Specs wise: for the money (it has HD display, waterproof, and DustProof), it's pretty good. plus haier is a big name in consumers electronic in China. Cheapest I find on the internet atm.

DAMN that's some good specs! Any idea of the SAR rating?

  • +1

Looks good, probably cheaper than replacing the screen on my Lumia 820…

Is it able to access the play store or no? I recall many cheap chinese Android phones weren't able to access the official Play store.

  • +1

i would buy the THL W100 quadcore for $20 extra. a lot of bad reviews for focalprice.

    • +1

W100 is $40AUD extra. I would pay $80AUD more to get a W200 to be honest.

  • +1

Probably not the best user review. You'd be better off watching some YouTube clips of it being used.
Seems like a decent deal though.
I'm not savvy when it comes to the network bands, any idea if it will work with Aussie networks?

    • Only partial support of telstra nextg. (supports 2100Mhz, but not 850Mhz). So it won't work on a lot of telstra towers. I know mine has only 850 coverage.

  • +2

The specs say 1280x720.. That is definately not full HD display. Plz change the description.

    • +2

That's another marketing "trick"… HD display, not "Full" HD display. Anything that's 720p is HD according to marketing…

An important question is how is the 8GB ROM setup. It's better not be a 1GB phone storage + 6-7 GB or internal SD… coz. that's pretty useless in today's standard.

  • Spec shows resolution it to be 1280x720. This does not have Full HD display as quoted in the first line of the description. You may have it confused with Full HD camera.

  • Battery Built-in 1760mAh battery

Any idea of battery time on full charge

    Also battery is not removable

    • +1

Talk time 4 hours, standby time up to 200 hours. Non removeable battery is probably the fate of being waterproof and dustproof.

      http://www.buysku.com/wholesale/haier-w910-msm8260a-dual-cor…

      • more interested in battery time with wifi and/or 3G on for ~ 12 hrs/day

    • That battery is a shame :( If it had a larger battery I'd order one straight away

      • for a dual core, probably enough. A HTC Velocity 4G (identical specs) only has 1400mah and lasts for a day with average usage.

  • +2

I just got the Tronsmart TS7 Glacier 4.7inch HD Screen MTK6589 Quad Core Smart Phone 1G+4G 12.6MP. FOr $150AUD seems decent for the specs and it has a 2200mAh battery. See how it is when I get it. (Htc one clone and compared to the w200 it is thinner and higher batt capacity- but smaller screen and processor).

    • Only 4GB ROM? That won't take long to fill.

      • +1

With latest jelly bean 4.2.1 most app can be moved to sd card. Just like Thl w100

    • +1
      • Loving the blatant HTC One design ripoff. If only it didn't have that hideous Tronsmart logo emblazoned across the back.

      • How come all the AU prices on that site are cheaper than the US prices?

      • Anyway thanks, I just ordered one. Looks good and cheap enough to give a it a go (first Chinese phone).

        • no problem, let us know how it goes when you receive it. Im still checking which one to get as my spare phone :p

        • So the 'Tronsmart TS7 (4gb)' arrived from geekbuying.

          Pros:

          • very nice screen, great veiwing angles & colours
          • decent camera, haven't looked on a big screen yet
          • easy to root
          • after root easy to remove the few (~4) pre-installed apps
          • dual sim
          • minor update provided(I think)
          • really loud speaker

          Cons:

          • really loud speaker, I usually listen on the lowest setting, and it's still pretty loud.
          • battery life so far is pretty good
          • despite being a HTC one clone, it is slightly smaller so cases etc are not compatible (comes with case anyway)
          • no otg, mhl or usb + audio out support (afaik), no biggy but nice to have had
          • the touch buttons have a pretty week backlight, also no config options for this
          • no rural Optus 3g support, I barely got 3g before anyway. I'm gonna chuck in an Aldi sim and see how it goes, benefits of dual sim :)
        • Thanks for the review. Very informative.. Pretty sure good battery life is not a con :P

        • lol whoops

        • Adding onto that review;

          Cons:

          • the volume with headphones is way too loud on the lowest settings (just like the speaker). The volume slider does not give you the level of granularity you need to finely adjust. It is possible to hack this which is something I will attempt shortly. Alternatively Fine Volume Control might work for some people.
        • I got mine as well. It's a decent phone so far, except the gps is a bit poor and it does not have magnetic compass, so you cannot see the direction on google maps :(. Battery life is quite good at the moment. It is on 50% in 2days with wifi always on and gps testing every now and then. Also there's no notification light indicator which would have been nice. If you wanted 3g in rural areas you should have gotten a 900/2100 phone as this one is 850/2100.

        • Good to know :) For no notification light indicator, there is an app called noled in Playstore. You may want to try it out.

