$40 extra.. worth it :)
But fewer 3D glasses. In the end the price difference is the same as an Android HDMI dongle.
But my TV is just a monitor for the HTPC, disc player, games console, etc,
A "smart" TV is just one more way for hackers or DSD, NSA, RIAA to break into my network. At least this one does not have a webcam.A "smart" TV is just one more way for hackers or DSD, NSA, RIAA to break into my network. At least this one does not have a webcam.
/me passes out the tinfoil hats to everyone :)
im the same tho, my ~15tb server is also my htpc, i have zero use for a "smart" tv. they are just a waste of space for most people with dedicated servers.
It always has me shaking my head in disbelief.
How can people seriously think that governments (like Americas that can't even support itself) can have the man power to monitor people sitting on couches. And why would anyone want to go to the trouble of hacking in to a webcam to watch what is most likely an empty living room.
If they wanted to know what you were saying on the phone then I'm sure that they could, but seriously we aren't big enough threats. Why would the American government care when I tell my wife to pick up some tacos and bog roll from the shops.
ignorance is bliss ;)
The truth is out there…

Not the place here for a debate on the Surveillance state. Maybe it just reminds me too much of the 1984 Telescreen.
But gratuitous proliferation of insecure "smart" devices makes it easier for hackers to penetrate your network, even if just for sending spam back out.
I admit that low-tech Nigerian and Roma scammers are more likely to use your webcam than the NSA.
Refresh Rate 50/60Hz … Isn't that kinda sucky for a 55" 3D TV?
Can't expect like branded tv at this price
i dont know why this is a presale, this is the same tv (same model number) as mine that i got almost a year ago now.
nice tv tho. the menus are a bit crap but it all works fine. tho mine was this price a year ago with free delivery.
WOW…. OMG
what a great price for a 55" TVPassive 3D means you can use any glass (the ones at the Cinema work and they're only about $2 each).
Picked up one if these earlier this year. Picture is great, but the interface and speakers are not so great. No problem for me, as I don't use the TV as a TV (just use it as a display). Turning on 3D is painful (about 6 clicks through the menu) as it is turning it off. Thankfully 3D is a gimmick and you'll stop using it in 3 weeks or less. I wish there was a discrete IR code for the HDMI inputs for my harmony remote. Oh and I'm blinded by the bright white 'Kogan' splash page when turning it on. Anyway I'm still very happy with the screen size and display quality for the price.
Does 3d turn on automatically if you use 3d Blu ray or does the tv not detect it and have to be set up?
I can't confirm as I don't use a bluray player, I use a BoxeeBox. My PS3 was intelligent enough to detect the 3D TV and activate it on my behalf for one downloaded game (Wipeout) but I haven't had the same success with actual disc games. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Can anyone else comment on Kogan 3D TV + bluray player?
(not that I'm keen on watching 3D again any time soon)
Wow that's not a bad price for 55" LED. Pity no smart TV or wifi
