I know this is from Kogan but for the cheapest price, it is not a bad deal ;)

Have to agree, this is no deal, as it can be had cheaper elsewhere as mentioned above.
Kogan is not local stock anyway, and their service is practically the same as other e-tailer. Some EBay seller even provide better service than this so called local company…
Wait one month and it'll probably be <$700 Aus stock
Extremely unlikely.
Well, the Nexus 5 is being announced 15th or so and being released end of the month.
A price drop is certain. Now aus stock under 700 is most likely near impossible in a month - the Xperia Z ultra probably will be though.
Eglobal has it for $749 + $29 for shipping
coupon code CHK10 for minus $10so total $768

Some people had bought the phone from JB for $799. See WP forums.
As linked above, cheaper elsewhere and possible to obtain similar pricing from local shops for AU stock. Far from a "bargain".
Not sure how many people out there will agree with me, but I don't like the Aus stock for 1 simple reason, it has the mandatory camera shutter sound! Not that I am stalking anyone, but I don't like to let everyone know I'm taking picture of my own business!
Except that, I prefer Aus stock all the way even with a roughly 50 bucks premium on top. It will be worth it when it comes to warranty. I personally experience the grey import phone being broken, depending on issue, but very often you can't even fix it locally even you choose to pay the money.
One word.
Root
She might change her mind when she hears the camera clicking though…
Yeah okay that was poor.
Oh. come on! You are buying a top end phone, at least know how to use it.
the OS stock can have the sound disabled?
For note 2 yes, if you put it in vibrate or mute mod the sound will disabled
You are wrong. You can not do this for recent Australian stock Samsung phones.
Source: I own an Australian stock Note II and spent quite a while trying to find ways to disable the shutter sound when in mute or vibrate. Same goes for my brothers S4. You will need to root.
the OS stock can have the sound disabled?
OS= overseas stock
He asked about overseas stock and I answered him yes for that because I own galaxy note 2 overseas stock
There is no way to mute the sound with an Australian stock ROM when taking photos, even on silent. The programs that offer 'silent' mode to get around it don't even work as it uses the stock camera API. You can take photos while recording a video and they will be silent, but that's a really bad work around.
The better ways around it is to root and then either get another ROM, or disable the files (add a .bak to the end of sound filenames) for the stock ROM. I went with the latter, as both the root and disabling of the sound files are easily reversible in the case I need to make a warranty claim.
You can reverse root? Didn't know that, that would make rooting a non-issue as I've seen some comments saying not to root as it will void your warranty…
It depends on the rooting method. I used Framaroot which lets you root and unroot, within the program on the phone, with just a restart of the phone needed between.
It depends on the device and stock ROM as to what rooting methods may or may not be possible.
Cheers c0balt, very helpful :-)
it doesn't apply on iPhones though
With the note 3 being out anyone know any good deals on the note 2?
No need to upgrade. No difference.
No difference apart from all the new different features?
i've read some news on the region locking issue….. has anyone got an idea on this? thinking to get an import from Kogan or 1 of these online sellers.
As far as I know, The region locking issue only applies to UK, EU and US stock. THis doesn't apply to APAC stock
The AU Online sellers would most likely source their grey imports from HK/Singapore so you should be in the clear.
Cheaper for black one
