Wish this was for amazon.co.uk but yeah

  • When I click on the link I get the name Alvin Q*** in the name field.
    Anyone else get this?

    Works fine for Australian customers.

  • Works for me, but I have a fake us address attached. Remains to be seen whether it will work when shipping to my australian address.

    • +1

Yes, I used an Australian address - works fine.

The promotional credit may only be applied to physical products shipped from and sold by Amazon.com, and excludes Kindle devices, digital downloads and gift card purchases.

    • Was hoping to save $5 off a Battlefield 4 digital download pre-order, drats.

anybody found and bargains worth buying?

    • +20

But the product you buy is in USD as well

        • +13

Which gives an awful conversion rate… I'm not sure why you think you're profiting from the strong US Dollar.

          try again

          You have no idea mate

        • +1

I thought ozbargainers knew that for USD online purchases you use a 28 degrees mastercard and not a paypal or amazon conversion rate

        • +1

To make the maths simple, I'm going to exaggerate a bit (and leave out the 28 degrees mastercard issue as well)

We had parity before. $1 AUD = $ 1 USD.

          A $100 USD product cost $100 AUD
With a 5% discount, it meant it cost $95 AUD.

Increase it so $1 USD = $1.10 USD

Now a $100 USD product costs $110 AUD
          With a 5% discount it's still $104.5 AUD

Parity was better for the Aussie shopper.

A stronger USD does not help the Aussie shopper who buys from America

    • JeBs does have a point that the OP could have been more explicit that the credit is USD5 if you spend more than USD25 (rather than AUD5 on AUD25).

In the case of some stores where people don't know what currency is used or where there are currency options, this would be a point worth making. But we all know Amazon.com trades in USD.

As for the claim about thanking the stengthening USD - well the least said about that the better.

  • Any bargains? I tried to buy some books but the shipping is the same price as the order!

    • +1

You have to buy a lot of books to get the shipping cheap at amazon.com. It's usually $5 per order + $5 per book from last use (that's in USD).

    • +1

For lighter books with shipping generally TheBookDepository, Kennys.ie, etc have cheaper shipping. But for heavier items such as hardcovers or bulky books like the "kooky bible" (the DSM 5), Amazon is better.

Earlier today before this bargain was listed I purchased a few pairs of Levis jeans and 2 The Mountain shirts, but I had to have them sent to a shipping forwarder (Shipito) since Amazon doesn't ship these items internationally. Levis are cheap at about $40 US, plus there is a 20% discount for first time clothing purchases if you subscribe. I think Levis retail in Australia for $100.

Other items Amazon are good for are wallets, action figures (esp Marvel), toy animals (Schleich, Safair, CollectA), workwear brands of clothing and shoes like Dockers and Carhardt, board games, computer tech, sneakers, and craft supplies, but for a lot of non-book/non-music/non-DVD items you will need someone in the US to receive and forward them.

    • http://www.booko.com.au is a good price aggregator for books, sorting by total cost (purchase price + shipping) across different stores. Then consider any discounts you can get.

  • I wonder if we can apply this to our PS4 preorders.

    • Perhaps, but they are all sold out.

I hate purchasing from Amazon US.. A lot of the things I want to buy always says " We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination".

    • +6

There is an AmazonGlobalEligible option on the left panel for you to tick.

  • anything good i can get for $5.05? I've got something to buy but it's only $19.95..

  • Gamers could get Saints Row 4 for $40 USD.
The Australian edition will be released a month later since they're to do a thorough job in removing every single bit of fun in it.

    • Not now they can't it's back to $49.99 USD

      • Try PC Download. 45-5=$40. Not sure if it actually works with the voucher though.

        • +1

Ahhh you are right is $45. Doesn't work on Saints Row 4 PC Download though it's not a physical product.

  • thanks claimed it

  • This would have been useful BEFORE I ordered off Amazon yesterday… my order was about an hour before this post :(

    • order something else - problem solved :-)

    1. Anyone know if you can combine this with the offer a few weeks ago. (Something like $10 credit if you spent $50.)

    2. Anyone know if the facebook account has to be yours/match your name? (I hate facebook so I have a fake account but it's not in my name.)

  • Is it one per ip address? I have family members at the same address who also have their own amazon accounts.

    • it's probably per credit card.

    • More like one per link between an amazon account and a fb account.

I know for sure it is not per credit card or ip.

Took me a moment to realise that didn't mean in 346 years' time.

  • Do you guys think it is worth paying extra for 8 x AA Eneloop XX- US$35.22 delivered with the US$5 coupon? According to camelcamelcamelit is the lowest price it has been.

    • Depends… You'd have to find out how they cost here first, then how much it costs from USA after postage. Also depends if you're getting other items at the same time and if it reduces/spreads the postage cost.
