  • Wasn't this deal already up earlier today?

    • Yes but it wasn't published because the deal was not yet active.

      • +1

        kinda stupid rules….

if the post was to wait a good deal until it's active, it may have sold out within 15mins
        so we(the OzBargainer) losing a good deal….. :)

        • +2

It's not a stupid rule. When these group deals started coming out OB was flooded with half arsed "deals" that never went active. This rule helps keep those so called "deals" away.

  • No that was the first time, it got taken down, then it became active and someone posted it again, which stayed up for a few hours, gathered about 10 positive votes, and a few comments… i purchased one, and now that deal has gone again :S very confusing… maybe the mods stuffed up and thought it still wasn't active..

    • Ok I wasn't aware of that, please delete if this is a dup. thanks

      • Well i don't think it is coz the original seems to have been removed before you posted this for some reason. So you should be right :)

    • Yeah it's crazy. You could order it through the product page for the $79 the whole time as if the deal was live. Maybe Mwave will have to contend with a bunch of extra orders.

    • Neither were active according to their deals page.

      • Yeah it was active from the product page. Hope they don't stuff up my order :/

        • Yeah Mwave may have stuffed up activating the $79 price a few hours early. As i said hope they're ready for a bunch of extra orders for $79.

  • I am running a Mushkin Callisto Deluxe 60Gb, supposedly has 275MB/s sequential write speed and 285MB/s sequential read speed, but it is now down to 2MB free space. Is it worth changing to this one but I noted this only has 200MB/s sequential write speed.

    • And with most files you probably will only notice a difference of a couple of seconds if that…

    • IOPS makes things snappy, Sequencial write makes the green bar move faster.

If you only have 2mb free on your ssd, no amount of speed can help you. Go upgrade, 75mb/s is a couple of seconds on a 40gb movie file.

      • Oops, my mistake. I meant to say only 2GB free space, not 2MB :P

      • What a good drive for IOPS? I just want a ~64-128GB SSD that is good for OS. I've got a 1TB HDD with movies.

        • +1

They're all good to be honest. Only synthetic benchmarks will tell ssd's apart or if you're running a commercial data centre.

Go for reliability - samsung or intel

If you're still chasing speed, don't look at different brands. Go look into pcie ssd's instead.

  • Has anyone dealt with Plextor when it comes to SSD drive returns and replacements?

    • +3

Yep, currently trying to RMA this exact drive. Do NOT lose your receipt or anything, RMA'ing is being extremely difficult, they dont have any Australian contact numbers/emails or anything. The RMA form does not list Australia in the drop down menu.

Note, my ssd dropped dead after a month. Currently getting my receipt re printed… (I cant just take it back because i bought it interstate).

      • Yeowch. Good luck with your RMA process!

    • +1

Make it Mwave's problem. They sold it, they're responsible.

      • Doesn't always work like that.

        • +6

by law, the shop's name on the reciept is responsible for RMA. In this case Mwave need to organise the return process

        • -2

Not if the product specifically states not to return to seller. eg. Corsair products

        • +4

Not if the product specifically states not to return to seller.

That's about as legally binding as (the manufacturer) stating that the customer can only get a RMA if they do the chicken dance.
If something is faulty the retailer is required to sort it out.

        • +3

They can write whatever they want, but it can't be any more punitive than your statutory rights, so those claims aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

I'm also confident Mwave will tread lightly with your returns considering their last run with the ACCC: Online retailer remedies misleading messages about warranties and refunds

      • Guys, if you purchased any products from Mwave and have any issues with warranty please remember to contact us so we can fix it. If its out of warranty still contact us, maybe we can come up with a solution for you.

  • Anyone know what controller and who's memory chip inside? lazy to search, thanks. And if share your personal experience will be great!

      an excellent marvell 88SS9187

      toshiba chips.

      • +1

thanks, I think better stick with samsung/intel

      • I believe it is using Micron chips instead of Toshiba, unlike Plextor M5-PRO.

    • +1

I have this drive, my brother has the samsung 840. Virtually no difference in day to day usage.
It's like saying comparing cars with their 0-100km/hr speed. 8 sec or 8.5 sec. Irrelevant unless youre testing it or punishing it.

Overall, pretty zippy drive. Nothing special given its probably very similar to every other ssd. Only thing is that plextor is stingey and didnt include any installing accessories such as screws and brackets

      • So I assume it doesn't come with any software at all? Samsung 840 EVO apparently comes with transfer software, very useful to transfer from old SSD to newer one.

        • +1

Nope. Absolutely nothing. It has a safety panphlet, the ssd and a bit of plastic. Quite literally, that was all.

      • There is no a 2.5 to 3.5 bracket in Samsung SSD package as well.

      • +1

the only difference between ssd drives these days is failure rates. Samsung and Intel are the top 2 ssd drive makers with the least failure rates.

  • Very good drive, bought it from the MSY sale a few months back. Can't recall getting accessories with any if the Crucial, Samsung or Kingston SSD's I've bought.

  • Easily the most epic ssd makers out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ3LkyP4SxA

  • Drats.. I tried resisting but bit the bullet and bought one.. Been a while since a 128gb SSD has been below the $100 mark so happy with the outcome…. 7 units left according to the site ….

  • just bought one myself :D

  • me too, still have 4 left

  • There are items in your cart that are unavailable. Please remove these before continuing. / Special offer is not valid

    Missed out by 1 minute..

  • Managed to purchase one, Was planning to buy a Samsung one for $108. Glad this deal came up, saved myself some money!!

  • Sold Out.

Going to LOL @ the 34 upvoters who are about to have their orders canceled or deleted. :D

  • +1

slow write speeds but the funny thing is not long ago i didnt think they were slow but now iif its not >500 im not interested but great for a OS bootdrive

but 120gb is NOT a lot of space if you install apps, especialy games so you need to

turn of hibernate (saves 8-32gb) with/from command prompt
move the swap file to the regular HD and turn OFF on the boot drive
turn the recycle bin to delete immediately for the SSD
run somehting like ccleaner after setup & clean all the service pack folders, backups ect as you can save another 5% doing this
oh, most important MOVE the home folders of doc's, video's, music, downloads to the HD!!!!!<must have a HD, SSD is not enough space!

Before doing this its easy to fill a 120gb, after you may have as much as 50% free depending on games (dam they fill an ssd fast)

  • I checked out the Mware Group Deal page and it said it was sold out. I refreshed the page and it said one was still available so I just purchased it. I wonder if they found 1 more in stock?

    • maybe someone cancelled?

  • +1

    Hi Guys,

Sometimes when the Group Deals get sold out and then you see it come back, is because customers either:

    1) Cancel their order, so the stock will come back for sale.
    2) We couldn't charge their credit card and tried contacting them without success. Then the stock will be put back into the Group Deal.

Hope this helps clearing the confusion.

    Cheers,
    Mwave

    • OK thanks for the clarification… lucky me!

    • anymore cancelled orders? :-P

      • No sorry =(, but do keep a look out for another amazing SSD deal on Mwave. Cheers

  • just got it today :P

    the drive works fine

but i cant seem to get it to work on my laptop (works fine on my desktop)
it exhibits really slow write speeds on my laptop, any suggestions on how to fix it?

    • +1

What model is your laptop? and what operating system are you trying to run?

      • lenovo t410, windows 7.

its ok though, just left it on my desktop :)

        thanks for helping out!

        • Sure no problem glad its going good for you =P
