip the machine and get the water to run out from inside? Which brings me to another question, are we meant to tip water down the capsule hole when open to wash out inside after use? Obviously every other part comes out but this area is part of a machine.

Forgive my ignorance. Just like my clean appliances and didn't want to leave mouldy parts around because I didn't know how to dry the insides/maintain the machine properly.

Descaling instrucitons are in the manual - did anyone get the descaling solution that's mentioned in their box? I didn't ? Or do we have to buy this? And if so does woolies just sell this?? And how often does descaling occur, after every 100 cups you'd estimate? or what?
