Rolled out a new feature this morning on OzBargain.
In the beginning, there were nodes. Nodes can be deals or forum discussion topics (and recently, classified posts). For deals they can be taxonomised with categories and tags. Something pre-defined, vs. something in freestyle.
Then tags start growing in functionalities. We start to have product tags (like Galaxy 5), brand tags (like ASUS), product category/type tags (like Tablet) and others (that are in development). It helps us to organise the deals that were posted. When you visit a deal page, for example a Steam game sale, you can see all the related products listed on the sidebar.
We have now added a new relationship between the users and the product tags. You can now define the status with those products. They can be
- Something that you want
- Something that you currently have
- Something that you once had
It helps you to keep track what you have and want. Definitely help to solve the recurring issues I saw on those Steam deals, where people buy those 75% off + 20% further discount deal only to find the game already exists in their Steam library.
To record the status of the products,
- Hover over the thumbnail image of the product,
- Click on "wish?" link
- Choose the new status, or remove existing status
You can also see the list and search all the brand and product tags here — All Brands & All Products.
To see all the products that you want / have, go to "My Account" -> "lists" -> "products" and hopefully you will be using that page often to move the products from want to have :)
