Dick Smith $20 off First Purchase over $100 Using Mobile App. Buggy and Requires a Call

120
20

Current Dick Smith catalogue advertises a $20 discount on your first purchase of $100 or more using their new mobile app.

The Android version was released on Google Play today:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cds.sniip.dick…

The iOS version is here, credits to Mallyx:
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/dick-smith/id664977836?mt=8

WARNING - both the apps are so buggy as to be just about completely unusable. The Android version only allows 1 item per order and choosing delivery causes it to crash. It also doesn't seem to want to apply the discount code.

So what I did was:
1. Order the items I wanted via mobile app. Separate order for each item.
2. Call them on 1300 366 644 (open till 7pm AEST) to have the orders combined and the discount applied.

Worth noting:
Free delivery on orders over $50 ends tonight.
Discounts from their previous catalogue end tonight.

Eg Logitech G700s currently on sale for $99 is a good price with $20 off:

  • $80 delivered for 32GB PS Vita memory is as good as it gets worldwide. You'll just need to find something really cheap to take it over the $100 mark (2cents)

    • Not sure if I should jump on this deal or wait till Gamescom to see if Sony possibly announce a price cut or larger capacity 64GB card.

      • this. also wasnt it $70 when HN had their 30% off sale

For a second there, I thought the website said "EPIC FAILURE"

  • Good way to get $20 off PS4 or XBOX One preorder?

    • But they are not listed on the app for some reason I cant find them

  • Hm.. Is it too late to call them now? I want to buy something but it's $99 =/

EDIT: Yep, it's too late to call them tonight.

ios app shows (null) when I try to add products, app is "powered by Sniip" substitute the n for a h and the p for a t…

    • Same. I'm also getting a shipping cost error.

  • When I tried to choose delivery as opposed to collect, I got the message "Dick Smith has stopped" and I had to restart the app. I guess I can collect what I want from the nearest store, but I'd rather get the free delivery.

I too found that it's impossible to order more than one item. I ordered a $99 phone with promo code "20" and it appeared to accept my order, saying "Your purchase was successful". Which is odd, because I have not yet provided any credit card details. I separately ordered a small item as well.

I guess I'll call in the morning and find out if any of it went through and whether I get the $20 discount or free delivery.

    • Really? I'm trying the same thing for a $99 phone too haha. I can't get the promo code to work though.

  • it works - just barely. but It is the WORST app I have ever used - it beats all records for being completely useless. However, once you register and add addresa and payment details it is possible to find items through the menu - if you search then add it does not seem to work but when i clickedd through computer - hard drives etc I managed to pick up a Canvio 1.5TB portable for $109 delivered which is a great price in oz.
Gah. Which amateurs built this thing?

  • LOGITECH headphones are half price till tonight.

Dick Smith website is coded by total spastics.
You should have seen their recent clusterfork of the BOGOF deal they ran on headphones. They are beyond retarded.

App is so bad you have to wonder if it is sabotage.
    Unbelievable.

    (By the way thanks OP)

At least your comments are well thought out and constructive…a highly intelligent perspective i'm sure.

      • Always happy to oblige ;)
        Thats spaaaaaastics.
        Utter retardsssssss.

I had to call and email DSE so many times with the last failed "deal" that I lost count. They were consistent in their failure to communicate with each other, with me and get my refund back to me.
Friggin hopeless from a soon-to-be-ex major retailer.

  • http://m.xkcd.com/1174/ comes to mind…

  • I found that I could only put one item in my cart at a time, obviously this needs to be reviewed in the future, but all in all I found it pretty easy to use on android? Happy with my bargains anyway…

    • +1

So did you make them as separate purchases? I need 2 items to total over $100 and I can't do it on the iOS app. Calling Dick Smith was completely useless, as they have no idea about this app and the promotion.. I'll call them again later.

      • +2

I made separate purchases then called them.

      • @BlazinPast same experience here… I don't think anyone over there has any clue

        • Yeah, I don't have time to do it today but I'll definitely try again tomorrow.
My plan is to make the 2 purchases separately on the app and then call up Dick Smith. I'll just have to constantly ring them until someone knows about the deal and can apply the discount.

