  • I saw that remote earlier, but I think it was $5 shipping which killed it for me.

    • Agreed. $14 on the two items I wanted. Doesn't make them so cheap after all.

I would think these are worth a look for the price:
    Onkyo network Receiver - http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%20theatre/amps-receivers…
    Sherwood 7.1 Receiver - http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%20theatre/amps-receivers…

    • Excellent price on the Onkyo

    • I was looking at AV Receivers in JB on the weekend. Sales guy told me to steer clear of Sherwood. Something about them being slow. </truestory>

      • +9

And JBs sales staff are definitely the most knowledgable in the business…

        • +4

Their piercings and tatts must be getting to their head loll

      • Hmmm you have me interested in that Onkyo. But they're going for US$169.99 on eBay (shipping to US only)

    • Count me intrigued on the onkyo. How much do they go for normally? Do they have good reviews?

  • +1

Thanks, I needed another one of these remotes, just what I was looking for thanks :)

Are these any good? Sennheiser HD438 Over-Ear Headphones $60.20 inc shipping. Looking for some headphones for the wife to use while practicing the piano. Thanks in advance.

    • I made a comment below with some links to good reviews.

These should be way overkill for just practicing piano.

      • Great thanks for the advice and links. I'll give them a miss and get some a bit more basic. The promo must be to compete with Click Frenzy.

    • Is your practice that bad?

  • Hmmm, cant find any info on that onkyo amp having pass through for its HDMI,

    • +2

      Aaaand it does

  • Hmmm, I need a new budget receiver.

Got a 5.1 setup, which of these receivers would those in the know buy? I really don't know a lot about home theatre so would appreciate some help from those that do.

    I have the following speakers
    2x Dali Blue 2002
    1x Dali Blue C1000
    2x Jamo Cornet 40 IV
1x Dali Subwoofer, cannot see a model number

The price difference between these isn't important and 3 hdmi ports is enough for me. Is the Onkyo a better amp for the money?

    • +1

I'd recommend the Onkyo brand over Sherwood anyday.
The TX-NR414 has more features, but if you think you'll want extra speakers in the near future, then the Sherwood is up to you.

      • Thanks, I bought the Onkyo

  • Can you use Coke Rewards eGift cards for these Factory Scoops?
I don't see an option to pay by gift card.

Edit: nevermind… it's working now. PEBKAC

  • I've been eyeing off the JVC KWDB70 for a week or two now… it seems the minimum price of DAB car radios is around $200, so this was already a good deal at $168 + $18 postage. When I saw this with another $34 off I got it right away, great timing :)

I was a little hesitant about it not including bluetooth, but have since discovered you can get bluetooth recievers for ~$10 on ebay, so with this radio's rear AUX in I'll be able to add that in nicely!

  • EX-2F gone?

  • Does factory scoop mean anything like refurbished or factory seconds?

Does anyone have the Onkyo 414 receiver?
There's no automatic speaker config man!!! Which receiver these days doesn't have MCACC or audyssey!

I just started shopping around for my first AVR and don't know if this is a really good bargain for a good receiver or I should wait for end of year (I don't mind)

414 seems to be missing a few features I would like to have, like Auto Audio Calibration of some sort, and Airplay would be nice.

    What do you guys think?

    • +1

I really like my tx414, its my first AVR too. Heaps of HDMI inputs, sounds great, ARC too which allows your compatible TV to send audio down the same HDMI cable as video comes up.

The only gripe I have is the poor network menu. I mainly just use xbmc for this stuff though. Occasionally I will just stream some tunes via DLNA which it does no worries.

Would definitely recommend it to anyone who has a htpc to make up for the above shortcomings.

      • Thanks for that,

which speakers are you using it with?
I would like to buy the Jamo S 426 next time they're on special or something as good as them.
Don't you hope you had an automatic sound calibration feature sometimes?

I wonder if I can buy this now and test it out, if it's not to my liking could I take it back?

  • +1

    Samsung EX2F still shows $264.

    • Starting to think that's the discounted price, save $135?

Goes for $351 cheapest on eBay so $135 would seem like too good of a deal. Not sure if I want to buy or not at $264..

  • +2

Thanks, bought the Sennheiser HD438 headphones for < $61 delivered.

Amazon has good reviews (at $60 plus shipping):
    http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD438-Circumaural-Headphone…

And CNET Australia says they are pretty good value at $150:
    http://www.cnet.com.au/sennheiser-hd-438-339299285.htm

    • I'm hoping there is truth to the alleged good bass response of these; I've been suckered into enough Sennheiser deals that have given me cans with tinny/treble-heavy sound.

      • Reviews say the bass isn't really lacking, but probably not especially bassy for this kind of headphones.

    • I'd say that CNET Aus are being ridiculous, no way those are good value at $150!!!

  • Thanks. Just ordered the Onkyo receiver… appears to still be available even after midnight. Thankfully as I didn't finish work until then, and it would suck to miss out. Only feature it is missing that I wanted is Airplay… but with 6x HDMI ports I'll survive. :-)

    • Get this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/113991 . This will give you both sound and picture and is much more versatile than being built into the receiver itself.

    • Onkyo still available at 20% off.

      Edit: spoke too soon, gone

  • I see this on JB's site all the time, but down actually know what "factory scoop" means. Is it stock that JB has "scooped" up during some other company's liquidation? Or are they factory seconds? Both?

    • +1

It's a marketing term, used for marketing purposes.

      • Hmmm true. I have always found it to be quite market-y.

  • Does the Onkyo have audio standby pass-through?

  • doh the onkyo is back to $396 again :/

  • Harmony 200 now showing as $15

  • iPad case was $8 last night, today it's gone up to $10. Should I neg it for this reason?

    • No, that's not a valid reason to neg especially since the poster has already made clear it was only meant to go until midnight yesterday.

I can confirm that $10 + $5 shipping is the standard price though.

      • -1

Ah ok didn't note the till midnight…

        • +3

What about the big EXPIRED on top? :-p

  • never buy online from JB ever again, the postal service is bad…… you missed it, you have to collect from some strange far away place….

    • +2

How is that different to ordering anything else online and having is delivered through Australia Post?

    • You mean… if you're not at home when the courier tries to drop off your parcel and it gets sent back to the Domestic Terminal?

That goes for any interstate or overseas deliveries unless you have specifically instructed them to leave the delivery at your doorstep and no signature is required (non-registed shipping).

I ordered Diablo 3 from JB last year and it arrived on launch day around 3PM. I call that fairly respectable service.

    • Everything I've ordered has been on my doorstep within 48 hours (usually closer to 24-36 hours)
      And I'm in rural Victoria

  • I received my parcel after having to have it redelivered, but upon getting it I find that it has previously been opened. There was no clear packaging on the remote/manuals etc. which were just loosely packed. Normally come in a little plastic bag.

The foam was broken, the receiver wasn't even wrapped properly. The box itself had plastic tape covering a label that looked like it was removed. I feel very ripped off. I didn't think I was buying a used/returned product. I thought I was paying for a brand new item. Nowhere did it say that it was used… atleast not that I saw.

    • So much for them being brand new
      But yours works OK right?
I'm very happy with mine and it's OSD menu from the 70s…
Now that you mention it, the foam in mine was a little broken, but otherwise all the packaging looked normal enough.
Did yours come with any other surprises?

  • It works perfectly fine. Also noticed after that post that it actually had a sticker on the top of the receiver. Looks like it was the display model from instore. But my local store has recalled one from another store and I will be changing it over when it arrives.

It's a great amp. I would even be satisfied with what I paid for the display model. Very good value.