        • Yeah I took a look at it but thinks it takes up a fair amount of ram (and not sure how it impacts battery life). I would rather the custom roms that light up the home and back buttons when there's a notification. Maybe if there's rom development.

        • that will be nice if someone could make an app for it :)

        • I just tried 3 different notification on the screen apps and noled seems to be the best one (has most features) but uses around 70-80mb of ram.

The last 15% of my battery seems to have drained very fast as well.

      • I am curious with these phones whether it may be feasible to have such a setup. SIM1 as 2100/data(primary card) with SIM2=850/Aldi Payg Voice+"disabled" data. ~That is. best of both worlds. Can you switch data off on one of the cards?

        • Yes, (on the Tronsmart TS7 (4gb)) there is a section in settings called 'SIM managment' which allows you to select which SIM is used for data, voice call, video call and SMS. Each can be assigned to a SIM separately.

My intention is to run my current LiveConnected SIM (Optus) with an Aldi SIM.

Here's a write up with some screen shots.

GizChina - How to manage your dual-sim Android phone

        • A relief to hear of that being built-in, facilitated.

Controllability over discrete X2SIM functions, make a compelling case to support this generic type of 'super'phone - in my view most key to future bang-per-dollar.

          I may direct YesG(24.80)= 5gb/45d &'Trial SIMs' to Mobile&tab> apps
followed by T or aldi 'Simplicity/180d as for Incoming +fail-safe.

  • too bad it doesn't have dual sim. one of the main reson i'd buy a Chinese phone

  • Does it come with Google play store installed or can it be installed? If not how do you put apps onto the phone?

    • +1

If there is no Google Play store, you can either install an alternative such as Amazon App store and get access to all the apps offered through the Amazon app portal, or you can root the phone and flash the GAPPS zip file yourself to get Play Store installed.

However in all likelihood, this phone should have Play store installed as it doesn't seem to be a phone that was meant to be only sold in China — most vendors nowadays usually make sure their phones are 'internationally ready' to be sold to foreigners.

  • Looks like it doesn't come with Google play store on it;
    http://dynamic.focalprice.com/questionList/MH0587X?keywords=…

    • Interesting, in the 3rd youtube review, there is a playstore installed.

  • I bought a 4.7" HAIPAI I9389 Quad Core MT6589 1.2GHz Android 4.2 Smartphone 3G Mobile Phone (Color:Black) AU$142 with 9% off code from BUYINCOINS.

1GB RAM + 4GB ROM (system space around 2.2GB)- waiting for new SD card to arrive to throw everything on to it

so far I am impressed with it.

S3 clone (somewhat). you can see it is not a S3. the dots next to the speaker are on the other side and the space between the screen and home button is alot larger than the S3. it does use the S3 balloon/water screen. does not fit into a S3 case.

Antutu score was 13943. (just below HTC one X 14022, and LG optimus 4X HD) Samsung Galaxy SIII is 16301

    8mp camera (rear) 5mp camera(front).

smooth scrolling action. very little lag

installed some games on it and they work well.

    comes with google play installed.

this is my first android- just came off iphone 3g which was struggling with out any apps installed.

for the price and the performance so far and specs - I would recommend.

    • Great, thanks for the review. Sounds great.

I just found out at Focalprice, your phone is $137 AUD atm. I may recommend it to other friends who need one.

      http://www.focalprice.com/MH0672W/HaiPai_I9389_47_Capacitive…

      • never mind, the price has gone back to $149.

        • back to $141AUD, now I can get it down to $133.31 AUD after applying coupon code (need to verify your email after registration).

        • very good price. especially considering the specs.

        • ok, I ended up buying this.
          http://www.focalprice.com/MH0508W/Star_S7189_50_Android_421_…

with coupon, i get it down to $149AUD shipped. Let's see how it turns out.

        • looks good.

star brand gets pretty reviews. they make a decent iclone 5.

        • I just got the phone. It's a great phone for the price. Average Camera but it's scrolling and internet connections are very nice.

  • You guys can't be serious that you are comparing phones on nothing but a number of cores and that a mtk quadcore is going to dominate a dual core krait. This phone seem a great deal with a krait cpu and water and dust proofing.

    • True to some extent. Only thing the MTK chip has going for it is that they are easy to root.

    • +1

MTK is also pretty power efficient as well.

      http://www.viddler.com/v/96cde43a?secret=23514849

I played some games on the MTK 6589 and found that the phone barely even heats up.

On a Tegra 3 device (LG Optimus 4x HD) it can get uncomfortably hot and the phone will start throttling CPU performance (decreased frame-rate as a result).

  • Nice little phone for Yes-G nets, and a testament to your research _ thanks.

( Supposing those pricks sever ties with isp1, then I might end up back on Woolworth ~ So will be watching Thursday's verdict.)
