  • Knowing what Solid Capture is would be helpful.

    • "Solid Capture is a screen capture toolkit that allows you to take snapshots of anything on your computer screen. These snapshots can then be saved as image files, used with an image editor, exported as text, converted to a PDF document, e-mailed to a friend or co-worker, pasted into a presentation, and more."

  • Something you can already do with freely available and open source software.

  • hmmmm - how is this different to ctrl + PrtScn?

    • +1

pretty sure you don't need to hold ctrl, it's just PrtScr. Given the number of screen captures I take I would probably forget I have this installed and end up using PrtScr.

      • dayum…all this time I have been performing the extra keystroke

You just helped me double my efficiency - thanks!

        • +2

You can use Alt+PrtSc to only screen capture the current active window.
Can save a lot of cropping time.

  • not really a good bargain. are you sure the download is clean?

  • I tested myself and was very impressed with feature base.. you can do a hell of alot more than most screen capture tools Ive used.

Only posted because its much better than any screen capture tool Ive used! and its free

What? This is just a screengrab program and you have go that hassle to get it!

To capture screen, I am using MWSnap. It's small, free and lot of features. It's a bit old - no updated since 2002. But who cares if the program does what you wanted and free of any bugs.

Also, no need to jump several hoops to get it. Just download here http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html

    • I agree. No need to jump through hoops when you can get the same type of software for free.

This is a really handy software.

If you are using vista, type snip into the run command.

    tada!

    • Thanks! I noticed the "Snipping Tool" in Windows 7, I didn't it also comes with Vista. Nice!

  • Can SolidCapture scroll down and capture the whole webpage?

  • I use print screen, either way I wouldn't get it, even though it's free. Why they'd charge money for something offered for free in standard OS's mystifies me.

  • Gets my vote. I used Snagit in my last job which was really handy. The license belonged to the company so it stayed when I left. I have been looking for a cheaper or free replacement (Snagit is 50 bucks!).

Where these screen capture programs really score over the OS tools is in collecting screen shots for presentations - you capture just the bit you need and paste it in to PowerPoint. Sure, you could use Print Screen (copies the whole screen) or Alt Print Screen (copies just the active window) but you spend a lot of time cropping these to get rid of all the stuff you dont want.

By the way, zeitgeb3r, SolidCapture does capture the whole of a scolling window - something PrtScr doesnt do.

    • The Scrolling Caption feature doesn't work with Firefox though.

  • another good one that does the job is Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/).
It's freeware and also records video too.

  • This is just what I needed this weekend, especially the different file saving features! Cheers :)
