Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB LTE (4G) - $418.00

440

Hey All,

I just bought the Nexus(2013)32GB LTE model last week from Harvey Norman in the Sydney CBD for $438.00 and now they are offering it for $419.00! (Yes, they are giving me some money back) This is heaps lower than you can get it from Google Play right now.

Don't miss out on this. I love mine and use it every day. Quick and light.

24/10: Now $418 (Was $419)

Nice non-haggle price for both wifi and lte!

Exactly! I'm amazed how much I actually use the 4G on it. Other than JB Hi-Fi they are the only one's carrying it.

Bought one from Shopping Express before HN carry the LTE version, have been getting download speed of 35mbps on Telstra 4G network. Looks like faster than NBN under new Govt.

    • Shopping Express have it on their site for $399.00 but are out of stock. Shipping would probably be $20 if they did have it so no real savings.

lol. No need to get political - gets even more political :)

  • is it good price to buy ?

    • Very good. Google Play is selling it for $438.00 plus shipping.

I'm pretty sure it's free shipping. Would there be a difference in the returns process? Google store says go see Asus. I heard OW will do on the spot exchanges.

        • I've had a lot of luck with OW in the past but they don't carry the LTE variant.

        • no google store sends you a new one same day and you return the old one!

        • That's only within the initial period. 15 days I think.

If you have warranty issues this is what they say:

The Nexus 7 is manufactured by ASUSTeK Computer Inc., whose principal place of business is at ASUSTeK Computer Inc., Nr. 15 Li-Te Road, Peitou, Taipei 112, Taiwan ("ASUS").

ASUS provides a limited manufacturer's warranty for the Nexus 7. Please refer to the warranty card in the Nexus 7 package or ASUS for details on the ASUS limited warranty. This additional warranty does not affect your legal rights.

    • It's a very good price for the fact that you won't need to haggle.
Better yet, you'd probably be able to get a price match/beat from jb.

  • silly question (and flame me if you must)… but will it work on 3g?

    • +1

      yes.

will work on 3g if thats the only coverage

… resisting … to see what Apple comes up with this year. Hoping higher than 264ppi.

    • Good for you, I only managed to resist until Sep 10. When Apple only released iPhones, I caved in…

    • Me too. It's a pretty good package (but sadly not as cheap as in the US), but I went to look at the tablet at 3 JB hifis and tested the displays. 2 had light bleed from the top and the other needed to be reset as the digitiser had stopped responding. Hmmm…not a good start but I heard the LTE models have better QC. In a month the nexus 7 will probably be cheaper anyway.

      • Hmmm….never had any issues with light bleed or none responsive screen. Maybe the LTE variants are different.

        • Yeah that's what they were saying on the whirpool forums and on reddit. It's possibly because the LTE models were made later.

    • Yep, already resist to buy it. This tablet is 7inch in the end of the day its too small for what I want to do.

Also iPad 5 will 0wn this for sure. more PPI new design etc cost twice as much but its worth it. I would wait til November before buying anything.

I got android phone already why I need another same OS for tablet. Nothing I can't do on my phone except bigger screen reading PDFs

      I need variety!

Where'd you get the crystal ball and how much was it?

There is a point beyond which the human eye can't actually discern pixels.

I think apple claimed this with the Retina display (hence the term "Retina"), i'm sure you could go slightly higher pixel density but returns are rapidly diminishing at this point.

      • I don't know whether this is true, but I have heard that with the pixel densities going up it's become more difficult to manufacture and more likely to get quality issues like dead pixels. I'd be interested to know how much it accounts for that.

      • There is a point beyond which the human eye can't actually discern pixels.

Most printers are at least 600dpi, so, that's probably it. Additional problem with LCDs is their ~70% fill-factor which degrades viewing experience at low ppi.

It really depends on your eye-sight - 20/20 visual acuity by definition is "normal" (or average). Sort of like, 192Kb/s MP3 - which is OK for an average listener.

with the pixel densities going up it's become more difficult to manufacture and more likely to get quality issues like dead pixels

Even if we assume the probability of a crap pixel is the same, regardless of density, then by mere fact that total number of pixels increase in high ppi screens (Nexus7i is 1024000, Nexus7ii is 2073600) there's more likelihood of one.

        • DPI and PPI are not the same thing…

        • depends.. how far away can you hold a cheque (say the $30 norton cashback cheque) before you arn't able to read the microprinted text "SECUREPRINTSECUREPRINT"

If you can read it from 1/2 a metre then you need like 600ppi screen

    • other than apple and google, who else to look out for?

  • Just got back from Harvey Norman Sydney CBD and they just got stock in. Have 24 units in stock.

  • Sigh. Just bought the WiFi version the other day. Maybe I will have to gumtree my WiFi model and I'll grab the LTE.

    • I was tossing up getting the WiFi only model but I has SIM from Telstra that I needed to use so I caved. Good I did since the LTE has been brilliant.

I rarely use my HTC One XL other to make calls or SMS.

      • Yeah I don't talk on the phone much, mainly browse online. If I can sell the WiFi one I just bought, I will definitely get the LTE version (doubt there will be much interest for my WiFi one in WA though).

  • …oh and the battery life is great. I average 10+ hours with heavy usage.

    • I bought a Nexus 10 back in June but it was just too big and I sold it. 7" is a perfect size for holding and carrying around IMHO.

That being said the new Microsoft Surface 2 Pro's look interesting.

      • I agree 7" is the perfect size for holding and carrying around

        • Its ridiculously small.

        • Hard to put a 10" tablet in a pocket :-)

  • Please forgive my ignorance. Can you buy a 4G sim card to plug into this device? Where and how much (upfront or monthly plan)? Thanks in advance.

    • It varies dependant on the carrier. Telstra does 4GB for $35 per month on a 12 month plan. By far the best LTE network for coverage. DrOptus and Vodafail both have similar plans.

    • I think the best ones are the Telstra iPad 4G sins you can get from AusPost for $10/$15 and they include 3Gb of data.

Recharge is 180 for 18Gb over 12 months

  • F**k, I just recieved mine from the google play store, paid ~440 for it : (

    • $20 out of pocket? It might be time to end it all my friend…

    • thats $20 you couldve saved for retirement.

    $419 for a 7" android tablet? Are you serious…

You can buy a windows 8 tablet/laptop (with touch screen) for that price or even less. If you really need a tablet with 4g then it's better to buy ipad mini which you can pay by monthly. For instance, $419/24 = $18 per month for Nexus 7 + $35 per month for 4GB data plan(Telstra), you are paying $53 per month whilst you only have to pay $46/mth for ipad mini.

    • Some people like having an 4g tablet without being tied into a contract or having to worry about monthly payments. There are so many things you can do on android you cant do on IOS, so, different strokes for different folks.

  • Has anyone seen these in Perth? All the stores I checked on their website don't seem to have them.

I tried a price match with PLE (who have them in stock) but they only came down a few $ from their $439 price.

    • JB HiFi in Osborne Park had 5 of them and were willing to price match HN so I got one there.