        • +1

Best of luck mate…. I did call them up a couple of times today… every time they acknowledged the issue but didn't do anything except possibly putting a note on the order…

  • I installed the app on both my Samsung GS2 and my Wife's Iphone4 and the app seems to work without huge issues for me… I agree with the multi-item shopping cart needing some work but at least there is a resolution to fix this (yeah i had to call the number too) but got my order placed successfully. I would give the App a 8/10 as yeah i think it has to get a few things fixed, but I'm yet to find any piece of software that doesn't have some work to go…

    • A branded shopping app limits you to ONE ITEM and crashes with most of it own native functions an 8/10?
      Really??
I give it 1/10 for existing and having $20 off. Losing a solid 9 points for failing at most of its design parameters and associating the store with heavy fail.
      This app is negative publicity.

I am only here because there is $20 off.

  • app is buggy but for $20 off a kindle paperwhite its good enough for me.

I have to say, Dick Smith is definitely #1 in terms of wasting my time and being hopeless in general.

Yet to get a call back as promised to complete the order. Passed by a DS store on the way home and tried to sort it out there, they wouldn't even look at it because supposedly DS online and physical stores are separate. Yeah right.

    • Same. They said that they can't deal with issues regarding the app since it's different =/ They've yet to contact me back which is disappointing
I'm too busy today but tomorrow I'm going to keep harassing them until they give me the discount.
It's a great deal if it works, but seriously, the execution is terrible.

  • Hey guys, just an update. I finally managed to get the discount. I just called up the centre I was going to beforehand and explained the scenario.

Also, the promotion is on the front page of the latest Dick Smith catalogue so you can refer the staff to that catalogue to inform them about the deal. The person I was talking to knew about the catalogue so I guess I was lucky. But if the person who picks up the phone doesn't know about it, tell them to look at the catalogue and he/she will understand.

    • I tried this too. The store then called the online department who apparently had no idea what was going on. As a result the store couldn't honor the $20 mobile app discount. Apparently it's been escalated to the head office, not holding my breath.

The products are in stock at the store. My order is on their system. It shows the amendments I got over the phone. But they just won't honor it.

      • You must just be dealing with a crappy store. Tell them to have a look at their own damn catalogue: http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/
        Front page

        • The store manager was actually very helpful.

He called up their office on the spot and they told him not to give the discount until the order had been fixed up on their end.

As you put it - it's right there on their own damn catalogue but they just wouldn't honor it.

  • I managed to make an order using the app and discount code and my credit card has been charged.

However I received no e-mail confirmation or order number, I can only see the item in my "Purchase History"

Is this the same with everyone else?

  • Called up the head office today after much to and fro and was advised that only a single product over $100 is eligible for the $20 discount.

    • I bet that is because their stupid app cannot process more than one item at a time.

      • +1

It seems they have done it on purpose… after wasting 3 days with DickSmith, I got EB to give the same deal… I guess I should have gone there in the first place.

        • +1

Am sure it is bullshit added after the fact.
There was absolutely no mention of it before it was revealed that their spaz app couldn't do it.
Haven't looked but I bet that requirement is not in the terms and conditions of the promotion (could be wrong but that's my guess)

        • Try contacting a different store? The person dealing with me applied the discount at the store and wrote down the situation on the computer system. It was infinitely easier than calling up their 1300 number.

Although, at this point I would just give up.

        • +1

Yeah well I ordered two items totaling just over $100 for click and collect (two purchases) but the nominated store claimed to have no idea, despite it being on the front of the current catalog. They got me to call the online team who refereed it on to a "specialist" who still has not called back (Tues) so basically they have no clue and as such, suck donkeys bollocks.

  • That's unfortunate. My item was $99 so I was able to convince them..
I guess it's not worth the hassle then

    • well mine is 99.98 which is even worse…

Dick Smith are beyond shit. It's amazing this level of incompetence can exist in anything.

Got an email today saying 1 of my 2 items was ready for pickup. So I called to ask about the second item and the discount. Was told:
    1. No note or amendment of any kind was attached to the order - previous call centre person had lied when he said it was fixed.
    2. The items I ordered are not available - an outright lie as just yesterday in store the manager had set aside the items for when this mess is sorted.
    3. She then offered me a refund when I haven't even paid yet due to the shit app.

So I asked her whether she's fixed or made a note or ANY change to my order as a result of the call. She said "no I can't do that but I'll try my best to help and we'll call you back".

  • I couldn't even log in on Android though the same details work on the website.

Crazy useless app, I called them to place the order on the phone and they refused saying they don't take orders on the phone.
He said somebody will call me back reg the app in a day or two, seemed to be a common problem. The guy asked which app are we having the trouble on , Ipad / iphone? I said android and he said something to the effect of Oh on that too.
