  • anyone else not being allowed download via internode?

  • Looks like they've made them US only. I downloaded Rayman but tried it yet. The download worked then, but I can't access it now.

  • To download them from Internode:

    1. Find a US-based open proxy or any anonymise proxy based in US.
    2. Click on download, and it will give you an URL that will be valid for 2 minutes.
    3. Download it without going through the proxy (there's no country restriction on it). I am able to download the files at 1.2 MB/sec (on ADSL2+ sync at 12000kbps downstream).

Pulling all of them down now just in case this method stopped working :)

  • Who is your ISP, scotty?
I'd do the same, but I can't afford downloading 1.5gig worth.
I think I'll just wait till Telstra host the games.

    • I am on Exetel and downloading from Internode via PIPE so pretty fast for me. I am on a 12GB plan but usually download only 3-4GB a month so not too worry about the limit.

  • This just in. I went browsing the GameArena forums for more information…
Apparantly this is only available to those in the US due to legal reasons.
You need to have a ubisoft account with USA listed as your location.

    Person 1:
"my guess is that there are some legal issues regarding the software being used in Australia… hence the whole requirement to have your location set to USA on your ubi account (or so I'm told… I still haven't downloaded it yet…)"

    GameArena Mod:
"You are correct, Ubisoft have specifically asked us not to mirror the recently released free games for that exact reason. Apparently they've also asked a bunch of others sites to remove their links, but hey it's the Internet. Seems a bit silly to me really, but what can you do."

  • Well. The conclusion now is — don't bother download it from Internode. Or maybe I just have not worked out a way to play it.

After I have downloaded the binaries (almost 5.3GB), it asks you for Ubisoft username/password before the installer will try to install. However when I created an account and then put the username/password there, the installer still came back with a prompt saying

"Sorry, you must live in the U.S. to play this title."

And then they will send you an email to your registered email address:

"Thank you for downloading one of the promotional PC titles made
available for ad-supported freeplay over the Labor Day weekend. The
promotion is now closed and it is no longer possible to play the games for free."

    What the?!

Do note that my set up is about as US as I can be -

    • All HTTP traffic routes through a server in US.
    • Ubisoft account registered with US detail.
    • No default route on my notebook — everything through proxy.

The only thing that comes from AU is downloading the installation binaries from Internode's server.

Bummer. There goes 5.3GB downloading quota for me this month. Maybe I'll do some packet inspection to get through the installation stage but since I don't game much anyway, I think I'll just give it up. :(
