Thanks but I've already seen that.
I'm after the depth measurement and I'd like to see the rear of the unit to see the crossover componentry and if it has a back can (doubtful for that price). It obviously isn't going to be an audiophile grade device but I just want to make sure it isn't complete junk before I spend the dosh.
The RRP is misleading. Selby Acoustics is where you want to go for great speakers at awesome prices. They are on ebay as well or direct on their website. You can buy poly cones or kevlar threaded cones etc. This is just advertising.
Agreed it's best not to believe the RRP however I DO believe these could've been worth around the $100 mark so for $49 including postage they could be pretty good… but I'm not jumping until I see more of them/get more info!
I collect Hifi gear and have some very valuable speakers & amps in my collection but it always amazes me how good some of this cheap stuff can be in comparison so don't discount it straight away just because it isn't worth $1000, isn't rated at 500W and doesn't have fancy yellow carbon fibre cones! I recently performed an experiment with some friends, I sat them down for some blind tests of speakers just for a giggle. They all preferred the sound of a cheap pair of generic brand 'white van' floor standers to that of my Studio Monitors or my Electrostatics worth many thousands of dollars each. I even enjoy their sound and they are great all-rounders but they obviously can't compete in the absolute nit-picking purist clarity stakes when compared to the others but to be honest you'd need to spend more on treating the acoustics of your room to really make the most of finer details like that so there's no point for most people.
I do like the Selby stuff though, great bang for buck indeed!
