  • just ordered one online for a friend should've grabbed from jb hifi

  • I've only ever had post-paid accounts so here goes my dumb question.

If I bought 12 of these would that cover me for a year's use ?

    • +1

You might have to port out and back in 12 times, change your name by deed poll and/or have 12 different numbers.

    • Yes, but to keep your number you would have to port out (say to a $2 sim) and port back in. Or you could just change your number every second month.

      • So really that's a no from a practical point of view.

I presumed the account could simply be recharged using each $40 Boost pack.
Guess I'll stay with my 49cap.

        Cheers

        • You can't use a starter pack to recharge. Would have to buy a $40 voucher or recharge for that.

      • What if you only cared about the data? Would $20 for 3GB for 30 days on Telstra 3G be good value if you could conveniently continue to use new activations?

  • What about for data usage can these be put in a 3G USB?

    • You can tether from an android but not from an iPhone. Never tried a USB though.

  • .

  • I'm on a Telstra contract now but it doesn't expire until the first week of October… anyone know if I can buy this now and activate then?

Yes yes I could just go to a JB store to ask, but that costs money (petrol) I'm just staying true to the Ozbargain spirit =P

    • the one i bought a few months ago expired in mid 2014.
its a starter pack at half price, so they generally have a decent length of period before they expire. so go grab one, just look on the back and confirm the date to be sure

    • They don't expire for a year or more. Just buy online on boost website. Save petrol

      • Thanks and thanks to both of you.

And lol yup if it's free delivery I'm going to get it online. :D

  • "Backed by the reliability of Telstra and JB Hi-Fi"
What does JB HiFi got to do with Boost other than sell the cards?

  • Porting to Aldi due to Kogans collapse .. Thinking of getting a spare Boost sim while its half price as Aldi's future is also not certain with Telstra.

  • The $20 deal has an ongoing cost of $40 per 30 days for unlimited calls etc. The $20 sounds like a sweet price, but over a 12 months period the $35 per 30 day aldi deal with 5gb of data, is a better deal. Aldi and Kogan were both customers of ISPone a former Telstra wholesaler, however Aldi stuck a deal with Telstra and Kogan did not. Once we were Kogan mobile and now we are now Aldi mobile customers.

    • However, if you after full NextG speed and coverage, the Boost deal is better. Only thing missing is 4G.
Also got to say I was very impressed with the customer service.

Can the credit be used for Play Store purchases?

  • Fun fact: A 50 dollar prepaid telstra recharge is $42.50 at Coles Express with that 15% atm voucher for example allowing for 3.8gb of data if you buy a 3gb data pack. You get $950 for calls and text etc. Unlimited calls abd text 6pm to 6am. You also get full 4g telstra.

    • Plus, whatever money you have left over from the $50 recharge (if you don't buy any data, txt or talk packs) can be used in the Google play store to buy movies, music, magazines, books and Apps !!

Plus dont forget your recharge amount rolls over every month as long as you recharge it before it expires.

  • Are these sim packs half price at coles/woolies as well, or is it just post offices and a few select stores/servos?

  • Dick Smith are also selling these for $20 (but it looks like they only have the standard SIM size, not the micro SIM one).

    • Dick Smith do have the micro sims in stores for some reason it is not on their website, but they definitely have them. I bought mine from there a few days ago and it was half price.

JB Hifi supports PayWave so if you buy in store (instead of online) and use your ING card, you will get an extra 5% off bringing it down to $19 for the first month.

    That's what I intend to do ;)
