Harris Scarfe has a new catalogue out on Wed, not yet online. For those looking for homewares in particular here are a few savings: Tuffcast cast iron pans $29.95 (up to "85% off"); 50% off all kitchen scales; Stanley Rogers 18/10 SS 'Baguette' 56 piece cutlery set $99.95 ("70% off"- $110 ebay); Russell Hobbs blue metallic toaster $39.95 (65% off, $99 elsewhere), "40-60% off" dinner sets. Some of the items - eg cutlery, cooksets, dinner sets - are regularly discounted elsewhere so it's wise to check and compare but there are still some good savings to be made if you're looking for kitchenware for yourself or as a gift. And, Harris Scarfe is a bricks and mortar company.

I'm waiting patiently for the ACCC to do something about the cookware industry and their ridiculous RRP claims. The problem is they mix it with genuine savings and I don't know who to believe. I was in HS 2 weeks ago and every piece of cookware was "on sale" with crazy savings of "60-80%" yet I could walk into any store at the complex I was in and get the same "crazy saving".
I saw something else (A slow cooker) which was also on sale at a mere 30% off but it was a genuine saving and I couldn't beat that price anywhere, so I bought it.
The lines are blurred and it's damn frustrating. The only retailers that I've seen who don't appear to do it are Big W and K-Mart… but they mostly seem to stock their own imported lines.
True, but believe it or not there are occasionally people who will buy items at full RRP. Kathmandu is another example of what you're talking about imo. I've bought some excellent high-quality kitchen and cookware from H-S recently and they were the best prices available, but as I suggested in the intro, don't be fooled by the % discount do some googling before you shop. Just as a passing comment for GenYers: the prices and quality of homewares in general has never been so good - some of the benefits which China, and competition, have brought to our pockets.
Indeed. You'll find the "crazy 60-80% off" items are mostly HS own lines.. total scam most of the time.
Their catalogues are good for a laugh sometimes.
A quick scan of their catalogues will give the lie to that bit of misinformation.
Yer I'm surprised the ACCC hasn't done something about HS and Katmandu. Both are breaching the Trade Practices Act by having things on permanent sale. Advertised % off can only apply if the item was once "recently" at full price. I can't remember the last time pots and pans were full price at HS. In fact I've been in quite a few times over the past few months and a set of cutlery I baught has been going in between $69 and $79, but always advertised as 85% off or so.
sunbeam food saver (vac sealer) is ok for $159
think I paid about the same for a no name ebay one (which works fine)coffee perculators are cheap too although I don't think they are stainless
Just what I'm after. Thanks for the heads up.
