NETGEAR RN10400-100AJS READYNAS 104, 4-Bay Diskless $275 @ MSY

40

Noticed this on the MSY website. $40 off normal price. Nearest price from Staticice is $303 from Skycomp.

Looks like the deal ends today. I don't have much experience with NAS but for this item, it is ~10% cheaper than the nearest competitor (that I found).

  • Better off getting a HP Microserver.
These are SPARC, you may struggle to find any good apps to run on this.

    • Would you recommend the specials of the N40L that appear on OzB over this one? They seem to be very popular when they are on special.

      • I think the only reason N40L is popular is because it's cheap, and you can pretty much install your own OS (WinServer, FreeNAS), etc. But it lacks on few things as well - like only supports RAID 0, and 1. Also, if you're not techie

If you just want the NAS for centralised storage location, stream medias, etc - the best on on the market by far is Synology.

        • you can run raid 5 and whatever on microservers

its up to the software and would be as reliable as any nas of the same price

    • They are actually ARM and I have everything I need working on them great! (SABnzbd, Sickbeard, Couchpotato ect.)
However HP microservers are definitely more bang for buck and customizable.

  • Damn slow interface on this model. I bought one late last year. The LAN connections would randomly disappear. I had it replaced, thinking that maybe I had a dud. The replacement had the same problem. Both were updated to the latest firmware.

Too slow and unreliable for my liking.

    • Most NAS Units are slow, and there are plenty that are unreliable.

      • Did you try Synology?

        • My processing requirements went way up since I last needed one, so I now have a computer to do everything including NAS functions.

        • microservers are fast

          i do 60mb+/sec given 7,200rpm discs

        • but not enough CPU power or ram for my uses.

    • If you bought one last year, it wouldn't be this one.
This has a newer "OS 6" and has been pretty reliable for me.

  • Just wondering what happened when the unit died; can I just hooked the hdd to any pc to retrieve files? I believe it is using the ARM's chip and not the intel cpu.

    • See "Migrate a Volume" section in "ReadyNAS OS 6 Desktop Storage Systems Hardware Manual".

      • The instruction is to migrate the hdd to another ReadyNas system. What if I don't want to do spent the money for another ReadyNas, can I retrieve the information by hooking it up on a pc running windows or linux systems?

  • Be careful of Netgear reliability (Ie lack of)

  • Pretty sure I saw this same thing in OW today for $99…clearance price.
    might be online

    • That was for the 2 Disk Model
