Free Vodafone Modem or Mi-Fi for Crazy John Broadband Customers (with 3GB Data!)

90

Sadly, Crazy John's prepaid phone & broadband is ending BUT Vodafone is offering CJ broadband customers a FREE Extreme K4605 modem or Extreme Pocket wi-fi. Offer ends 31 August. The K4605 is a premium device and well worth getting, ditto the WiFi Extreme.

Here's the spiel: Bring your Crazy John’s device with you to the Vodafone store by 31 August 2013 and we’ll give you a free device plus a free Vodafone SIM2 with 3GB welcome credit (30 day expiry).

If your old device was a USB Modem, we’ll swap it for a Vodafone USB Extreme Modem. Got a Crazy John’s Pocket WiFi®? We’ll swap it for a Vodafone Pocket WiFi® Extreme3.

  • This kind of doesn't make sense - so where would I get a crazy john's pocket wifi for cheap?

    • +1

It's if you already have one.

Thanks OP- I have one sitting in my cupboard, and I might as well swap it for a Vodafone modem with free credit. Wish I'd known about this sooner though as I might find it hard to get it swapped over before Aug 31 :(

      • make sure you go to a Vodafone store located where a CJ's store used to be, only those stores are authorised to do swaps.
If your local store never had a CJ's near by then they have not authority to do swaps or deal with CJ's offers, they can port you from CJ's etc but no freebies can be offered.

You also need to transfer your Crazy John’s mobile broadband service number to Vodafone Prepaid.

  • +1

I did this, can confirm you simply need to exchange your CJ's device and a current service number to port.

  • Note, “We’ve got you sorted with 3 GB welcome credit plus bonus data on up to your first 6 eligible recharges”

This is worth doing: Upgrade & debrand K4605 modem (but buy unlock code)
    http://www.rosil.si/blog/upgrading-vodafone-k4605-huawei-e37…

Unlock K4605 online in 5 minutes for $1.70
    http://ebay.eu/12GFuqs

Modems cover 850/900/2100 MHz 3G+ bands ie all carriers.

    • Can these actually be used with other carriers?
Vodafone used to have absolutely HORRIBLE software in their USB modems that took a huge dump all over your computer and were impossible to add foreign APNs etc even when unlocked.
      Horrible, horrible software ;p

Yes, it loads VMB Lite when you plug in the USB modem, but if you follow the link in my post, you can easily replace this with unbranded Huawei Mobile Partner dashboard. Much easier to navigate! Use with any carrier once you unlock. The K4605 is actually a customised Huawei E372 modem.

      • The vodafone modems do not install any software now.
U plug it in and ur browser opens and it goes to a management page where it is already connected and shows your signal bars etc..

And the Modems can not be unlocked for free.. its $75 in first 12 months
        $25 after that.

  • i have a crazy johns USB modem
can i just take that (dont have the sim card)into vodafails store and exchange for there usb modem?
i threw out the sim when i heard they cancled the contract with vodafone.

    • Thats the question. Do we need an active CJ's SIM?

      • me too

i have one of those blue pill looking usb jobbies

would like to piss it off for a wifi extreme

        • The Pitt St. store in Sydney they opened the device and took note of serial no./barcode but did ask for the SIM card & I'm guess they did/would not care as they issueed a starter kit with 3GB with a new phone number. When I asked how long I have to activate it, they told me they already had.

        • +1

Woops, I mean they did NOT ask about/for the SIM.

  • 31 August is Saturday, after that big nothing?

    • The service will d/c at 12.01 am saturday night, then you can port your number within 7 days after that.
You will not get a freebie if u switch after this date

  • Slightly off topic but… Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing terrible / unusable mobile coverage after Vodagroan gobbled up Crazy John?

WARNING about the USB modem model. The first Sydney city Westfield store I went to tried to give me a K3773 - a lesser/slower one without microSD slot. I had to stop them and asked for the "white" modem and they told me they did not have any left. So I went to the Pitt St. store and they tried to the same but I asked specifically for the K4605 in the offer and while they did not have any, they supplied a K4606 which they told me is newer so I took it and that turns out to be true. I hope it can be unlocked easily/cheaply.

    • Correct the K3773 does not have a micro SD slot, but WRONG.. it is not slower it is the same rating and speed as the other device mentioned.
They are BOTH 850MHZ devices capable of running at up to 42MBS on the 3G+ network.

    • Yep! First they told me they could only give me a black one (K3773), which they didn't have in stock, and I'd have to go to another store. I don't think so!

I just pulled up the web page (on my non-Vodafail phone) and when presented with that, they said OK and swapped the device for a white one (K4605). Staff said that the K4605 was only given to "plan" customers, but agreed that if that was the deal, then that was the deal.

      Shame they didn't have any of the 4605's - I might have scored a 4606 like @samlor!

I can confirm that the 4605 doesn't have a MicroSD card slot.

I did have to surrender my (useless) CJ blue pill box - and SIM.

      Good luck.

  • I have a CJ account and modem, but the mobile number has expired. SOL?

    • Not necessarily, see my other/previous message. I had the blue CJ 921T USB modem on prepaid but had not used/recharged it for a long time. Besides the device itself, all they seem to want is the mobile number so if you know that, then I suggest trying your luck, if you can be bothered.

  • I have a vodafone pocket wifi. Can they tell the difference between Crazy Johns Pocket Wifi and their own?

    • yes.. The IMEI numbers are checked in a database, if it comes up on the voda one they will not switch it
