I remember a few UFC cards ago, in Las Vegas, Bruce Buffer was announcing the main event. Before the fights start he says the usual "sponsered by Bud Light"' then he was said something like "brought to you by Big W Australia". Which dummy from Big W thought that was a good marketing move?

Let's hope those aren't the Tim Sylvia model.

whats wrong with ufc/mma? lol its good sport to watch and the athletes are very dedicated, its also quite technical sport.

    • -2

There is nothing wrong with MMA.
We have some comedians here that think it is funny to make the exact same joke in every single related thread.
They think it is douche-y to wear the gear, but they are infact the ones showing their colours.

      • +2

but it is douche-y to wear it, that's the point ;).

MMA is ok to watch/support (I dont mind it actually, good to see different styles match up against one another), but walking around with logos from TapOut or UFC etc is definitely bogan material.

I never said I like the branded clothing, because I don't.
That's not the issue here, it is the people blindly hating on the sport.

        • +4

          That's different!

People look at the "cage" and instantly think Mad Max, but for those that havent watched it…. seriously, flick it on one time.

When you realise its not corrupted or fixed like boxing can be, and one dimensional like a karate tournament, it's very interesting to watch the different martial arts go at it.

Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and that's where the strategy comes in folks.

    • -5

It's barbaric, it's backwards and it's just plain bogan.

Bruce Lee was a Bogan? News to me….

        • +3

Bruce Lee was a master, but didnt need to walk around with a shirt saying "Kung-Fu Masta" to prove it.
Real bad boys dont need to advertise to the rest of the world how tough they are. They just are.

I like MMA, but dont need to advertise it.

      • +5

I take it you've never even seen the sport.
Why don't you take a look at what the sport actually is? Instead of just insulting anyone who appreciates it.
Rampantly spouting slurs founded only by your own ignorance is what I would associate with being a bogan, my friend.

      • +2

That's an ignorant statement. Of course there will be the few MMA fighters that act arrogant - but that's not the case with many of the fighters. Why make such a comment when it doesn't even sound like you watch the sport?

That's like me generalising every person who drinks alcohol is a bogan.

        • But unfortunately its not the fighters that act arrogant, its the fans who think they are fighters that act poorly.

    Satin boxer shorts? Really?

  • UFC boxer shorts (and all the other Tapout, UFC and MMA clothing) screams bogan and overcompensation to me!

    For try hards only imo.
I guess it'll appeal to all those super tuff guys who walk around with Tapout and UFC clothing like it somehow makes them "mean". You know the ones, those ones who hang around the shopping centre because they havent got jobs or school to go to, with their jeans or adidas trackies sitting waaaaaay too low to be neither practical or comfortable.

Yep… now I've peed myself thinking about it. Scary.

If someone is going to judge a brand based on the people that champion it, they'll never buy anything.
There are always going to be bad apples that ruin it for everyone. They get the most attention too.

There was a ferrari merchandise deal posted recently where people were enjoying talking about how much they liked the cars. There are certainly a lot of unlikeable people who own ferraris, or even just sport the gear and pretend to.
This is where I don't understand the flat out distain for these posts, how is it any different?

      • True.

Yeah, but if someone owns a ferrari (or wears a shirt) its not a threat.
Wearing this type of clothing 'sets a mood' or a veiled threat that you are not to be messed with.

It's like mini boxing gloves hanging from the rear vision mirror, or offensive stickers on the back of your car. You're pretending to the rest of the world that you are bigger than you are (like a peacock and his tail feathers ;)).

But unlike a peacock, it's drawing attention to yourself for all the wrong reasons.
Wearing a ferrari shirt or any other non threatening brand is ok. But unfortunately, there are those out there that tarnish brands by the way they act when wearing it.
Ferrari fans dont turn into immature animals when they ware in that clothing.

But from first hand experience, I've seen plenty of dumb kids (and adults!) wear this clothing and think they are untouchable and that rules dont apply to them (and god help you if you question their self imposed authority).

I see it every day mate. In these types of instances, judging a book by its cover (or clothing) is quite accurate.

If you want to distance yourself from someone wearing a sporting brand related item, that is your business.. But preconceptions are a dangerous thing too.

    • +3

From someone in the industry, I'll agree that the Tapout and UFC gear is a little overwhelming nowadays.

However, keep your stereotyping to yourself as some of you here may not know, some of us in here are actually sponsored by Tapout (yes, even in Australia), and are under contract to wear their promotional items whenever/wherever possible.

  • Was $12.92 wtf

    • Agree cdaddy that was already cheap…
