Dr Oetker Frozen Pizza 1/2 Price $3.49 @Coles

650

Never had it. Though there are fans of it based on comments in a previous submitted deal: The Doc Rocks! and Awesome deal for genuine Dr Oetker Frozen Pizza.

NOTE: The veggie/cheese based versions (Funghi, Mozzarella) are made in Germany. Any variety with meat in it (eg: Pepperoni) is made in Australia. Is that because of quarantine issues?

    Funghi for the win.

    Spinach (seriously) ftw

  • All you Dr.Oetker pizza connoisseurs out there, can you please tell me what the difference is between these Ristorante pizzas and these Papa Giuseppi's ones:

    http://drakes.indecat.com.au/?xml=parkinson#/?page=2&cat=0

Both are Dr.Oetker brands, but the ones at my local Drakes/IGA are only $2.99 each.

    • Yeah everything has been outsourced to the company behind Dr Oetker.

      • Hmmm.. I might give the Papa Giuseppi's ones a go then, since 2 of those cost slightly less than 1 traditional pizza from Dominos from the lastest coupon codes.

        • +2

Nah, Papa Giuseppi are pretty damned awful by comparison. Tried one a couple of months ago since they were re-badged with the Dr Oetker brand, just to see if there was any change, but it was just as bad as before.

The other frozen pizzas worth a go are the Emilia ones they sell at Coles. Supposedly hand stretched, wood fired and made in Italy. Different style to Dr Oetker (larger & thicker) but I enjoy them every bit as much.

The "When in Rome eat pizza" or whatever brand it is at Coles are bloody awful.

        • "When in Rome eat pizza"

Oh god, that shit was bitter! How the hell can a pizza be bitter??

        • when in Rome pizza was absolutely foul. the meat on it smelts like ammonia. sent complaint to the company and never received a response. Emilia is not much better either, frozen potato and odd tasting base, crap crap crap. Dr Oetker is the only one worth having if you absolutely must.

I don't even live in Oz anymore but I felt I had to log in to comment about the when in rome pizzas. Literally the worst frozen pizza I've ever had. It barely qualifies as food in my opinion. They had a facebook page at one point and I left them their first comment ever explaining them how bad their product was and how it was so bad it literally ruined my whole life. I never heard back from them.

It came out even worse than it went in too….

        • papa giuseppes arent that great. the only one i like is the coles branded pizzas…

        • Yea, bought a few to try this evening.. yes, agreed the Papa Giuseppi pizzas weren't very good. Definitely won't try that again.

I wonder if I should give the Ristorante range a go??

      Oxymoron hehe

The mozzarella pizzas are the best. They're delicious and at this price I am wishing I had a bigger freezer. Also, you can add your own toppings if you want to. If I'm not being lazy I'll often put on some mushrooms and bacon. Om nom nom.

Everyone raves about the pepperoni going by past threads. It's not so great though.

None of these pizzas are. But they aren't poor either. Full price is a ripoff, make sure to only buy when on special.

    • Yeah I think it's gotten worse. They also make the Papa Giuseppi's range. I actually prefer the vegie ones from Emilia brand on the rare occasion I have to eat frozen pizza.

    • They are ok imo. They are actually pretty good calorie wise for a pizza.

I like the spinach one myself.

Arnt they normally $5-7? thats a pretty standard price for frozen pizza as far as im aware.

        $7.40 at IGA I think

Buying in bulk and will open up my pizza restaurant like Gary Newborough who had food critics raving about the pizzas at the VIP launch of his trendy new restaurant - until he confessed they were in fact frozen and bought from a local supermarket. Check out this story at:

    • Hah… that's great.

We buy the Hawaiian (ham and pineapple) when on special.

The crust is thin and crispy style. They do taste a hell of lot better than the generic ham and pineapple pizzas, I'd also bet they are slightly less fattening given their thin base…

I prefer a fresh Dominos pizza, but these are handy to have in the fridge for times when you are feeling lazy and don't want to pickup a pizza or pay an exorbitant markup for delivery…

    • What kind of sociopath eats, let alone pays for, Hawaiian pizza??

      • I don't get it. I eat Hawaiian pizza all the time. Especially the re-jigged Dominos traditional supreme pizza into a hawaiian pizza so there are more toppings.

  • Damn, sold out at Burwood (NSW) Coles.

    • +2

The offer week's only started, can they not give you a rain check? Too many OzB'ers in Burwood?

    • Tried to buy but still won't positive vote the deal???

  • +1

Weren't they originally made in Germany or Italy, but now in Australia? Although I felt guilty buying frozen pizzas shipped from Europe the fact is Australians make rubbish ones (usally the bases are the problem).

  • +3

The real Doc Oct pizzas are made in Germany and are the best you can get in a frozen pizza imo, those Papa Giuseppi things are garbage made in Australia. A bit like cars :P

The Mozzarella and Pepperoni ones are very tasty for a frozen pizza. Great price at tree fiddy.

My local Woolies has a "pizza bar" where you can get them to assemble a pizza for you with your choice of toppings and sauce. 6 toppings is $6 for an 11" pizza.

I've tried one, tastes nice but for some reason I found it really filling.

  • can you microwave it instead of oven it?

sorry, i have never eaten a frozen pizza before, due to Dominos keep having $6……….. since this one is 3.50 and i don't have an oven at home…

    • +1

If you like a flaccid, soggy pizza… yes. :)

    • according to the website, you can't.

    • Sandwich press it, gets the base crispy and heats the pizza straight through. Faster than oven.

      • Interesting.. how do you prevent the cheese and toppings from sticking to the top of the sandwich press?

        • +2

If your sandwich press has settings for varying the height of the top hotplate, adjust it so it barely touches the top of the pizza, otherwise improvise and use a clothes peg between the handles of the press.

        • cut the pizza in half and put the tops facing each other in the press.

          pizza toasted sandwich.

I did some snooping last week when they were on special at IGA - the Spinach, Funghi, Mozzarella pizzas are the ONLY variety made in Germany, the rest are now made in AUS. Im usually all for buying local, but I'm pretty sure the German varieties would destroy any of the local varieties (Hawaii, Pepperoni etc). Im gonna stock up on Spinach; my fav.

these are the best frozen pizzas

  • -7

Omg worst pizza ever! There is not 1 good frozen pizza brand!!
