NO STOCK ! - Buffalo LinkStation Pro Quad - LS-QVL NAS - Officeworks - $99

25

$242 at Harris Technology and $189 at CentreCom.
I have two of these I bought off HT years ago and they are still going strong.
Beware though, they are a bit of a b1tch to set up.
Don't use 'Green' disks in a NAS as they can have issues powering down.
Unless they have changed, limited to four x 2TB drives.

if you search through all the postcodes in australia ie 2000,3000 etc, there is no stock within 500 km of any major urban centre, not a bargain as there's no stock!

    There is no stock anywhere!!!

  • Not bad. 8TB worth of storage capability is still plenty for most people. Then again this is sold out. Looks like the OP didn't check stock status first.

It will take 3TB drives, had one and got rid of it some time back. Not sure about 4TB though.

This biggest problem is the proprietary format, it's not just *nix based, it seems to encrypt everything too. A drive from one of these doesn't just automagically work in another unit - I tried. This means should the unit fail in an unrecoverable way, everything on it is gone. Decided this was too risky and moved to microservers.

    • NAS is never meant to be backup - it's only a centralised storage location. So if you're worry to lose data you should have put a scheduled backup from your NAS into external storage (for example: USB attached hard drive, or even drop box).

Also, in your configuration you might be protected if your unit fail - but truth is there is much higher chance that the drive itself fail - not the unit. In that case, microserver won't protect you.

      Just my 2 cents.
